We had a wonderful time at Emerald Isle. We had stayed at Front Row twice before and we loved it again this trip. The house is lovely - we especially liked the wonderful view from inside the cottage looking out - just beautiful! One nice thing was the stairs to the beach only required a very few steps. In the evenings we enjoyed watching the big screen tv. We hope to be back again soon!

I loved being so close to the Ocean. Some houses are ocean front but you still have to walk a distance to get

We reported the day after we arrived the TV in the family room wasn't working properly, the next day maintenance came out and stated the TV was broken and they needed to contact owners to get new TV. That was Monday, when we left on Saturday we still heard nothing. We had 4 teenagers, and a lot of clouds and some rain which was bad enough, but having to watch a tv with shadows and fuzzy screens was not fun.
On that same Monday we told maintenance about a loose board on the way to the beach. I called an additional 2 times asking for it to get fixed. I even stated that it is to late for me but if someone comes in with a little kids they are going to get hurt. As of when we checked out on Saturady nothing was done.
The outside of the fridge is rusty, the pots and pans were insufficient and the second sink facing the family room leaked. The washing machine was very loud so I am not sure if there is something wrong with it or if there was a problem.
You have to wear shoes on the deck because of splinters and the deck furniture has seen better days.Response from Emerald Isle Realty, Inc - 07/09/2012

I am sorry to hear of the maintenance issues you experienced during your stay and assure you that your requests for maintenance weren't ignored. We did have to wait for approval from the homeowner to replace the TV, but this has been done. Also, the loose boards have been taken care of since your stay and I'm sorry this wasn't remedied in a more timely fashion.

We spent a great deal of time looking for a house that fit our needs, the good things about the house is: the easy access to the beach, just steps away, and the fact that we could bring our dog. It also had a very nice back deck.
We had quite a few issues with the house. The realty company did its best to address many of the issues, but it comes down to a house that needs a great deal of work and upgrades. Upon our arrival we found:
No screens in windows, so the bugs were very where. When the screens were put in by the Realty Company we found the windows very hard if not impossible to open. All the comforters on the beds dirty and worn. There were no blankets for the beds.
Carpets in the bedrooms dirty/worn. Dishes were left in the cabinets dirty/crusty. We ran them through the dishwasher several times in an attempt to have clean dishes. It did not do much good as the dishwasher itself is old. There is trash, broken glass, construction materials around and under the house. Wooden rocking chairs on the back deck had nails sticking out, several seemed unstable. Mold on the shower curtains, and walls of the bathroom.

This was our third summer vacation on Emerald Isle and I'm not sure I'd recommend this particular rental. It was in good shape for the most part and a couple of the issues mentioned in earlier reviews had been remedied - the deck furniture was nice and new, and there is a gas grill on the porch facing the street. But there were a few remaining issues that I haven't seen at other rentals. 1. There is still no working/usable outside shower - the one on the deck is rusted and water comes only from a hose with weak pressure. There is a shower located unpleasantly under the deck but it was full of a pile of spare shingles, so it was not usable. 2. The doors tend to fly open all the time. Unless locked, it's extremely difficult to get them to stay closed - you have to jiggle the handle and peer into the crack to see if the little doohickey has breached the gap to the doorjam. It's crazy. This is especially an issue if, like us, you have toddlers and can't just leave the doors hanging open all the time. The doors are also very hard to lock (you have to turn the handle all the way up to lock the door), and the back door can't be locked from the outside, so if you are out on the beach and others are inside, they have to either lock you out or risk the door flying open and the toddlers running outside. This was a constant annoyance. I can't even tell you how many times we shut that d-mn door when it flew open! 3. We found several rusty nails rolling around loose on the deck. (What's up with that?)
As a note, there is really only parking for three cars, max, in the driveway. This wasn't an issue for us but it may be one for others.
Overall it was still a good vacation, but because of all these things combined - especially the door situation - we probably wouldn't choose this particular house again.Response from Emerald Isle Realty, Inc - 07/31/2011

Wow!!! The location could not have been better. A completely postive experience for our first ever vacation home rental. Usually did a hotel, never again. This stay was so much more and better than I ever imagined. We were literally right on the beach. Limited steps. Coffee on the porch in the morning, watching the sunrise! Very family friendly experience. Everything was exactly as promised by the company, the made the whole experience worry free. Seldom does a company make a promise and deliver on it fully.

