Zen House - see at JoshuaTreeGetaways.com

Joshua Tree house

3 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 8

“Beautiful, Peaceful, and Relaxing” I recently stayed at the Zen House and had an amazing experience. It was great to get away from the city for a bit and come out to such a calming and stress-free environment. Vera was extremely friendly and helpful in all communications I had with her. All of my friends loved the place and I have to say my favorite part was sitting by the fire pit and then lounging in the hot tub under a star-filled sky. I definitely will be staying here again!

Todos Santos by Joshua Desert Retreats

Joshua Tree house

2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“Out in the desert” The house is beautifully located at the edge of Wondervalley, with views from the hot tub in all directions, the mountains and the flat expanse of the valley. We were at the house maybe a little too early in the season and caught an especially hot weekend - which made us miss a shaded porch but made us love the shade of the low growing tree next to the hammock even more. This is the place to go if you want to get away from civilization without driving too far.

The Cactus Patch: Your home away from home

Joshua Tree apartment

1 bedroom / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 6

“Cozy, Welcoming Getaway!” Gayle and Tom were fantastic hosts! So friendly and hospitable. They gave us great suggestions on Joshua Tree hikes and provided everything and then some for our stay. We had 5 people on our trip and found all that we needed in the condo -- water bottles, flashlights, maps, hiking guides and restaurant menus, plenty of pillows, blankets, towels, coffee, tea. The landscaping and patio areas made us feel at home. There was more than enough room for all 5 of us to sleep, considering that two of us slept outside on the upstairs patio under the stars...more stars than any sky I've ever gazed at! The property is well taken care of and situated in beautiful open land where you can see for miles (think Breaking Bad). It's also conveniently located 3 miles from small downtown and .5 miles from north entrances of Joshua Tree National Park. We were able to get 5 exhibits/hikes in in 24 hours (Split Rock, Cholla Cactus Garden, Ryan Mountain, Keys View, Long Horse Mine Trail). Gayle and Tom even invited us up to join them for sunset at Ryan Mountain! We will definitely be back, hopefully for a longer stay :)

Joshua Tree Desert Oasis

Joshua Tree house

2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 6

“Great property and perfect location” Gina and Christian's oasis in Joshua Tree really is an oasis. The grounds are so well maintained and waking up to the birds every morning was such a treat. We even saw a couple bunnies bouncing around. Our freinds daughter couldn't get enough of watching the fish swim around the canoe. The interior is warm and inviting and had all the right amenities. For 2 couple and a toddler we had plenty of space and having the separation of the guest cottage came in very handy for when the kid-less couple wanted to sleep in :). 10 mins from an entrance to Joshua tree national park we could have asked for a better location. It's also very close to grocery stores, local restaurants and pioneertown. Gina and Christian were very attentive to any questions we had before and during the stay. We will definitely be booking this house again for our next joshua Tree adventure!

“Absolutely beautiful home that was the perfect place for old friends to come together.” I have nothing but great things to say about this place! The decor was so charming! Clean, comfortable beds, amazing scenery, perfect outside area, and the casita was a dream for me to stay in! I have absolutely no complaints, and I plan on making my stay here a yearly event. The entire process was very easy. Scott and Vanessa provided us with all of the information we needed and were very helpful. This place would be great for families as well!

“Inspiring” We came here to work on a photo project. The sunrises and sunsets were stunning. I stayed in the bunkhouse and loved the quiet and tranquility. There was ample a/c to combat the day heat and the pool was a morning must. This place really couldn't be more perfect for a desert retreat weekend.

“The best way to vacation in the desert” This was the first time that we rented a home for the weekend and we were very impressed with the Zen-Go house. The house was beautifully decorated, very comfortable, and the air conditioning worked perfectly. The kids enjoyed the pool, ping pong table, and horseshoes. We all enjoyed dining outside and hanging around the fire pit. We definitely will be renting Zen-Go again, but this time we won't over pack...this house comes with everything so all you have to pack is clothing, food, and sunscreen.

Adobe by Joshua Desert Retreats

Joshua Tree house

1 bedroom / 1 bathroom / sleeps 3

“The adobe” Just returned from a trip to the high desert , where I spent a couple of nights at the adobe. I've spent a good deal of time here in the past , and always looked forward to returning. As a rental property, the adobe is the perfect size for two. All of the basics are provided, and everything quite comfortable. Thoughtful landscaping and interior design complement the surrounding setting, without becoming distracting. I come to the desert for quiet and a sense of space, and the adobe is a perfect vehicle for that. Doesn't get much better than watching stars from the hot tub, or morning coffee in the hammock out front. But be careful, if you do the same, you might start to wonder what you're doing with your life, and whether or not you should get back on that plane at all. Enjoy.

“What a relaxing weekend” We were looking for a comfortable, stylish get-away from the bustle of la and to enjoy the beauty of the desert and Joshua Tree. All our expectations, and then some, were met in this charming home professionally decorated in the Hollywood style from a past era. The beds are comfortable and the house is an oasis of peace and calm. Loved the kitchen. Joshua Tree is so close and we enjoyed hikes during the day and evenings in the hot tub. Looking forward to returning soon.

