“Awesome views!” We had a great stay at Cottage on the Bay! Everything was just as we expected and even went beyond our expectations. Great view across Resurrection Bay, and we enjoyed watching the fishing boats come and go. Sue is super friendly and knowledgeable and we enjoyed visiting with her. She showed how to use the marine radio to listen to boat communications!

Fairbanks yurt

“Fantastic!” The yurt and house next door were both perfect. Well stocked & clean. The owner, Colleen, is the most amazingly thoughtful person on the planet! Very supportive and helpful while remaining invisible. Lots to do nearby: Denali, Museum at Univ. of AK., North Pole, etc. If you like sourdough, be sure to go to Sam's Sourdough diner. Wow! Only bummer was Expedia sneaking in a booking charge of $178. for the two rentals. Time for someone to start a new site for rentals.

Talkeetna Cottages Moonflower Cabin

Talkeetna log cabin

1 bedroom / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“A lovely experience!” It's hard to say what I liked best about our two nights in the Moonflower Cabin; we found it to be so comfortable and homey, yet charming and "special occasion" as well. The peaceful, not quite in town location was perfect and we enjoyed feeling surrounded by wilderness but only a few miles from down town Talkeetna, and being able to walk to Talkeetna Lake and enjoy the recreation there was a big plus. The service and hospitality were first class and I can honestly recommend this little oasis to anyone who's looking for a clean, comfortable and private setting that's also a great value!

“Spectacular!!!” Spectacular is th one word that describes the Glacier Vista. The view of the bay and majestic glacier horizons makes for a wonderful beginning and the ending of each day. The rental was clea, plenty of room and the continental breakfast goodies were great to begin each morning. If we ever make it back to Homer, Alaska this will be our home away from Texas. Great place to stay for any type of holiday.

A Cabin by the Pond

Soldotna studio

Studio / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“A Great Place To Stay” Having stayed in a lot of lodging in alaska Soldotna area in the past 15 years I would have to say that a cabin by the pond was the most comfortable.Alaska is a great place to visit fish and explore. To enjoy the true alaska experience you need to pace yourself. You will need a week minimum. If you are a keen fisherman by all means do a one day king, halibut and a fly out silver and that's it.Take a break between days because it will exhaust you.Check the tides for clamming great fun day out.Fish from the beach on Whiskey Gulch and anchor point only one hour south from Soldotna.Use herring and salmon belly for bait you would be surprised what you can catch. Best public fishing areas I would have to say head back over the bridge and up towards Murphys lane.(Go a little above that to the public area)Nice quite spot up there great silver red and monster rainbow(on salmon eges)Great Silver fishing down at Cunningham Park(need a good 5-6oz weight to hold you in the current)If you want to catch fish in alaska in the public areas. Be on the water at 6.30am and you will be done by 9.00am or 9.00 pm to 12.00 midnight and have a sleep in the morning.Hey its your vacation but from 9am to 9pm things can get a little too busy on the river for me.Thats why I will head south for beach fishing or north on the Russian River or a day trip to Seward or Homer. Flight discounts probably the best deal is with alaska airlines.Get the visa signature card and a partner can fly for $100.Split the cost hey for under $500 your in business.Car rental.I use aBC motor homes 3 mins from anchorage airport. They pick you up and a lot cheaper than airport prices. Before you go check out the "Alaska Outdoor Journal" website for real time up dates on fishing updates regulations..But above all if you stay at "A Cabin By the Pond" you are right in the middle of it all.Great place to stay highly recommend it. Have fun all the best Murph

About Alaska

With vast expanses of wilderness draping the land, plenty of bears and moose, and mountain peaks that soar into the clouds, Alaska is undeniably one of the most beautiful states in the U.S. and a playground for outdoors enthusiasts. Winters here are long and cold, but the Northern Lights color the sky in emerald and violet hues and help make up for the surplus darkness. Conversely, the summer sun seldom sets, and a 2 AM hike is a common activity. With so much vast wilderness to explore, it's hard to know where to start, but no matter when you come or where you go, America's last great frontier promises to leave you in awe of its grandeur.

