Description from owner

Description

The Old Chapel, in the tiny village (pop.300) of Wing is an early 19th Century stone built Grade II listed Methodist Chapel sympathetically converted at the turn of the 21st Century to create a unique Modernist open plan house.

Winner of The George Phillips Award and featured in "Living Etc." magazine upon it's conversion in 2000.

Set in the rolling countryside of Rutland at the edge of a beautiful quiet conservation village overlooking the Chater Valley. You will feel immersed in nature as soon as you arrive. It's great for nature lovers, walkers and cyclists. You can reach Rutland Water on foot in one hour (car 5-20 mins depending upon which shore you seek). Red Kites, and many other varieties of birds fly overhead daily. On a quiet weekday you're as likely to see a horse outside as a car, but you still have the security of being in a village with people around. It's a very safe friendly village, off the beaten track, but everything Rutland and Stamford have to offer are within easy travelling distance.

!!NOT SUITABLE!! for children between mobile babies and age 8 for safety reasons. Babes in Arms and children age 8 plus welcome.

It is a (still) relatively undiscovered gem, a unique and delightful place to base yourself when visiting England's smallest county.

Discover Oakham have said about The Chapel: 'Had an amazing weekend stay in this beautiful property in Wing. Will definitely return and recommend'.

This property is open plan design – the only internal walls being around the Bathroom!

Check-in any day of the week. Check in is at 3.00pm, but may be available earlier on the day so if you're already in the area we'll let you know if it's ready early. Check out is by 10.00, but we can often offer a later checkout.

This property is ENTIRELY OPEN PLAN in design – the only internal walls being around the Bathroom!

Parking on unrestricted Village Road immediately outside. It has never been a problem in six years, but if it is, the owners are happy to make space available for one car on their driveway nextdoor.

Award winning Architect designed conversion of a Methodist Chapel, which was a place of worship for 150 years until being converted to a home in 2000 when it featured in 'LIVING ETC. MAGAZINE'.

It has been available to rent as a holiday home since late 2015.

The sympathetic modern conversion retains the original features such as the double height ceiling and arched windows meaning the space is very light and airy, perfect for a relaxing break.

At Ground Floor the Living / Kitchen / Dining Areas. An ‘L’ shaped sofa provides ample space for you to relax with freeview smart TV & blu-ray player to keep you entertained and a wood burning stove to add to the heat and the ambience of your stay. The main heating is provided by eco radiators. There is also a ceiling fan for hotter days.

The Kitchen area has a 4 plate electric hob together with both fan and conventional ovens, a large fridge/freezer, plenty of utensils, cutlery, saucepans, frying pan, and oven dishes. Not to mention the kettle, 4 slice toaster, microwave oven and cafetiere. There is a dishwasher below the sink and hidden away under the stairs is a washing machine.

The Dining Area has a table and chairs to seat four comfortably.

There is ample crockery, cutlery and glassware. A full inventory is emailed prior to your arrival so you are aware of what to expect from the kitchen contents. This is only to ensure that you do not duplicate any items by bringing them from home uneccessarily to hopefully help to reduce your luggage.

At the Mezzanine level there are two Bedroom areas and a Bathroom. The two Bed areas have glass balustrade viewing to the Living Area below.

The Master Bedroom area has a king size bed and side boards with shelving below and reading lamps above. This area is provided with a DAB radio alarm clock and a waste bin.

The Second Bedroom area has a small (4ft wide) double bed with bed side table, shelf and bed side lamp and waste bin.

The Bathroom appears modest from the outside, but is comfortably equipped with an electric towel rail, washbasin, WC and bath with shower facilities over. It is small, probably more the size of an en suite bathroom. The facilities are full size.

Linking these three areas is a landing with a substantial amount of wardrobe and storage space including an airing cupboard with it's own hanging rail, wardrobe hanging rails, hangers, shelving and a shoe rack.

There is a hair dryer, an iron, ironing board and folding clothes horse for your use should you require them.

Getting around

It's preferable to have a car as Wing is a small village with only a limited bus service. Many local Taxi firms available. It's possible to walk to Rutland Water, if you are fairly fit, but it is a climb to return as Wing is on a hill overlooking The Chater Valley. By car it's about 5 mins to the nearest point on Rutland Water or 20 mins or so to the opposite shore. Nearby Shaws Coaches run outings all over the UK. Trains run from Oakham, 10 mins away by road, or Kettering, which is about half an hour by road.

Interaction with guest

Interaction is at your discretion. The Security Key safe means you can arrive at your own convenience. There is no need to collect keys from another location or to meet us the owners. We are next door in a completely separate house which means any problems can be dealt with swiftly with minimum disruption to your holiday. We are always happy to meet guests and to help with anything we can. However if you are seeking seclusion this is not a problem. A number is also provided for emergencies, day or night. We are very happy to be on hand to assist you and are equally happy to respect your privacy during your stay if that is your preference. Usually Samantha pops round once to check everything is ok after your arrival.
