Puerto Escondido house
3 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 6
“All we could want” Loved the traditional Mexican flavor of the house, good layout, super clean. I love being outside as much as I can and sooo appreciated the cute little private pool in the back yard (in addition to the large shared pool in the front). Spent hours in the hammocks on the roof top palapa among all the plants...idyllic! Having playa Manzanillio just down the street was icing on the cake.

House Near the Beach in Puerto Escondido
Puerto Escondido house
5 bedrooms / 6 bathrooms / sleeps 10
“Dream Holiday!” We stayed at Casa Loma last summer and had an effortlessly reviving experience. This place is minutes (on foot!) from some of the most beautiful beaches in Puerto! It's absolutely clean and safe due to the watchful attention of a lovely housekeeper and regal gentleman gardener in his 80's :) !! The best thing about this place is the roof terrace with two levels of ocean-viewing bliss, two hammocks, lounging furniture, table and chairs and ample room to do your morning yoga practice or sip on fresh juice while sunbathing in privacy (read: naked). By the way, the kitchen is fully stocked, nothing special but absolutely fine. With the nightlife, seafood and tacos around town, you won't be eating in too often! But, if you do--Casa Loma is minutes away from the grocery store and many other small bodegas as well as a block from a cute, family-owned internet "cafe" (not a cafe so much as a room with ancient monitors and stiff chairs...which is good b/c you didn't come to Mexico to be online...right?) The design of the place is super cute too, with bright, festive accents. Chuck and Mary (the owners that you'll deal with upon renting) seem thoughtful and definitely knowledgeable about Mexican culture and Puerto in general. They're world travelers themselves and seem to earnestly want to make your stay great and easy. We rented a scooter for a few days and zipped around the countryside. I suggest you stay at Casa Loma and do the same!

Casa Mihale-Sweeping Ocean Vistas New Beach Home
San Agustinillo house
2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4
“Absolute Heavenly Bliss” We have been going to San Augustinillo for many years. Over the years the little town has built up, so on our last research when we found Casa Mihale and I spoke in length to the owner (Leigh) we couldn't have been more happy to found this place. First of all the view is breathtaking, yes you actually see whales breaching, we saw them quite regularly, much to the delight of our little girl. Then the place itself is so beautifully designed (yes alright we know him aswell) the shower is fabulous, and the place is spacious, yet cosy. I particularly liked the little booth area where I read each afternoon as my skin settled from the heat. There is also a great breeze that sweeps through the apartment which makes this very comfortable. I highly recommend staying at Casa Mihale, the locals are so friendly, they make you feel like family straight away. Then there's the beach, well pick one spot and you won't see anyone else's eyeballs for at least 30 feet. It's long, sweeping and absolutely beautiful. We did our daily family walks up and down it before breakfast around 7 and it was perfect. Yes I highly recommend this vacation spot even though I really want it all to myself.

“The Sanctuary - a place to be yourself, relax, surf, unwind and” I stayed at the Sanctuary for a week and a half in July - the Sanctuary was exactly that "A Sanctuary" a place for me to just relax, unwind, surf, hang out with authentic people and focus on myself. The establishment is located in a quiet part of Puerto Escondido very near (10mins walk) the popular surfing beach Zicatela. Being an avid surfer myself I loved that the beach was so close with the point break another 10 mins walk once you get to the beach. For a small deposit they even leant me their surfboard. Sure I could have stayed at a cheaper hostel a little bt closer to the beach but the Sanctuary offered me so much more than what any hostel could offer. The real magic is what they are creating - which is a place where you can come and evolve either as an individual or as a small or large group. They aim to help you move forwards on all levels physically, emotionally, spiritually. Included in my stay was their regular yoga classes, african dance, daily fresh organic juice and breakfast and a cooked vegetarian lunch - I did not even need to eat an evening meal! They are also actively involving the local community in all of their programs and events. Pete the owner is a great guy, he is the visionary for the space and what it is evolving into. Although he has now overseas looking to start another place and has handed over the daily operation to a manager. Other aspects I loved about the Sanctuary: - It is a massive villa with three levels, the Palapa on the 3rd level is awesome - They treat you as part of your family from the time you arrive and even after you leave - I have made some lifelong friends from my stay. - There is always something happening e.g. yoga, meditation, day trips, going out to a cafe, going shopping at the local market - It is in the heart of a local neighbourhood - so you get a true local experience, however a 10min walk and you are amongst local bars and restaurants. If you're looking for something different this is the place for you.

Stunning house/salt heated pool nr center,Oaxaca City
Oaxaca house
2 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 7
“Fabulous Oaxaca Experience” We loved staying in the house in San Felipe del agua. It was located a bit outside the city in a quiet suburb. It was readily accessible by bus that ran regularly and by an inexpensive taxi ride into or out of town. We didn't mind being out of town. There were several outdoor markets each week just a couple of blocks away so we could stock up on fresh produce, etc. And there were several small stores with other necessities. The woman next door made fresh tortillas. The house itself was large and comfortable, though not luxurious. We really liked our upstairs master bedroom with its own desk area. Guests could stay downstairs and had their own bathroom. The kitchen had all the necessities and we loved having a washer and then hanging our clothes out to dry. There was a woman who cleaned every week and kept the place spotless. The hosts were wonderful and very accommodating. Judith occasionally shopped for us at Sam's Club, took us to a doctor when needed, allowed us to have important business documents faxed or emailed and printed out. They were wonderful hosts. The only thing we didn't love was the pool because it felt a bit intrusive to use it because it's in their back yard but it's a very nice solar heated poor and the discomfort I felt was not because of the hosts. I just prefer a private pool. Oaxaca itself is an amazing and wonderful place. We felt totally safe there. We had fabulous food, loved the ancient ruins and the contemporary crafts. We were there more than two months and were never bored. We took cooking classes, visited the ruins and the various crafts villages, poked around the museums, the markets and the shops. I highly recommend this house, especially if you are planning to stay long enough to settle into Oaxaca (more than 10 days or so).
