Swepsonville, NCWe had a great time, but
Left on 07/21/2011 for a stay in July 2011
Well where do I began. When we arrived we had to move the trash cans to park and unload, we noticed they were full and the tops were not shut. There were bloody bed covers, pillows and blankets in the trash. Thats something you dont want to see, what went on here the week before? We love to flounder gig and dig for clams, well there is no way to get to sound there is about a 8 ft wall. We went to Lowes and bought 2 x 4's and a saw we made our own ladder. The living room smelt very bad like dog pee, they might want to rethink letting people bring pets. A lady came a couple hours after we got there, i guess they were still changing the bed covers she noticed the smell also. She said they would come back tomorrow and bring something that would get rid of the smell, well they never came back. We went to WalMart and got it ourselves. The bathroom was not clean they said they would come clean it an never did. Ok, lets move to the kitchen there were very little pots but tons of pot leds. No spoons i think we had 3. It's a good thing i brought my own pots. Tuesday we noticed the aC was not working properly, Wednesday it got really hot. We call the realty company on Wednesday they sent two guy out to look at aC and they said they were unable to fix it. Buy the way they were prompt and very nice. They called the realty company before they left the house and told them the problem. About 10 mins later the realty company call me and said they could have us some window units and fans there in about 1 hr and they did. That guy was nice also. Friday the aC guys showed up to replace the unit it took them about 2 hrs and they were gone. We had family from Kentucky staying in the East side aleast we were all together and had a great time. I think next time we will try another realty company. This house is layed out perfect and has so much potential. The location is nice, a pier would help too.

Thank you for your review of your stay at the Fincannon duplex. I'm glad you did enjoy some family time despite the inconveniences brought on by the maintenance and housekeeping issues you experienced.
I'm happy to let you know that the owner of this duplex is doing major renovations during our off season to prepare this rental for the 2012 season. Our guests will arrive to see an improved exterior and find a revitalized interior. I hope you and your family will revisit the Fincannon duplex since the layout worked so well for you. Located in a narrow section of the island, close to Indian Beach, this Fincannon 5 West provided easy access to both the sound and the ocean. Coupled with the fact that it is one of the less expensive properties, this made it ideal for our purposes and for our short weekend visit. The rental was adequate in other ways. Kitchen and living room facilities were fine for our needs. One bedroom was the nicest and had its own bathroom; the other bathroom was shared by the other two bedrooms and badly needed updating. Like most of the house, it felt old and worn. We brought our own linens, and the laundry was OK, but this property might be better marketed with linen facilities provided. The bed covers that were there were stained and needed bleaching.

Thank you for your review. The Fincannon 5 duplex does provide easy access to both the Sound and the Ocean. This property is very budget friendly and I'm glad to know that it served you well. We hope that you found the newer bed coverings that we brought you to be in better condition than the ones that were there upon your arrival. We have since ordered brand new bedcoverings and they are currently on the beds. Thank you for your feedback. I have passed on your suggestions for updates to the owner as well as providing linens. I hope you'll choose Emerald Isle Realty when planning your next vacation.

Beds comfortable, sitting area nice, washer and dryer work, adequate hot water. My only complaint would be the quality of the pots and pans. If you plan on cooking, the teflon pans are all ruined as the coating is severly damagedand the otherpots are too lightweigh to do any serious cooking. Bring your own skillet.

Chapel Hill, NCNice house but getting to the water not easy.
Left on 08/19/2009 for a stay in August 2009
We were supprised that there was no access to the water since it was on the sound side. There was a 7 foot drop to the water. Nothing was mentioned about that in the writeup. It only said this was a great place to wind surf. The information on the website said that there was washer and dryer. We found the washer and dryer on the west side but was not advised that the washer/dryer for the east side was under the house in the locked room. We discovered that until the last part of the week. We just thought it was storage for the home owner and maybe hot water heaters. Cooking and eating supplies for the west side was great but the east side lacked a lot.

Doswell, VirginisNeeds some updating
Left on 07/14/2009 for a stay in June 2009
The home has alot of potential. The beds were pretty comfortable. The porch facing the water was nice and had some great views. The kitchen needs some more utensils, pots and pans, storage containers and a dishwasher would be nice. The master bedroom w/the bathroom attached was okay, but the bathroom was very small and hard to get around in, needs updating. The furniture in the bedrooms seems to have been updated lately and was nice. The great room was nice, but had some smell of animals in the furniture. Overall, if the paneled walls throughout would be painted, it would help the look become much more beachy and not so dark.

We all enjoyed our stay-it only ended too soon. Very few concerns was heard by anyone. The backyard could have been mowed. Also, the storm doors on each unit need those hydralic brakes replaced as children and even adults would forget and the doors would slam, shaking both units, very loudly. One key didn't fit any door. Our neighbors were great, the weather was very much beach weather. We didn't find a clam bed so that our little granddaughter could learn how to do that but that is a great reason to return. I would make everyone a great recommendation for your rental and do it again as soon as possible.

Left on 02/03/2009 for a stay in September 2007
This was a comfortable vacation home. It has a well stocked kitchen that allowed us to cook our meals for the family.
The glass enclosed porch on the sound side was very enjoyable and is a nice place to sit and read or visit with friends and family.
It was close to a ocean access site and this provided us easy access to the beach.
