“Relaxing Vacation” Our stay at 150 Maquam was just lovely. The cottage was clean, comfortable and cozy with enough room for us to enjoy time together and have some alone time. The views of Lake Champlain are just spectacular and I highly recommend watching a few sunsets from the porch or living room. We enjoyed the kitchen (there is a grocery store located near) so, while we ate out most nights, we were still able to enjoy a dinner at home. If you just can't fully unplug like us, there is internet access so don't fret. I'd definetely go back to Maquam for another relaxing vacation.

About Burlington

Burlington, Vermont

The most populous city in Vermont is also one of the state’s most popular tourist destinations, with its vibrant nightlife, family-friendly attractions and access to outdoor pursuits.

Why not search FlipKey for your perfect beach house or cottage for your vacation in Burlington?

About Burlington

Thanks to its location on Lake Champlain, Burlington was once a center for trading in the early 19th century. It’s here that Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream was founded in 1978, and you’ll still find their iconic flavors for sale at the scoop shop in Church Street Marketplace.

Burlington’s humid, hot summers and cold winters mean the best time to visit is during the spring and summer months – although Vermont in the fall is beautiful. Summer months here can be wet, and you can expect quite a bit of snow during the winter time – good news if you’re coming here for a winter sports break!

New England is known for its seafood and some of the lakeside restaurants here serve excellent, fresh catch of the day. You’ll also find a variety of world cuisine on offer at Burlington’s cafes and restaurants, most of which are family-friendly.

What to do in Burlington, Vermont

Kids will love a trip to ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center, where you can get stuck into hands-on exhibits including a frog installation and the remains of a real sunken ship.

For outdoor activities, Waterfront Park has plenty of paths for walking and cycling, as well as golden sandy beaches for swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding (or holding a sandcastle building contest). Or you could always take a cruise tour of Lake Champlain – boats leave regularly from the harbor.

There are several ski resorts within an hour’s drive of Burlington, including Stowe and Smugglers Notch. Or you can go Nordic skiing in the city at Burlington Country Club or Red Rocks Park.

In the summer months, drive to the neighboring town of Colchester for a nostalgic trip to the Sunset Drive-in Theater, which shows movie double bills from April until September.

Top travel tips for Burlington

Burlington is one of New England’s most walkable cities. Although public buses are fairly reliable and cheap, walking or cycling remains the best way to see the sights. The city is bike-friendly, with cycle lanes around the downtown area and bike rental available at shops on the waterfront.

The nearest airport is Burlington International, just a 15-minute drive from the city center. You’ll find car rental available at the airport, but parking in the downtown area can be a struggle during busy times of day.

Whether your idea of the perfect vacation is lazing on the beach or staying active with watersports and winter sports, Burlington has something to suit all tastes.

You’ll find plenty of rentals to choose from in FlipKey’s collection – why not browse and find your perfect property today?

Perfectly tranquil

I had the pleasure of staying here during the summer and winter. It's a long way to come from Sydney but worth it! It's the perfect respite from the hustle and bustle of NYC or any other major city. The views over the lake are amazing, as are the activities on the lake during summer. Sitting lakeside with a drink in hand watching the sunset over the water is simply fantastic. There is good privacy and ample garden space to feel isolated but the property is close to town if a restaurant meal is warranted. The cottage's facilities are excellent if dining in - clean, well-equipped etc and the bedrooms are spacious, quiet and homely. I can't fault the property and look forward to returning one day.see more
