Additional Location Information
The panorama it's absolutely amazing, all the photos you can see have been taken from our properties, particularly from the wonderful panoramic terraces!
It’s common to see close to our villas professional and amateur photographers taking panoramic pictures of Barga and of the whole Serchio valley.
We think that there's not better way to describe our property than to display on our official web site the major number of photos ( WWW.TUSCANYHEAVEN.COM )
This is a choice of complete transparency, to demonstrate that our villas don't need of any lessical decoration to emphasize their incredible beauty.
The place where the villas are located is well know as the most prestigious in Barga, this thanks to the amazing view, the tranquillity and the southern disposition of the sunny hill of Albiano, all this without staying in a remote place (approximately 2miles from the medieval historical centre of Barga, reachable by foot too by a beautiful just renewed ancient mule track).
The hamlet of Albiano, less than 5 minutes' walk from the house, boasts a shop for everyday necessities, the typical Tuscan Restaurant /La Terrazza/,and a cafe'.
I'm keen to underline that the Italian Touring Club has recently assigned to Barga the "orange flag" of the "Migliori borghi d'Italia" ("ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VILLAGE IN ITALY"), a distinguished sign recognizing the peculiarity of its beauty and of its quality.

Michigan, USAFabulous location for exploring Tuscany
Left on 05/06/2013 for a stay in April 2013
I'll break this review down to three parts. Hopefully, that helps.
First, the villa itself. It's an immaculately maintained facility with a magnificient view of Barga and the surrounding river valley from the awning-covered patio and side windows. According to the owners, it was recently rehabbed and it shows. All the fixtures and appliances are new, and of top quality. The decor is vintage Italian which presents a nice contrast to all the new. The queen bed we used was quite comfortable. Off-street parking is convenient.
Second, the area. Barga is a Medieval town with a lively (though not crowded by any means) tourist trade, lots of very good and very fairly priced restaurants (Chicago, Illinois, USa, is our benchmark here), a modern supermarket, modern drygood store and plenty of other specialty shops. From Barga you can easily access Firenze (Florence), Pisa, Siena, Cinque Terre, La Spezia, and really unique pre-Roman Empire mountain towns like Volterra (near Siena). All within a 3 hour drive, max.
And finally, the hosts. Diego and his father/partner, Angelo, will make your stay a perfect one. The first day, in fact, Diego had to drive 20 minutes outside of town (on a Sun afternoon, mind you) to fetch us and escort us to the villa after our GPS got lost and simply sat down on the job. Throughout the week, the two co-owners (and the other son, Antonio) assisted with tourist informtion and other unanticipated odds and ends. They are friendly folks with a genuine customer-first mid-set.
In short, you can't go wrong here if you're heading to Tuscany and want your stay to be a perfect one. -

We had a weekend at il Trebbio and enjoyed the experience enormously - while it is a little outside Barga, the views from the villa made it worthwhile. A very comfortable house with magnificent views of the Tuscan valley near Barga.
The hosts were very gracious and had some local home made goodies to welcome us.
Great for families or group of friends, but we found the verandah and stairs to the garden a little nerve wrecking with 4 year olds.
There is a great local pool 10 min from the house that is worth a splash in summer. -

What a difference a week makes - from glorious Tuscan warmth and sunshine to the wettest summer in the UK for 100 years! Il Trebbio is a wonderful location to enjoy rural Tuscany. The terrace of the house provides a wonderful vista across towards the town of Barga itself, the view of which constantly changes with the time of day from the first light of morning to the final rays of the setting sun.
The house is beautifully presented, clean and comfortable and we were made to feel most welcome. Barga itself (apparently the most Scottish town in Italy) is about 10 minutes by car and there is a small but well stocked supermarket (open Sunday mornings) in the lower town. The old town up on the hill is well worth exploring, starting with the Duomo and then meandering down through the streets as they tumble down the hillside and plenty of places to eat.
Further afield, Lucca is about 25 miles and well worth exploring with Sienna about 2 hours drive and Florence about 1 1/2 hours by train from Lucca.
For a relaxing break in rural Tuscany, Il Trebbio comes very highly recommended. -

Villa was fantastic and the views were nothing short of incredible,
Home was well equipped and more than happy with amenities and layout of the house,
The front veranda was a pleasure to sunbath and have breakfast, lunch, evening meal looking over the valley (Breathtaking to say the least!)

