Lochleven Seafood Cottage

Onich house

  • 4 bedrooms
  • 2 bathrooms
  • sleeps 8

“A holiday to remember!” We came to stay in Lochleven Seafood Cottage in april. There were ten of us staying, and we all instantly fell in love with the cottage as soon as we stepped inside. It was really clean and tidy, and well kept. The views of the loch were outstanding from the living room, and the bedrooms were very comfortable. The cottage was very well equipped, so there's no need to bring anything extra. The location of the cottage is also ideal, about twenty minute's drive from Glencoe and Fort William. We were able to travel to somewhere different everyday, but also enjoy some lovely walks and mountain treks just outside the cottage. The service for the cottage was also incredible - I texted the supervisors about a blocked drain and they instantly sent someone within the same morning. All in all a great holiday!

“A delightful haven on the beautiful Isle of Skye” This was our fifth family summer holiday to Skye and having had a disappointing cottage last year, we were keen to find a property that was as good as the one we had rented in previous years. The three of us were not disappointed by what we saw when opening the front door. The cottage was everything we could have wanted. It was clean, superbly furnished and had all the things necessary to make a holiday enjoyable. The views from the lounge were amazing. It was lovely to watch the changing scenery and wildlife from the comfort of a warm cottage. Both bedrooms were very comfortable and we liked having the two bathrooms between us. In previous years we have stayed in Broadford, so it was good to have a more central place from which to explore the island. We even managed to visit some new area's this time. The booking process was really efficient and queries were dealt with almost by return. The owners also rang us to check that everything was to our satisfaction, which was a nice touch. Comments in the visitors book were all very complimentary. Overall, a fantastic cottage, lovely hospitality and a great holiday. We will be booking shortly for next year.

Loch Ness Hideaways:- Rowan Cottage

Loch Ness Region log cabin

“A relaxed escape to the country” If you have never been to Loch Ness and the surrounding areas, Alex & Janet's little hideaway is absolutely perfect as a base. No detail was overlooked: directions, Welcome pack of biscuits & chocolates which our kids loved, Separated packs of information with walks and local interests, even dog treats they understand hospitality to the letter. A home from home you only need to bring some food or pop to Tesco/Asda which was a reasonable 20miles ish at Inverness. The location was perfect we were within reach of Inverness, Fort agustus and the Fall of Foyers, which was our primary visit, and on a clear night which we were lucky to have one the night sky is something to see. If you are a family looking for walks we found that the forestry commission walks were best as they were marked out by difficulty and colour coded posts throughout the chosen walk (avoids embarrassing moments of getting lost). For us it was a break to escape the typical 'busy' life and a chance to reconnect with each other as a family with some board games (take some) and country air.

“Fantastic accomodation in a beautiful location” The owners were extremely helpful in organising our weekend break. Gruinyards far exceeded our expectations, everything from the bottle of wine down to the candles in the bathroom were a lovely touch. The location was amazing and the website does not do justice to the view over the loch.

“Far from the Madding Crowd” Our time at Barmoor Ridge was filled with wonderful walks, beautiful scenery, lovely accommodation and helpfulness from the owners of the cottage. The cottage is ideally situated for: visits to the coast - picking our way over some of the best shores we have ever walked; treking over the Cheviot Hills with a wonderful backdrop of fields and woodlands; visiting the border towns of Scotalnd which offer so much charm; or for just lazing around, reading or having a nap in such lovely quiet surrounds, interrupted only by the odd tractor, bird song or the bleat of a lamb. The couple who own the property are very warm and friendly people. A welcome pack was there on arrival and had all the right things.