Despite having some maintenance issues (wireless, water leak from freezer, and nail-head injury on deck), we had a great time. These issues were dealt with incredibly promptly and did not negatively impact our trip. We will definitely be back!

We traveled with our three girls, ages 14,13, and 6, and our Springer Spaniel. I don't know who had more fun, us or the dog! The house was well equipped and comfortable for our family, but I can't imagine a larger group in this house. There is a shared bath for each pair of bedrooms, so there is no "master bedroom." Being able to walk off the deck and onto the beach, amazing! We were comfortable allowing the two older girls to walk the beach on their own as the view from the deck allowed us to scan a huge distance up and down the beach. Since the beach is not crowded at all, it was easy to keep a watchful eye on them. Taking the little one down to the water was as easy as walking out the back door. A perfect, relaxing, stress free family vacation!

I'm from E. NC, and have spent much time on the Crystal Coast - thus, I'm familiar with quality of typical beach vacation rentals. Check-in was convenient and fast, and the welcome packet was nice. At check-out, however, we were greeted immediately at the kiosk by a pre-adolescent boy, who took our keys and asked about the property and our stay. When we had a couple of deficiencies to note, he referred us to another, slightly older girl who pretended to be interested in our comments. (writing nothing down on the pad of paper she pretended to use). THAT IS UNPROFESSIONAL.
The beachfront location was great, however either the owner/EI Realty should invest some time and $$ into rehabing some of its features. As such, the property was over-priced for its quality, especially given the # of vacant properties along the island that we noticed. For example:
1. the "charcoal grill", one of our priority features, is actually a permanently affixed, completely rusted recreation park grill - UNCLEAN, UNSAFE, and UNUSEABLE.
2. the wooden deck furniture is falling apart and needs repair - my family visited and we had to warn them about using the broken rocking chairs and foot stools.
3. the outside beach shower is so corroded that it barely functions, and was completely inadequate and disappointing. the basement shower didn't work at all.
4. the laminant flooring in the living room has popped up so high that you stumble on it (and our otherwise confident dog was petrified of walking across it) - CHEAP flooring but easy to repair.
5. some of the mattress pads are missing, and the fitted linens did NOT fit the beds, which makes for a great night's sleep.
All of the issues could be remedied with some TLC and a little $$ investment by the owner.
We love the area, and will be back, however we will likely be a little more aggressive in shopping for alternatives. Thanks. Tom DavisResponse from Emerald Isle Realty, Inc - 07/31/2011

The house was very accommodating and we enjoyed our overall stay. We would stay there again.The view was great, once we cleaned the windows so we could see out of them. However, the place was dirty and the floors filthy. We didn't enjoy starting our visit, cleaning. A Stanley Steamer service rep came by and wanted to know when we would be vacating, so he could clean the floors. So, at least the next occupant had the place clean. Check-in was unsatisfactory. We had an early check-in scheduled, only to arrive and find out that we couldn't get in for hours. Someone should have called us, so we could have planned our day differently. Especially since we had our dog with us. So, our stay didn't start off at best, but it ended well.

This home was a pleasant surprise. In the past, I've rented homes that accept dogs and the accomodations were less than comfortable. Front Row offered us a very nice, well-appointed home while still being able to have our dog with us. Love the large screen TV and the wireless internet connection. The furniture was all very comfortable and the kitchen was sufficiently stocked with cookware, utensils, dishes, etc. The owners of Front Row obviously take great interest and pride in their beach home and it shows. Having the linen service is a great touch and much appreciated. All in all, I have to say our stay was very enjoyable and we'd definitely look at renting this house again, as well as recommending it to our other dog-loving friends.

