Our family of 8 adults and 2 small children (my husband, our three children and their spouses and 2 granddaughters, ages 1 and 5 and myself) had an incredible time at Emerald Isle this summer! Not only was the house and location perfect, but the weather was beautiful.
1a Serendipity was a house with great amenities. We loved going to the beach in the morning and returning to spend the afternoons in the pool. Having 2 dishwashers was unexpected and we used them more than I thought we would. The house has a great layout and lots of room for all the adults in our family to spread out. We even had one bedroom that we didn't even use. Having the elevator when we moved in and shopped for groceries was a great help.
The house is equipped with an oversized washer and dryer. This was not listed on the amenities with the realtor's listing. You might want to include it in the future. I had called the house to find out if it had a washer and dryer before we left for Emerald Isle.
Emerald Isle Realty has a great way of checking in. No problems and fast and easy.
We are seriously considering renting the same property next summer. Even though we live in Pennsylvania and the drive is about 10 hours, the house and everything about Emerald Isle gives us plenty of time to relax and enjoy ourselves.

Our first stay in Serendipity was enough to convince us to book again for next year. We loved the location, the pool,the whole house! From our easy check in to effortless check out, our week there was wonderful.
The kitchen is well-equipped with just about everything we needed, right down to a garlic press. We did bring our own coffee grinder and griddle, but cookware and dishes were plentiful and of a nice quality.
The bedrooms were nicely sized, and the bathrooms in the king bedrooms were huge and well-appointed. Not all the bedrooms have Tv's, just the three king masters.
The dining area was large enough for our group--this year there were 12 of us and we were all able to sit together for meals.
The living area had comfortable furniture and an older TV, but the men survived without the large flat screen some of them are used to.
The ground floor consists of a recreation area with ping pong table, small kitchenette with sink, cabinets and table, and a sitting area with futons and a TV and DVD player. There is also a room with two bunk sets and a full bath. The DVD player didn't work, and I'm sure that will be remedied.
The four children in our group eventually felt comfortable enough to play downstairs, but wanted to sleep near their parents who were two floors away. Because one couple could not come, we were able to put all the children upstairs. We're hoping that next year we can get them all into the bunks and futons.
The main deck area had rocking chairs, a table with four chairs, and other seating. It was just steps from the beautifully landscaped pool. Some of the boards were splintering, but it was in otherwise good condition.
The beach was just a short and easy walk away from the pool, which made it nice for hauling gear and little ones.
We truly enjoyed our week at 1a Serendipity, and look forward to making it "our" beach house for years to come.Response from Emerald Isle Realty, Inc - 06/29/2012

Our family has been vacationing at the Outer Banks since 1997. Three years ago we came to Emerald Isle to try a little more layed back feeling. This is the first year we used emeraldislerealty. It was by far the most accomadating realty we have used in 14 years. We only had three lounge chairs at the pool as one was broke and unusable. I called the realty they not only fixed the chair they brought two new ones. Loved the house. Very very nicely layed out and comfortable. Kitchen was really well stocked with pots and pans. We will use this realty again for sure

The house is situated on a lovely piece of land with only a short flight of stairs to the beach. The house is laid out very well for whatever size group you may have, has a good big kitchen and many placed to sit or eat outside.The furnishings are very nice. The showers are small and the water pressure is weak and the taste of the water is awful - the worst any of us have tasted. It should be checked to see that it is safe.

Everything about 1 a Serendipity is awesome ... location is perfect ... loved the pool ... proximity from house to beach is a hop and skip ... loved the kitchen which had every imaginable gadget and pots/pans galore. This house is perfect for a large family vacation. My daughter's on-the-beach wedding was held at 1 a Serendipty ... it was a magnificent day ... 78 degrees, ocean was a blue/green, light wind, absolutely gorgeous! I hope we can stay at this house again.

We loved the house. It had an excellent lay-out, a beautiful setting, nice facilities, and we loved being so close to the water. The location was the best, and we also loved the pool so close to the house, with a short walk to the beach. Each room had a balcony or deck, which was awesome. We were blessed with wonderful, warm weather.

Check in was easy and quick. We had grandparents,parents, and grandchildren of all ages. The house was very large with 11 people and everything in the house was perfect. Kitchen was furnished with every need for cooking and loved the 2 dishwashers. We will book this house again next year. All of the bedrooms with private baths absolutely beautiful. Loved the ocean view and pool location by the ocean.

The 1 A Serendipity is a beautiful property. You can tell the owners take great care both inside and out. The location is perfect and the neighborhood is easy to navigate through for both cars and great walks. The kitchen was well stocked with most things you need. Loved the ice maker! In the basement, is another kitchen with a small frig, however, no glasses or amenities at all - so you have to bring cups and go upstairs for ice. Perfect room for kids though. The pool is amazing. The living area has nice cozy chairs that are perfect for reading or watching tv. The eating area has a large table and small kids table that is also great for playing cards! The bedrooms and bath's are great and nicely appointed. We had a great time, although it would have been nice to heat the pool, the price of 600.00 is just too much. The beach was nice closer to the water's edge for late Sept, the only negative thing; this time of year, trucks are allowed on the beach for fishing - they were going back and forth, day and evening causing huge ruts in the sand and also made it very dangerous for sun bathing. They were passing by us right above our heads to drive on the harder sand surfaces. That was a big downer. During peak times this property is perfect for a large family.

The house was great. It was very close to the beach, the pool was great and the house was wonderful. We had 6 family members, which afforded everyone privacy plus. The decks were great -- we watch dolphins playing several times a day, not far from the beach. We cooked at home every evening -- the gourmet kitchen was wonderful. I loved the large ovens and may have leveraged our experience there to renovate our kitchen! We would definitely stay there again, although earlier in the year so as to take advantage of the pre-Labor Day consistently sunny weather (we had only 1.5 days of sun the entire week!). Emerald Isle service was great!

Well,the weather didn't cooperate with us too much, but the house is wonderful. It has the best layout of bedrooms/kitchen/baths/dining, etc. of any house we've stayed in over 20 years. Convenient to the beach, stores, etc. Really an awesome place and would love to stay there again if we go with a group that big again. SEveral items (front door handles)needed fixing while we were there, and we didn't get prompt service. That was disappointing. The biggest problem was that we got an excessive amount of rain. The house is situated in a bowl and the parking area and around the whole house had 4 inches of standing water. We had to pack our cars in bare feet because we had to wade through the water to get to the cars. Also, some of the water came into the downstairs part of the house. Our beach chairs, umbrellas, etc, were in the front of the house and were floating in rain water, so we had to gather everything up right after one storm, spray them off, and hope they would dry before we left. (They didn't).

We had a wonderful week there. We reserved for next year, hopefully they will have repaired the decking. The deck to the beach, dune seating and porch area wood is ripe for splinters and quite warped. We also had a rainstorm that made a moat around the entire house due to their lack of drainage on the street and property...(?) I would imagine the owners are well aware of this problem as it would certainly flood the bottom floor had it been a lasting storm.

This was a lovely, spacious house in exccellent condition and we had a great vacation. The basement was excellent for the children to congregate and sleep. We used the pool a great deal.
The beds had no comforters and the first crib we rented was faulty, but we received a very rapid response about both things when we called and it did not impair the week at all.
We would certainly consider renting again.
