If you are looking for a place that is close to both Hunter and Windham - this is the place. It is equidistant from both mountains (maybe slightly closer to Windham), and very convenient to get to/from the mountains. Prattsville took a big hit from Hurrican Irene and is still recovering, but don't let the area drive you away, the cabin is quite nice inside. The host, Ella, is very accomodating - we had a last minute change in plans and she took it all in stride. The most telling about my review - I would stay here again!

The bunglow is a nice warm retreat for travellers in natures lap. At walking distance there is a beautiful river, a nice grocery store(great american store, next time we need not bring anything from home, as u get everything there. We specially loved the fresh rotisseri chicken from the store), a breakfast place(we actually had breakfast there and we loved it), a tavern and a diner.
I was with my husband and my 3 yr old son. We all had fun.
The owner Ella, is a very walm and welcoming person. Ready to help always.
I would certainly rent it every year. And would recommend to others.

Newville, PAA Better Place

The title above is from a book on the book shelf of the bedroom with the Queen size bed. It is exactly how I feel about this wonderful cottage.
The cottage used to be the home of the owner and is right next to the other rental property she has which is a small bungalow she also rents out. She still is finalizing the cottage but it is a place that will make you feel welcomed, as does the owner who is the type of person you cannot help but like. If you are looking at staying at one Ella's properties and are a big person take my advice and get the cottage as the bungalow is very small.
Prattaville is a town that is fighting to come back after the devastating floods of 2011 that wiped out so many of the old victorian homes so it is not the picturesque place it used to be. But the process of rebuilding has begun.
The cottage is located on an alley right off Rt 23 and once on it you have to turn to the left on what looks like a private dirt driveway. Don't worry if you get to the end of the short dead end road, once you turn around it is easier to see the cottage on the right. The setting is not anything special so if you are looking for spectacular views this probably is not the place for you. If you are looking for a place that is comfortable, quiet and inviting that will provide you a base to go enjoy the great outdoor activities this area offers then this property should fit your needs.
I did do a Tripadvisor review but after two weeks it is still pending so who knows if it will get posted, very disappointing. If the Tripadvisor review does get posted there may be subtle differences between the two reviews. -

I just returned today, 7/9/12 from a 5-day stay here. I cannot say enough positive stuff about this place. It is located by some of the area's best hiking trails. The owner is pleasant and accommodating, and the place is spacious and clean. The town is a cozy hamlet and there are so many small towns to visit, each with their own charm. This would also be a skier's paradise. I like that the home had everything in it, including wifi, that made you feel like you were home. There is a grocer in walking distance, as well as a tavern, restaurant, coffee shop, and town museum. The home had a nice, big bath/shower and comfortable beds. There is cable tv, but we did so much we never watched it. I just loved this place and cannot wait to go back. You get waaay more than your dollar's worth. The owner reminds me of people I am friends with...just a totally comfortable place.