My family and I enjoyed our stay at the beach. The house was okay. We loved that it was right on the water, but it lacked adequate parking. The linen service was good. Services that were advertised need to be made more user friendly. Such as wireless internet, it is secured and there were no apparent directions available to allow access. Outside hot/cold shower was one of my requirements to help keep down the amount of sand brought into the house, however, this was not working. A call was placed to correct this matter, however nothing was done. The outside light on the street side of the house did not work, therefore stairs were not illuminated after dark. Also, there were only three TVs/DVDs in the hosue. This was not a problem for us, but five were advertised. We had a great family time together, that is what the vacation was all about. I feel that the cost of this property was a little high for what we actually got. I will be a little more selective in my choice next year.

This is the third year we have booked a home with Emerald Isle Reealty we have been very pleased with the homes in the past this year was however different, we rely heavily on the descriptions you provide to determine our decision We have 2 teenagers that come along and one of the key things we look for are TV's this home states 5 tv's in the description in reality there were only 3 when we made a call to your office you sent someone out with 2 more tv's when he arrived he checked the rooms and said there are no cable hook ups so there were never 5 tv's in this home. The second thing was that it states enclosed hot and cold outside showers, when we tried to use this there was no water turned on, another call to your office and a visit from someone determined that the plumbing runs into the storage room for the owner and you don't have the key but would make contact with them to acquire it, we never heard back from you regarding this. There were several calls made to your office that we had to leave messages and never recieved a return call. I finally called the new reservation number where someone answered. I don't mind leaving messages if someone calls back. I am not a chronic complainer but I don't think this home was worth the money compared to our previous rentals.

My family and I loved it. It was the perfect vacation for the family. It was the first time I stayed on the beach and we truely felt special. The house was very clean and everything we needed was there. Emerald Island Reality was the best!! Quick service and professional. Agents on the phone were professional annd helpful. I have reccommended it to all my friends and we will for sure rent again.

This was our first time renting a beach home and we couldn't have
enjoyed it more. The house was large enough for us to take along
both grandmas for a much deserved vacation.
We loved how close we were to the beach. Our boys loved the
freedom to go the beach by walking out the back door and the
grandmas loved the covered deck for a break from the sun. The
outside shower was fantastic.
With small children, we especially appreciated the seclusion of the
home. We felt like we had our own private beach and didn't have to
constantly worry about our children getting lost on a crowded beach.
We would absolutely rent this home again.

Front Row has a very nice view of the ocean. However, the rent is high for what the house offers. It is in need a little updating. We would not rent this house again. We have rented other houses in Emerald Isle for less that are much nicer.

We enjoyed Front Row. The location, views, and comfort, made us feel very relaxed. Our vacation there was very enjoyable, and the home only added to the experience. When you are renting a vacation home, site unseen, you are trusting that the property is honestly represented. This is not always the case. We have had some disappointments in the past, but this one was above our expectations. Wonderful home!

A perfect vacation house!

This was a really perfect vacation house. There were eight of us,
and a large dog, and it was roomy and comfortable. The kitchen
was well stocked with cooking utensils and place settings, and it
was open to the big room so you didn't feel cut off from everyone
else when you were cooking. The big window wall looking out onto
the deck gave an open feeling to the common area, and the deck
was really nice!
There were two bedrooms and a bath on each side of the
common area, and we put the kids and young adults on one side,
and the adults on the other — which worked out well.
Beside the front entrance was a grill (very handy to the kitchen)
that we used several times during the week.
We REALLY used that deck a lot that week! it had plenty of sun
and plenty of shade.
Emerald Isle is a good place to go for a real rest — not a lot of
hoopla, or a lot of huge condos. —A perfect place for a family
vacation. -

We had two adult couples stay here.
We experienced a severe NE storm the first couple of days there. The house was safe and comfortable. The wind gusts were in excess of 60 mph. No leaky windows or roof. The house is a bit removed from the business district. The listing says it accomodates 10.That might be a little too cozy for most. Great layout for us to have the privacy we wanted.