Left on 08/13/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Our family stayed at Il Trivium, which was a villa set high on the hill above albiano, with a wonderful panorama from the balcony across the valley and towards Barga and the apuane alps. The villa was lovely, decorated in traditional Tuscan decor. The 2 bedrooms were a good size (and I believe a third bedroom is available if required) and we had everything we needed for our stay.
Due to the proximity of Barga, Lucca, the coast etc. the villa was in an ideal situation for either complete relaxation or for exploring the Tuscan countryside.
Diego, the owner, and his brother were very helpful in advising us of things to do in the area and they ensured our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. Both Diego and antonio spoke very good English, thankfully, as our Italian was not great!!
We would certainly return to the villa in the future. -

Left on 08/05/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We stayed for a week at Il Trebbio in Summer 2012 and loved every minute of it. The views are amazing with the sound of church bells from the walled town of Barga drifting up the mountains and the smell of lavender in the garden. A perfect patio with shade to enjoy meals outside and the house was cool and spacious with all basic amenities. The owners were friendly and helpful. There was plenty to do in the local area although it would be tricky without a car, not a drive for those who do not like sharp corners and twists and turns! Only 10 mins to the local train station with connections via Lucca to Florence, Pisa, Rome and the coast. If returning to Italy we would be quite happy to stay here again.

This is a great home with spectacular views. The owners were very accomodating and friendly. They checked in with us to make sure our stay was good. The house is extremely clean, maintained impeccably, and has all the neccessities for cooking, bedding, TV, wi-fi, etc. The nearby town of Barga is very nice with lots to offer for eating, gelato, drinks, and cute shops. The nearby pool with a small entry fee was accomodating and fun for our children.
This house is ideal for outdoors people, or destination travelers that have already seen the touristy places of Italy. Hiking, biking, etc. is everywhere around property and area. The train station is close for travelers who may want to see different cities, about a 20 min drive. Most big cities like Florence, Bologna, Venice, Milan, Central Tuscany, etc. are 3-4 hours away, but easier with the train. Lucca, a very quaint and wonderful Tuscan city is 45 min away, and has a lot to offer. It has meaningful history with lots to do for children and adults.
The only issues for us would be that it is pretty far away from many of the big cities. The road leading up to the property (about the last 10-15 min) is windy and narrow, and best used during the day. This is why we put "average" for location for our family. But, the views in all directions were breath taking. The house and ammenities were wonderful, but the living area really didnt have any couches for the whole family to sit on. We sat on the patio a lot to make up for that. The bedrooms were spacious and very comfortable, and the bathrooms had everything we needed and a wonderful hot shower! -

We traveled to Barga in March and our experience couldn't have been better. Diego and his family were so wonderful and beyond friendly and helpful. The home we styed in was a true Tuscan experience. The town Barga was really cute and had a train station right there, which was great for day trips. If you are looking to stay in a beautiful home owned by wonderful people and have a Tuscan time, this is the place for you:) *We also had two children 4 and 2 and the house was perfect for them!

Six of us stayed for a week at Il Trivium, the sister property of Il Trebbio. The house is located in the hils a few miles outside of Barga. It is a beautiful setting; very peaceful and tranquil. The views from the property are absolutely gorgeous; especially the view of Barga in the distance.
The owner, Diego and his family are very gracious hosts. They are friendly, nice people, who made us feel comfortable and at home. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have stayed the week at Il Trivium! Plenty of hiking to be done in the area. This is a gem of a place! We're already talking about retruning to Barga, and we will most definitely want to stay at Il Trivium. It is splendid, and truly Tuscany Heaven! -

We stayed in the Villa Trivium for 2 weeks in august 2010. We had a wonderful time. The villa is situated in a wonderful location on the hillside overlooking Barga. Fantastic views. You really need a car to get around during the day and in the evening but it is only a 5 min drive into town which has plenty to explore and great places to eat. The whole experience from booking through to departure was painless and well managed. The owners were extremely helpful throughout and made us feel very welcome. We also booked the study room attached to the rear of the Villa which provided an excellent private room for friends. The Villa is well appointed, spacious,clean with a large terrace. It didn't take long before we felt really at home. There are a number of supermarkets nearby (by car) and the motorway network is not far. All in all an excellent holiday and sad to leave!