Some of the state's most popular attractions and activities include:

  • Prince William Sound: A perfect place to launch your northern adventures, Prince William Sound offers spectacular panoramas of the glacier-frosted mountains that lead into a picturesque harbor.
  • Anchorage: The state's largest city offers many excellent caf‚s and the friendliest group of people you'll meet.
  • Go for a cruise: Alaska cruises are extremely popular and offer casual visitors an excellent way to take in a broad sampling of the state's endless natural attractions and scenery.
  • Commune with nature: The state is filled with Alaska National Parks, offering sights and sounds you simply can't see anywhere else. You can visit Alaska fishing lodges to go ice fishing, take an Alaska dog sledding trip across the snow-covered ground or simply explore and enjoy the awesome scenery.
  • Journey the Dalton Highway: The only trace of civilization through 414 miles of spectacular wilderness, the Dalton Highway runs from just north of Fairbanks to Deadhorse near the Arctic Ocean, and is one of only two roads in North America that cross the Arctic Circle.

Temperatures in Alaska are at their mildest in July, but summers are relatively short given the state's northern location. Spring and fall are excellent times to visit if you want to rough it in the outdoors, as you'll still get some daylight along with plenty of fresh snow.

Instead of staying in a hotel, why not experience the uniqueness of Alaska by staying in a cabin? These rustic vacation rentals offer more space and privacy with all the amenities of home. If you're staying in a major city like Anchorage or Juneau, you can also get a condo that will comfortably house couples, families and groups.

Expand your exploration of North America's majestic north by trekking into neighboring Canada. The Yukon Territory borders Alaska and offers a similar wealth of spectacular scenery, gold rush-era boom towns and friendly hospitality.

Seward Birdhouse, cute and cozy with mountain and bay views
Great stay!

We rented the Seward Birdhouse cottage last week and had wonderful stay. The kitchen was fully equipped, the beds were very comfortable and the mountain/bay view from the kitchen and dining area was incredible. Restaurants and downtown shops were a quick 5 minute walk. Carol was available and very attentive. Thanks for a great stay Carol.see more
Coal Creek Cabins.....Cabin rental in Alaska's quiet wilderness setting
Wilderness Hideway

The location of this cabin is a huge draw. Its close enough to neighboring cities and Homer. The creek behind the cabin is amazing. What a great way to relax - listening to the flow of the creek! The cabin had plenty of space and amenities. What an awesome place to vacation!! … see more
Duben Place Guesthouse, Quiet, Spacious fully furnished
Beautiful house very friendly dog

Michelle and Quinn were amazing hosts! The house was beautiful, quiet, and very clean. We brought our little dog with us and Quinn was great and so patient with him. Our dog is a bit afraid of bigger dogs and Quinn helped show him big dogs can play and have fun too! Very nice, well socialized, happy dog. I will defentially be staying here again when I come to town. Michelle had great tips for hikes to go on and places to visit.see more

Mountain Chalet with Sweeping Inlet and Mountain Views
18 Summers in Alaska; The Chalet was one of my favorite home away from home! You can't help but feel saturated by Alaska

Surrounded by windows, light and views the Mountain Chalet is truly lovely. The location on Upper Hillside opens up expansive views with unforgettable sunsets sitting at the portrait glass window in the sitting area with a glass wine. 10 minutes from Glenn Alps and Flat Top / Powerline offers any level hike you are looking for with expansive scenery and wildlife. You can be in town easily in 15 minutes for groceries and restaurants; 20 minutes to the airport and about 25 minutes to downtown for all the shopping and restaurants you could want. However, we enjoyed cooking in the awesome kitchen and enjoying dining with better views than any restaurant in town. The bedrooms are all spacious and plenty of space in the bathrooms. I have been spending much of the summers for the past 18 years in Alaska and this was one of my favorite home away from homes. I love Alaska and felt embraced with all Alaska has to offer at this lovely home of Gwen and Mark. I hope to return to enjoy this special home again. One note would be if you have any one in your party that can not manage stairs this could be a challenge since the entrance to the home in up two flights of stairs. Awesome Alaska Retreat.see more
