“Best Villa in Milos” I stayed at this beautiful villa last year and it was one of the best places to spend your holiday! I've stayed in a few other hotels/ villa's on the island of Milos but I can safely say that I enjoyed Casa aiora the most! From the wonderful interior design, to the fantastic courtyard this place is perfect. It was great to wake up to delicious homemade snacks in the morning as well. There is a nice kitchen so if you choose to cook you have everything at your disposal to do so. The beds are very comfortable and the air condition is always a bonus on the warm Milos nights! There is parking nearby as well so you don't have leave your car down the bottom of the hill. The location is ideal as it is close enough to walk to most of adamas' bars, restaurants and cafe's but it is very secluded and sheltered from any of the party noises. The villa is wonderfully maintained, we didn't encounter any problems on our stay and it is cleaned very well daily! The owner Katy is very helpful and knows everything about the island and knows all the best beaches, restaurants and will also advise where to get your rental cars. Overall I couldn't have asked for anything more from my island holiday and will definitely be going back there next time I travel to Milos!

“Beautiful apartment in Plaka.” We spent 6 nights in this wonderful apartment and didn't want to leave. The apartment is in a great location, in the middle of the old town. It was a great place to come home to after spending the day at the beach. Restaurants and shops and your door step. People are ridiculously friendly and welcoming. Very clean and comfortable, with nice view over the Island. I wouldn't wanted to stay anywhere else!

About Milos

If you are looking for a secret Greek island getaway that has escaped the crowds found on Santorini and Mykonos, then Milos is for you. Authentic in every way, Milos is how the Greek Islands were before tourism. For accommodation on Milos, look no further than FlipKey where they have dozens of rental properties available.

About Milos, Greece

An undiscovered Aegean gem, Milos is a part of the Cycladic chain of islands located about halfway between Athens and Crete. With an area of about 56 square miles, Milos is the fifth largest of Cyclades and has over 70 beaches, more than any other island.

Dating back to the Minoan civilization of Crete when Milos supplied them with obsidian, mining has been a big industry on Milos and is perhaps one of the reasons why tourism has been slow to develop.

A statue of the Greek Goddess Aphrodite was discovered on Milos in 1820 and sold to the French Consul who then gave it to King Louis XVIII of France as a gift.

The King immediately put the statue on display in the Louvre museum in Paris where it is still available for the world to see. You probably know it as the Venus de Milo.

What to do in Milos

The best way to see the Milos is to take an around-the-island boat tour from the port of Adamos stopping at the white sandy beach of Sarakiniko. Here, majestic white pumice rock formations contrast with the deep cobalt blue of the sea.

Visit the hilltop town of Plaka, the island’s true capital, and wander the narrow streets through the whitewashed houses so typical of Greek islands.

Visit the 13th-century Venetian castle before heading down to the harbor for a traditional Greek Island meze lunch at a waterfront tavern.

Other sights worth seeing include the early Christian Catacombs near the village of Tripiti that were cut by hand into the porous volcanic rock.

Still the European Union’s largest producer of bentonite and perlite, a visit to the mining museum is a must as it explains the civilizations and invaders that have mined the island’s riches for millennia.

Top travel tips for Milos

The best time of year to visit Milos is during the summer from the second week in May until the middle of October. Try to avoid visiting during the summer school vacation and especially in August when the Greeks take their vacations. This can mean more crowds.

You have several ways of getting to Milos that include a daily flight from Athens or by ferry or hydrofoil from the Port of Piraeus. Combine your stay on Milos with visits to some of the other islands, with Sifnos just an hour away and Santorini two hours by hydrofoil.

A Greek Island summer vacation is just about as good as it gets. And while Milos may be a little on the quiet side, for some it may just be what the doctor ordered. From a simple beachside apartment to a villa with a pool, FlipKey has just the accommodation you are looking for. Start searching for your perfect vacation rental, today!

What a find! Great place to stay on Milos

Stayed in this beautiful house in 2013 and September was a perfect month to visit. Still a lot going on but not too hot. Katy was an extremely efficient host looking after our needs without being intrusive at all. Not always easy to get this right but she managed it very well. The morning bakes were delicious and eagerly anticipated! A very nice touch. The whole house was tastefully decorated and kitted out with everything you might need, including comfy beds. I loved the little extras outside like the hammock, outdoor shower and large covered seating area/veranda. This made a great communal area for everyone, for eating or just relaxing, I wanted to throw a party and invite all my friends! Thank you so much for looking after us so well Katy and for all your sound recommendations. I do hope that we can come back and stay again some time soon!see more

Awesome setting, great home

We stayed at the Syrma house in late September as the last stop on a three month trip round Cyclades, and could not have picked a house closiest to the sea, serene or comfortable place to stay. It was absolutely wonderful. We used to swim over 8 times per day, had super afternoons with barbeque just in front of the sea, some lovely boat trips, unforgetable morning coffees and some of our best sleeps. The setting with sunset views is lovely and the accommodation is very comfortable for a family of four. Our hostess Eleni was very helpful and considerate. We met her at a taverna one afternoon and had a very nice time with her, her husband and her littlle son . It was a wonderful end to a great trip, and I would recommend the Syrma house to anyone who is looking for some where special and different to stay.see more

charming, comfortable, well located, hospitable, stylish

We stayed at anoi 2 weeks during September and everything was dreamy.I am from Greece and my husbant from France. The house is perfect for 2 people.I had read that there wasn't an wardrobe and I was sceptical as we wanted to stay for a log time and we had 3 big baggages!Fortunately the house had a lot of places to put your things, withough disturbing. After staying there I could say that everything was very wisely placed. The sitting room has a table were we put our computer and a very big corner sofa with helper tables, a mirror, a chests and some hangers for clothes. The bedroom had a very comfortable bed, where we sleeped too good.We do not know if the bed was so nice or our daily program made us slept so pleasant. There were also one helper table and some shelves.Everything had a minimal style. The bathroom had medium size and I loved it, I think it was the most stylish bathroom I had seen. At last, the veranda ... we enjoyed it for many hours. Half of the veranda is sheltered for having protection from the sun. There are a table and 2 chairs and a small kithen where we used to cook some days. You must try to buy some fruits and vegetables from the local greengrocers, they are coming to all the villages on their truck. The other half of the veranda is exposed to the greek sun and has a sun chair. The location is fantastic and the hospitality is one to remember. When I have a lot of work I often thing of my holidays on Milos at anoi. I miss the feeling!see more