Our friendly hosts met us in Barga in order to show us the way to Il Trebbio
The family were at the house and made us feel very welcome, showed us the amenities and then left us to explore, ensuring we had contact numbers should we require anything.
Toaster did not work and a new one was provided very promptly.
The views are breathtaking, excellent restaurant in the village within walking distance but the stepped garden and comfortable terrace was made good use of, there was even a pizza oven on the spacious terrace.
Barga is a beautiful town and of course there are many walled towns and villages to visit within easy driving distance. The Garfagnana is the place to relax and unwind and enjoy good food and welcoming people.
During our stay the family ensured we had everything we required but also, ensured our privacy.
We will definitely return.

Il Trebio is a beautiful house on the hills overlooking Barga, when I first saw the views from the balcony it took my breath away it is one of the most stunning views I have ever experienced, the house is well planned with a beautiful garden kept lovely by the owner. A car is essential but you can walk into Barga if you wish. I stayed at Il Trebio twice and enjoyed both times it is a lovely place to relax and I would have no hesitation in recommending this lovely holiday home.

Our family (my wife, daughter, my son together with his girlfriend) spent 2 weeks at Trebbio II in august 2009.
The house was very spacious, clean, comfortable and well appointed. The view from the balcony over the old medieval town of Barga was just breathtaking. You could even notice the changing colours of the roofs of Barga in the different day light. For those who just want to relax, they'll find the tranquility they need, and if you don't want to be much shut off from the "worldâ€, you have your TV, your internet access (!), and restaurants in walking distances.
The garden in front and behind the location is another highlight! Seeing and smelling the plants and herbs was a special treat for us, not to mention the splendid view from the heightened position of the garden to Barga in the night, which especially our son and his girlfriend enjoyed very much.
The location was an ideal base to visit lots of beautiful sights such as such as Lucca, Florence, just to mention a few.
Diego and his family proved to be very friendly, generous and helpful people who popped in whenever we needed them, enjoying a chat with them, and who provided us with vegetables from their garden.
All in all, we can recommend this location very much.

We, had driven from Pizza airport in two cars,and having arived in Barga and phoned the given number,were met by a friendly host and shown the way to the villa, outside the town. When we arrived, we were shown round a spacious home high up on a hill with amazing views of Barga and the valley. Outside there were barbcue facilities, a patio big enough for the six of us, a covered veranda and a garden, where we were told to help ourselves to the herbs.
Inside the rooms were spacious. The owners were warm and welcoming, and even though only Diego spoke fluent English, we managed to communicate well.
There is plenty to do in the area, with beautuful walks in the hills, the winding streets of Barga to explore and a local restuarant and shop within walking distance. If you want to explore farther, it is easy to drive to Luca or hop on the local train to Florence. Our group consisted of my husband and me, our two adult childern and their partners. We all had a lovely time and hope to return one day. -

Ill Trebbio 2 is in an excellent location and has wonderful view over the old town of Barga. The owners were extremely helpful and gave us plenty of ideas for sight seeing etc. The house was very clean and well appointed and had ample on site car parking.
The only negative was the second bathroom which was below the living accommodation and only accessible from outside of the house. This bathroom became the mens room while the main bathroom was taken over by the women (suprise, suprise) However, this did not prevent us having a great holiday -

We spent a week at Il Trebbio during the Easter of 2007 and it was perfectly beautiful. Diego and his parents were very kind and generous hosts, the property was clean and well appointed, and the views were outstanding. Our children (then aged 11 and 15) enjoyed spending time in the garden, and we all took regular walks in to Barga and to nearby albiano. Il Trebbio is easy travelling distance to Pisa, with Florence, Siena and the Cinque Terre available for longer day trips. I'll never forget sitting on the balcony on a sunny Easter Sunday morning listening to the bells ringing across the valley. We had a memorable stay in Tuscany and look forward to visiting again one day.

