“Seward-great accommodations” We stayed in the Seward Birdhouse while visiting our daughter who is working on Fox Island. The house is clean, cozy and centrally located. Walking downtown and to the harbor was very easy and the view from the front of the house was a lovely view of Resurrection Bay. Carol left a bunch of coupons for different establishments in town. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was fully equipped to cook if you wanted to do that. Was a memorable experience!

About Seward

Right on the edge of Resurrection Bay, the city of Seward is close to Kenai Fjords National Park, and renowned for its excellent shopping, nightlife and restaurants.

Why not book your perfect Alaskan vacation rental with FlipKey and get ready for an adventure?

About Seward

The city was founded in 1903, named after William H Seward, the US Secretary of State. Seward is the Southern terminus of the Alaska Railroad and the end point for many cruise ships travelling north, so it can get busy here during peak season (the summer months).

Whether you’re into sea kayaking, bird watching, hiking, biking or fishing, you’ll find plenty of outdoor activities in the area, and you’re surrounded by natural beauty at every turn, with Kenai Fjords National Park, the Harding Ice Field and the Exit Glacier just moments away.

Options for dining are plentiful too and mostly low-key and family-friendly, with everything from Mexican and pizza to the freshest, locally caught fish and seafood. If you prefer, you can hop on board a fishing charter and catch your own salmon or halibut for dinner!

What to do

Kids will love a trip to the Sealife Center: 115,000 square feet packed with underwater exhibits where you can spot seals, puffins, sea lions and more. No trip to Seward is complete without a visit to Kenai Fjords National Park. Home to the Harding Ice Field, this 587,000-acre park is packed with marine wildlife—you’ll spot whales, puffins, sea lions and seals. Visit Exit Glacier (you can get close enough to touch it) on foot or rent a kayak and paddle amongst sea otters.

There are plenty of other outdoor activities too, from sailing to hiking and even guided dog sled tours. The 5-mile coastal trail to Caine’s Head is a popular hike, with some spectacular views at the end.

For something a little less energetic, stroll around the harbor with its galleries and restaurants or head for historic Main Street where you can shop for souvenirs.

Top travel tips

The nearest airports are Ted Stevens Anchorage International and Kenai Municipal Airport, both around 100 miles away.

Most attractions in Seward are open from May-September, with peak season running from June-August. Average summer temperatures range from 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Car rental is available at the airport, but Seward is a bike-friendly city, with bikes available to rent and guided bike tours a great way to see more of your surroundings.

Spectacular glaciers, marine life, natural beauty and a wealth of outdoor activities combine to make a vacation to Seward an adventure you won’t forget in a hurry!

Seward Birdhouse, cute and cozy with mountain and bay views
Carol's Birdhouse gave us a charming place to rest after sight-seeing!

My husband, my folks and I were delighted with the Seward Birdhouse. Clean, classy, and cozy, with a great view of the Harbor. It was close to downtown AND the harbor area with a walking path along the way. The kitchen was pleasant, the rooms and bathrooms perfect, even a washer and dryer. We enjoyed a DVD from her thoughtful selection one evening! We learned a lot about the Mount Marathon this town celebrates every 4th of July. A perfect spot if you plan on going on a Kenai Fjords Tours, or just meandering around the local specialties! We highly recommend this home. Carol is friendly, efficient and accommodating! Arctic Paradise B&B
A warm and cozy haven, close to all Seward has to offer.

Mary Ann has created a wonderful place to stay in Seward. The room is cozy with all the amenities needed. A mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot, and set table, all in the room. The healthy breakfasts were there in the fridge waiting for when you choose to eat. She also provided popcorn (my husband's favorite). Mary Ann was very helpful and we loved talking with her while playing with Clementine.see more
