Brookings b&b

2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 2

“Just as good as it could be... No better!!” This our third time staying with John and Nancy. We absolutely love their place and their hospitality. They have the most amazing home with a view that is hard to describe. I will have to take pictures the next time! The room is so warm and cozy. Great breakfast and wonderful company. It is like visiting close friends at the coast. Stimulating conversation and privacy when ya want it. The hot tub sits right outside the room overlooking the ocean. It just doesn't get better than this!! We tell all of our friends and family about this treasure. We don't leave home often. This is one of the few places we go that I am not wanting to get back home right away. We will be back again very soon. Thank you so much John and Nancy. You guys are the best!!!

“Serenity beyond belief!” We fell in love with this place! This was our first trip to the west coast, and now we are planning on coming back as often as we can! I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else! Every night I slept with the windows open so I could fall asleep listening to the waves. Each morning I awoke with excitement to head down to the beach for a stroll. My mother, sister and I would plan each day so that we were back from our site-seeing in time to sit in the hot tub and watch the sunset. Seriously, does it get any better than that? I want to give my daughter the opportunity to have this same experience, so I have already booked our mother/daughter getaway for later this year.

About Brookings

Brookings, Oregon

Once a former fishing and lumber town, Brookings is today a travel hotspot that attracts thousands of summer tourists. From expansive beaches and river adventures, to fantastic sunsets, you can experience it all by renting a Brookings vacation rental on FlipKey.

About Brookings

Located on Oregon’s southern pacific coast just north of the California border, Brookings is often referred to as being in Oregon’s Banana Belt, due to its mild winter temperatures.

Founded in 1908, the city was named after the president of the Brookings Lumber and Box Company, John E. Brookings.

Primarily a lumber company town with a fishing harbor, Brookings’ claim to fame occurred during WWII when a Japanese submarine launched a float plane to drop incendiary bombs on the forest. The mission failed, leaving Brookings as the only continental part of the U.S. to be bombed during the war.

Popular as a retirement destination, Brookings, and the surrounding area, has a population of 13,000, but swells during the summer months by tourists drawn to its unspoiled beaches and magnificent scenery.

The town also holds festivals such as the invitational Southern Oregon Kite Festival, attracting kite enthusiasts from around the world.

What to do

If you’re looking for trendy restaurants and nightlife, leave now because Brookings has none of that to offer. What it does have to offer, however, is mile upon mile of unspoiled beaches with secluded coves and rock pools to explore.

You can even bring your dog as they’re welcome on most public beaches! Surfing is popular in Southern Oregon where NW summer winds near Brookings jetty whip up both left and right-hand peak breaks.

Nearby, you can also hike a part of the 382-mile Oregon Coast Trail or go fishing for salmon and steelheads depending on the time of year.

Three designated whitewater rivers empty into the Pacific Ocean near Brookings, and offer excellent opportunities for rafting and canoeing. Alfred A. Loeb State Park offers jet boat rides through the untamed Rogue Canyon on the Chetco River.

Top Brookings travel tips

While it’s true that Southern Oregon has mild winters, it does come at a price in terms of rainfall. The record year for rain was in 1996 when Brookings received 123.90 inches! The best time to visit is in July and August when it doesn’t rain and the town's various festivals are in full swing.

Visit the Chetco Brewery for some great ales and, as a bonus, eat lunch or dinner in the thai restaurant next door.

Don’t go surfing at low tide and, if visiting for the fishing or whale watching, check reports leading up to the season.

Brookings, Oregon, is a wonderful place and the splendor of the Pacific Northwest is right on your doorstep. To get a taste of this magical part of the country, visit FlipKey where you’ll find fantastic Brookings vacation rentals.

Location, Location, Hot Tub, Ocean

The two of us stayed for three nights two years ago and we hated to pack up and go! We just decided to book four nights in July and the gracious owners offered us $20 off as returning guests. I neglected to write a review then (probably because all of the reviews are so glowing, what more could be said?) But the fact that we couldn't wait to return says a lot. This place is a gem. It's very clean, including the hot tub. You can walk a nearly deserted beach as far as you want to go. The bed is large and comfortable and you can watch TV from it in your waning moments of consciousness at the end of the evening. We would rise, use the hot tub, make breakfast, and head south to the Redwoods each morning. Return, hot tub again, walk the beach... well, you get the idea. And it really is a great ideasee more

25th anniversary Surprise!

We celebrated our 25th anniversary at the Mermaid's Muse. It was a surprise planned by my husband and it was the best gift I could have asked for! The Mermaid's Muse is wonderful gem tucked away in Brookings, Oregon, (don't let the drive down a little neighborhood street fool you). After a friendly greeting from John, the owner, you walk into their home and a before you is a spectacular setting over looking the ocean with a view that you will never tire of. After a tour of their amazing house(reminiscent of all things they love) John guided us to our room, invited us to Happy Hour and left us to settle in enjoying the view. John is a wonderful cook and our breakfast each day was so creative, his Greek Eggs were divine, the next day his sweet potato breakfast fries with pine nuts yummy and our final day fruit crepes were perfect! We had forgotten a blanket for the beach and John provided us with beach grass mats. John's hospitality gave us the feeling we could have requested most anything and he was there to make our stay complete. John, Nancy and friends toasted our 25th anniversary, taking pictures for us off the balcony overlooking the beautiful ocean to share with Family & Friends at home. We love meeting new people and as we left we felt we were amongst new Friends to start our next 25 years! Thank you for a wonderful memory, we will certainly be back!see more