we were a family of six plus girlfriend with chidren aged 8 11 13 and 17 +17plus my parents. in their 70s .We were accomodated as an extra room was kindly given from the next door residence. Sittting out on the balcony taking in the beautiful scenery and tranquility and sharing pasta and wine prepared in the well equipped kitchen was the unexpected icing on the cake as late october is a little cooler generally.. To appreciate the area you really need .a car to get out into the Marble mountains or to the Windy Caves on either a wet or very hot day and also Castelnuovo with its wonderful Gelateria, about 1/3 the price of those in Florence.The situation of the villa with its views of Barga are those seen on the website but also the views across the Serchio valley to the mountains are fantastic.It is rural so if you like being in the middle of it all then you may be diappointed. The owners were very welcoming and attentive and my parents managed the steps both to our villa and their bedroom ..This is a great place to get away from it all ..The people are very friendly in Barga eg.when trying to get some medication from a late pharmacy which I couldnt find,one of the local bar owners who was shutting up shop left his son with my wife and childrenin his shop whilst he actually drove me to the chemist..The Strina family popped in at an opportune time when my firemaking skills had led to a rather smokey effort.The rooms were comfortable and the views from the windows and bacony were great. Lovely well appointed house in a lovely part of the world

We spent two weeks here with our 2 children then 13 and 17. We found the Strina family to be very welcoming and helpful. This is a lovely property, we ate in the restaurant in the village and used the village pool and shop. The garden has lovely views over the village of Barga, slightly blocken on the terrace by what we jokingly reffered to as Diegos trees (he was very protective of them but his family said they should be moved - much gentle teasing. We found the location good and did lots of sightseeing, and an occasional visit to the beach. We also had relaxing days sitting on the terrace or lying in the hammock reading. Would recommend this to others as a comfortable, homely property where you will be made welcome, given all the information you need and then left alone unless you need anything. We also walked up to the ruined monastery in the hills behind the house. Lovely quaint village but its a bit of a trek.

We had a most pleasant relaxing holiday at Il Trebbio, a well-equipped, comfortable and pretty house up a steep hill outside Barga. The owner and his family spoke some English; they were hospitable and helpful and we spent happy hours sitting on the terrace in hot sun sampling the wine from their own vineyard. One shop and a small swimming pool were within walking distance, but otherwise we took the car on visits to historic Barga, lovely Lucca, and Il Ciocco, an astonishing sports complex/spa/hotel where the Italian football squad apparently go on training retreats. There is plenty to do and see in the locality, which will be best enjoyed by those with good legs and sensible shoes!

Received a very warm welcome from Diego and his family who were always available with advice if required. Large spacious house but we would have liked some comfortable chairs in the house to relax in the evenings. Breathtaking views from the house but be prepared for the twisting roads, driving is a challenge! Good shopping down in Barga and lovely restaurant within walking distance. We particularly enjoyed the friendliness of local residents but as I mentioned earlier the driving is challenging on the narrower roads.

Diego and his partner gave us a warm welcome and the villa lived up to our expectations. Great sized rooms, clean, well equipped and the view really is spectacular. Very convenient for Barga and the surrounding villages. A car really is a must though. We were looking for somewhere reasonably quiet but not far from civilisation and I must say it was perfect in that regard.
Diego and his father popped in a couple of times to chat and make sure all was well. They were really nice and friendly.
The surrounding area is beautiful and some nice walks in the surrounding hills, and there are fabulous mountains nearby. Short drive to numerous restaurants or supermarket.
We will definitley consider going again and thouroughly recommend the villa and the surrounding area for a very relaxing break.

We wanted:
- clean, comfortable accomodation;
- to be within 5 minutes drive from town;
- a small-town environment;
- quiet, relaxed surroundings; and
- friendly, helpful but unobtrusive landlords.
We found all this at Il Trebbio plus:
- fantastic views looking down the valley to Barga and up to the mountains;
- an ideal mix of warm sunlight during the day and a snuggly open fire in the evening.
It was the perfect base from which we were able to make day and half-day trips around the beautiful Tuscan countryside.
We have booked to return !
