Description from owner

Description

Here, in Nuthatch Cottage in three acres of gardens and mixed woodlands of a Victorian Hunting Lodge you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the peace & quiet of undisturbed nature. Our cosy three bedroom cottage for up to five people has a stone terrace facing south down the Irfon Valley and the mixed woodland is alive with birds.

Beyond the shrubs and flowers of the formal garden are acres of ancient oak and other native trees. The garden is framed on one side by the distant backdrop of the Irfon Valley and on the other a network of small paths leads through the garden and up into the woods. Some of the paths are cut into the rock itself and provide spectacular views down the valley. An exciting place to explore for both young and old. The woods are home to many birds and animals including greater and Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Owls, Nuthatches, Siskins, squirrels and – if you are lucky a field mouse or a badger.

Just below Cwm Irfon is the river Irfon after which it is named. The use of the cottage includes discounted access to fishing in the River Irfon. The River Irfon winds its way down the wooded valley directly below your cottages cutting many large and small pools into the slate rock. One of these, the 'Washpool' is only a few hundred metres away and provides (on warm days!) a natural swimming pool surrounded by mountains and forests.

Our nearest town is Llanwrtyd Wells, it is three miles down the valley along the River Irfon. Here there are a diverse range of facilities including restaurants, real pubs, an excellent Tourist Information Centre and shops providing all of the basic necessities.

“pretty location, nice friendly couple”

Reviewed 7 Aug 2017

location is beautiful, lovely mountain view from kitchen door. Gyles and Karin were both very friendly, the welcome cake was a lovely touch. Nuthatch cottage comfortably homed all 5 of us for the week. However, the water is pumped around the cottage by a pump located upstairs by the twin room and this is extremely noisy-especially at night which stopped us getting a peaceful nights sleep. The wash pool is just up the road and our boys had great fun in it skimming stones, it is deep enough to swim in but very cold!! The red kite feeding center is only a 30 min drive away and is absolutely amazing to see. Most other attractions are a good hour and a half drive away. The mountain a little way up the road is lovely to take mountain bikes to and also to walk up, views are lovely at the top. There is no phone reception so it means a lovely peaceful holiday!

Response from the owner Thank you for your kind review and our apologies for the water pump! Our water is fresh spring water and has to be pumped to maintain the pressure for showers etc. We are consulting with our plumber to find a quieter way of doing it!

Response from the owner I am not quite sure where you get your information from but, as it happens, the cottages do not yet have access to Wi Fi. We do hope to install Wi Fi in the near future but as some of our guests are electro magnetically sensitive we have decided to make it possible to switch it off at source when requested. We appreciate that a wide variety of people wish to enjoy the tranquility and wildlife here at Cwm Irfon and for this reason would not impose Wi Fi on our guests.

Response from the owner Julian, Thank you for your comprehensive review! You will be pleased to hear that we are currently installing wiFi for all of the cottages. We also now have a combination lock for the garage for the safe storage of bikes - although we live in the most crime free area in the UK!
