“Pet friendly and peaceful.” A delightful, cosy cottage ideal for a peaceful break. Our dogs were made to feel very welcome. Situated on a farm, there were lots of places to walk and a very good pub serving excellent food was within walking distance. The addition of coal and other fire making materials made the cottage warm and cosy once the night set in. The Dales are only a short drive away along with quaint market towns that have quirky shops and lots of cafes.

“Superb holiday cottage” We stayed here in March. This was our 2nd stay at Millers Retreat. The owners always make such an effort - nothing is too much trouble for them. The cottage itself is the best holiday cottage we have ever rented. Wonderful kitchen with all mod cons -3 tvs!!! Shower experience out of this world! Comfortable living area with lots of books & puzzles & games to enjoy, Beautiful bedroom large bedroom and a lovely warm cottage. The garden was perfect for our doggies and we could watch all the birds on the feeders from the large patio windows. We enjoy walking and there is so much to do in the area. Cresswell Crags, just down the road, is a delight. Poulter Country park, Teversal trails and many more walks close by. Thoroughly recommend Millers Retreat and hope we can visit here for many more years.

“Lovely” From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel very welcome at acorn cottage by the owners. The log burner was on, mince pies were in the oven. The cottage itself was beautiful. It was very clean and there was good information as regards to the local area. It was only 15mins drive into the centre of Matlock so was well placed in the peak district. Children were able to help on the farm which they enjoyed. We are already booked to go back again!

Why Derbyshire?

This huge rolling area in the East Midlands is a truly beautiful example of the English rural countryside, where you’ll find a wide variety of plant and animal life, and different terrains. It’s the perfect place for hikers and those who love to explore the great outdoors. Book a vacation rental in the Peak District, Derbyshire and start experiencing nature.

About Peak District, Derbyshire

Phenomenally picturesque, the Peak District is not named for its mountains (as it doesn't have any), but for an ancient tribe that was believed to have resided in the area.

The landscape can be considered to split into two geologically contrasting areas; there's the White Peak with its limestone dales, famed for its rare flora, including orchids and Jacob's Ladder; and the Dark Peak, where the hills are higher and there's lots of heather, bogs and moorland.

What to Do

Kids will love Gulliver's Kingdom, a charming little theme park in amazing surroundings.

Top Peak District, Derbyshire Travel Tips

Be aware of your abilities when hiking and use common sense. Don't go alone and make sure someone knows what route you're taking. Whilst there are several excellent Mountain Rescue Teams if you do get into real difficulties, try to take every measure to stay safe out there and not need them!

For an amazingly beautiful hiking vacation in a vast and picturesque region, be sure to book your next vacation rental in the Peak District, Derbyshire.

Fox's Place Holiday Home
Faultless..just like a home from home

A pre-birthday family get together. I had looked elsewhere but very glad I came across Fox's Place. Excellent accommodation with no shortage of the necessities for a stay. The starter basket in the kitchen was a very welcome surprise. The house and gardens are stunning ! Sheltered spots for book lovers. Enough off-street parking space too. A bonus. Would we come back again ? A big YES.see more
8 TAWNEY HOUSE, romantic, country holiday cottage in Matlock, Ref 2401
Well equipped and well located flat

We stayed at the flat in May 2014. It was clean, spacious, comfortable and well equipped. It was only a short walk into the centre of Matlock through a very pleasant park. The provision of milk and biscuits on our arrival was a welcome touch. The flat is part of an old building converted into flats and is accessed via a set of external stairs. The flats have a dedicated car park. Although there is no car park for the sole use of this flat we had no trouble getting parked. This is a good base to explore the southern Peak District. There are good bus connections which we used to visit Bakewell and Buxton (the advantages of an OAP bus pass). The description does say that it sleeps 4 but the second bedroom is small and may be quite cramped for more than one. This didn't affect us as we did not use the second bedroom. Would recommend. see more
DRAGON HILL BARN, family friendly, luxury holiday cottage, with open fire in
Lovely

A lovely cosy barn, good peaceful location, great walks from the door, everything we needed was supplied and in excellent condition. Several nice pubs, two within a 2 minute walk. The welcome folder with local info was invaluable. Only down side was no bath and no garden, but the other features more than made up for it!see more

Perfect home-from-home in gorgeous surroundings

We enjoyed a fabulous short break at Grooms Quarters. We were warmly welcomed by the lovely owner, Ann, given a tour of the property, presented with some homemade cake (which was delicious), and told of the back route to Alton Towers which got us there in less than 10 minutes! The cottage is located in gorgeous surroundings, and very well equipped- Ann really had thought of everything. The accommodation was extremely comfortable, and would work well for families or groups. The master bedroom is outstanding, with sunset views being the icing on the cake! The fields behind the cottage had newborn lambs, rabbits and pheasants, with cows and horses across the lane. Wonderful walking nearby. Something to please everyone here.see more