High Desert Eden: Pioneertown Wildlife Sanctuary

Joshua Tree house

1 bedroom / 1 bathroom / sleeps 5

“Come have fun and restore your soul in a place of wonder and sur” These words offer a glimpse of High Desert Eden: unique, a treasure, special, full of surprises, soulful. They give a taste of what is in store for the traveler who can take some time to experience bliss, wonder and fun! Robin Maxwell, an internationally renowned author, and her husband, Maxwell Thomas, an esteemed yoga master, have created a wonderland they lovingly share with others. The casita is spacious, warm, inviting, full of art, books and binoculars, and open to the environment with large windows and an inviting sleeping porch. One can begin the day with the red glow of an upcoming sunrise, then experience the brightness of the full sun coming over the mesa. Throughout the day the birds, rabbits and other desert animals appear as if by magic all over the property. The sky is a gorgeous blue and the rocks a wonder. As you wander the grounds, you see true desert gardens with raked paths solar lit for nighttime excursions! In the evening, one can sit and watch the stars unimpeded by light pollution. I have been there with my husband in august and with junior high school girlfriends in March. Each season is special. I invite everyone to search the nooks and crannies of the property to find such treasures as the wishing bell, marriage rock, the calico cat with the butterfly, 4 crystal birds, 7 dancing women, 2 Buddhas, an outside exercise room, the yoga mat on "yoga rock", the Koi of course, my favorite - the driftwood bird with the multicolor "rake" tail, and of course so much more. If you can bear to leave the property there are lots of local places to visit such as Pioneertown and Joshua Tree. This is an "eden" you will feel lucky to have visited and will want to come back for more!

“Perfect!” These houses were just lovely--a perfect setting in which to soak up the beauty of the Mojave Desert. We especially enjoyed the fire pits and the star-gazing in the outdoor hot tub. The houses are charming, fairly spacious, warm and clean. One even has a pool and ping-pong table. With all of these amenities, we never found ourselves bored. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen is well-equipped, with a nice booth that works great for communal meals. All in all, we were very happy with our stay and plan on returning next year!

Rock Haven Cabin ~ quiet, beautiful, private

Joshua Tree house

1 bedroom / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“Desert Lover's Dream!” My husband and I were looking for a peaceful and serene place out in the middle of the desert where we could escape all of our daily stresses for four days and three nights. Rock Haven Cabin surpassed all of our expectations. After a long drive the Jacuzzi was the perfect way to unwind, just soaking away the aches while enjoying a superb view of Joshua Tree National Monument. Eva & Kathy have created a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere with their subtle western style of decor. The bed is huge and provided the best night's sleep we have had in months. Everything is ready and waiting for guests, from shampoo, conditioner and body wash, to bathrobes, slippers and a fully stocked kitchen, including bird seed for feeding the birds and rabbits! All you need to bring is yourself, your toothbrush and toothpaste and some food. We HIGHLY recommend and endorse a stay at Rock Haven Cabin.

“Weekend stay at Jackalope!” Back in October my family stayed at Jackalope for a long weekend and it was so refreshing! Being a city girl, I never imagined we would be able to see that many stars. Horseshoes was fun to play in the evenings, the hiking was great and the kangaroo mouse that lives in the backyard was a lot of fun to watch! My husband really enjoyed the hammock. :-)

About Joshua Tree

×

Found in the Mojave desert, it's not surprising that Joshua Tree, California, is a hot place to stay (literally – it gets to about 101F in the summer!).

If you think you can stand the heat, find your vacation rental on FlipKey and start planning your next trip. A word of advice: book a place with air conditioning!

About Joshua Tree, California

Joshua Tree is the area where two deserts meet and their ecosystems collide. This results in a wonderfully wacky mix of plants and animals growing there.

Which deserts are we talking about? The high Mojave and low Colorado desert. The area itself has been turned into a national park and it's no surprise why – it's a unique landscape that no other area can match.

It's a slightly unusual vacation destination, but if you're tired of the traditional outdoor adventures and looking for something a little more challenging, Joshua Tree is the place to go.

What to do in Joshua Tree, California

Head to the visitor center to get to grips with the park. From here, you can take a guided tour of the area and make sure you see everything the national park has to offer.

There are plenty of walks and hiking trails you can try without a guide. Just remember to pack your water – it's easy to get dehydrated out there.

If you're looking for something a little more extreme, take a guided cliff climbing tour. Your guide will explain about the area (and help you get up the rock face) and you'll have unrivaled views of the park.

Most people have heard of the Joshua Tree Music Festival – it's the family friendly event held three times a year. It's all about centering yourself and expressing your creativity, so if that sounds like your kind of thing, head on down!

Top travel tips for Joshua Tree

Dress in layers – you never know how hot it's really going to be, so be prepared for anything. Even though it's a desert, you may still get chilly in the evenings.

Bring a lot of sunscreen! And buy more once you're there – you can never have enough.

Try all the restaurants you can. There are some great fine dining options, though cafes on the side of the road do great food, too. Our one piece of advice: be adventurous!

If you're going to do guided tours – especially the rock climbing ones – book in advance online, that way you'll be sure to get a slot.

For a slightly different adventure, book your Joshua Tree vacation rental on FlipKey today. You'll have a great time, and make memories that will last forever.
