“romantic” We stayed for two nights to celebrate our 41st anniversary. The cottage was right on the water, very clean, and decorated beautifully - glorious fireplace - which Nanae had already set up for us (thank you!). Though we did not cook - had we wanted to, everything was available in the kitchen. The whole setting was breathtaking - and though we were not fortunate enough to see any whales - we did see an otter and two magnificent eagles fly by. The whole island is a romantic destination. If I could have wished for just one thing, it would have been to have a hot tub so we could have "bubbled" under the incredible blanket of stars.

Spacious, Affordable, & $40/Extra Guests - Orcas Island

Eastsound house

5 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms / sleeps 14

“Comfort” The stay was overall very comfortable with the serenity of the island along with the comfort of a fully equipped house. From major things like the clean kitchen, bedrooms, patio to small things like poking rod next to the fire place, board games and balls next to the court were all very delighting. Enjoyed every bit of it and had a wonderful time in Orcas Island thanks to Cedar Field Vacation House. The only con was the complexity of the heating system to a person who hasn't used something like that before. It got toasty in the middle of the night as the settings automatically defaulted to a higher temperature after a particular time.

About Orcas Island

Just off the coast of Washington lies Orcas Island.

It's a quiet, relaxed place, but it has loads to keep you entertained. For a truly rejuvenating vacation, book your Orcas Island rental with FlipKey today.

About Orcas Island, Washington

This is the largest of the San Juan Islands, but there aren't many people on it. That means there's much more of it for you to enjoy.

Orcas Island life is all about the laid back, sedate and relaxing experience.

That's not to say there aren't things to do—there are plenty of opportunities for adventure here, if you know where to look.

The best thing to do is ask a local for their recommendations. They're usually happy to help and may let you in on a few insider island secrets, like the best spots to watch whales.

This peaceful island is the perfect getaway destination for those looking to escape the busy city life, though it's not too far away from the mainland if you want a day trip or two.

What to do

With a name like Orcas island, it should be no surprise that whale watching is a big thing here.

Take a boat tour around the San Juan islands and you'll see orca pods breaching and playing in the water. There's nothing quite like this breathtaking experience—you'll see marine life in all its glory.

If you're a keen sailor, you could take a boat out yourself and enjoy a day on the calm waters that surround the island. Take a picnic and a camera in case you spot a whale or two.

If you're interested in the history of the area, head to downtown Eastsound and the Orcas Island Historical museum. You could also check out the three historic camps: Orkila, Four Winds Westward Ho and Camp Indralaya.

Want to stay on land? Head to Moran State Park. There are several lakes, beautiful woodlands and spectacular waterfalls. There are plenty of water sports to try, and the many hiking trails make it a great place to explore.

Top travel tips

As an island town, it's no surprise that the local shellfish and seafood is fresh and delicious. Make sure to try it during your stay.

Foodies will also enjoy a trip to the farmers’ market. There are several artisan chefs, a mix of cuisines and some fantastic jams to take home with you.

Artsy folk will love it here too. There are pottery exhibits, art galleries and more to explore. Find out more at the visitors’ center.

For a bit of whale watching and a peaceful vacation, there's no place better than Orcas Island. See it in all its glory by booking your ideal vacation rental on FlipKey today.

Sea Dream Cottage (All Dream Cottages) Spectacular Waterfront, Orcas Island, WA

Sea Dream Cottage is idyllic. Nicely appointed cottage with all glass front facing sunsets. Quiet. Private. We watched the tide ebb & flow, the changing light on the soft round-backed islands, the occasional loon or sea otter paddling past. We sat on the deck with a glass of wine, completely enchanted. Orcas has plenty of interesting sights and the best bookstore ever, but we were happy just to sit at Sea Dream and be beguiled by the island spell.see more