FEAGOUR, family friendly, country holiday cottage, with a garden in Laggan, Ref

Kinlochlaggan house

  • 2 bedrooms
  • 1 bathroom
  • sleeps 4

“Very good cottage, once you can find it” Feagour cottage is, as advertised, tucked away in a lovely secluded forest location. And that is its only problem: finding it! The owner's directions simply state turn left 3.5 miles from the a road junction: there's no helpful sign at the start of this anonymous forest access road, only those for Balfour-Beatty! Sykes helpfully give you a postcode centred on Kinlochlaggan, a few miles away and even more helpfully a grid reference for the postcode centre, not the cottage: what use is that? (And it's still incorrect on their site, despite feedback!!) For reference, the cottage is actually located at Nn571903 and smack bang on the east-west watershed. Once you track it down (only took a phone call, 30 min or so and 10 miles of extra driving...) it's a clean, cosy, quite spacious place, with a well-equipped kitchen, even if somewhat idiosyncratically. Between the heated porch/mudroom and superheated bathroom (underfloor) we found it great as a base for wintry walks on Speyside, as there was no trouble in drying our hiking gear overnight. Indeed, you can do 2 waymarked walks right from the door, one to the fascinating Pictish fort on the hill opposite and the other to an abandoned village site. For shopping we found the new Co-op in Newtonmore, 14 miles away on the route to aviemore, to be a good bet. Unsurprisingly, the little convenience store in Laggan is pricey in comparison. So in summary: best bits- warm, cosy and quiet; worst bit- finding it (but you only have to do that once!)

THE GRANARY, family friendly, luxury holiday cottage, with a garden in

Longframlington house

  • 2 bedrooms
  • 2 bathrooms
  • sleeps 4

“Best Holiday In Years!” The Granary is a cottage to fall in love with. From the moment you drive through the gates, to discovering and falling for this sumptuously appointed and spacious holiday home, to waving goodbye and wishing you didn't have to, I cannot rate it highly enough. For a couple or small family it is just superb and my fiance and I only wish we could have stayed there during the summer months to enjoy the patio etc fully. The bedrooms, kitchen and bathrooms particularly are as if brand new, simply stunning and near faultless, the 2 power showers excellent, although the shower cubicle base did fill up to the limit within about ten minutes for those who like me enjoy a longer shower! But the over bath shower next door was of the same type and did not suffer this minor problem. Great tiles, mirrors, lighting, heated towel rails, etc etc. Kitchen utility area and downstairs toilet beyond it are a real bonus and all so well presented you felt pampered. Fully equipped kitchen, only gripes were tin opener wasn't working and no egg cups, I defy you to find any others! The sunsets from the large kitchen cartwheel window were beautiful and provided some lovely snaps of my car. The plentiful books/crosswords/Dvds/CDs/games were a nice touch and added to our holiday, as did Hamish, the friendly doorstop dog! Comfy beds, although we found the 2 seater sofa of only average comfort, a bit slidey and needed a throw. Enjoyed the candles and woodburner and melting pleasantly even during the cold spell, plenty of wood and coal supplied for a week. Central heating superb although smoke alarm annoyingly activated whenever grilled anything. Lots of places to visit in all directions, Alnwick, Berwick, Morpeth, Rothbury, Coast, what more do you want? The owners were very cheerful and helpful although they were in process of moving out. We were greeted by the new owners who we also found friendly. Ah, the memories. Best holiday in years!!!

CARRIAGE HOUSE, family friendly, character holiday cottage, with a garden in

Coldstream house

“Great place, shame about the rain” We had a great week in Coldstream, the week of Flodden Field celebrations including torchlit procession and fireworks, lots of pipers, etc. Walks in the Hirsel Estate very calming and great trips around local towns and to the coast. A relatively easy drive to Edinburgh on our one sunny day. Facilities and layout very handy, especially for us - family of four with single friend who didn't need to be involved in all the squalor of family life. Rain among the most torrential we've ever seen and the river flooded at the end of the drive - all good fun as long as you don't get too hung up about it.

REIVER'S REST, pet friendly, character holiday cottage, with a garden in

Charlton house

“Home at Hesleyside” I can highly recommend Hesleyside Hall's Stable Block cottage. We stayed for a week and were very impressed with the quality of the accommodation and the friendliness of the Charlton family. The bedrooms had wonderfully comfortable beds and the decor was 'posh' country style, the lounge was windfall with comfy sofas and beautiful antique furniture including a huge dining table and the kitchen was small but everything you need is provided. In my opinion the only thing missing was a second toilet/bathroom - sleeping 6 this would have made mornings slightly slicker. Overall highly recommended.

THE BARN, pet friendly in Staffin, Isle Of Skye, Ref 5690

Staffin house

  • 1 bedroom
  • 1 bathroom
  • sleeps 3

“Fantastic Skye Cottage” The Barn is a wonderful cottage set in amazing scenery. The owner, John, was very helpful and endeavored to make sure we had enough peat for the fire (which was always fun to light). The cottage, recently converted, has all the amenities necessary to make a stay stress-free, and with a shop just a few feet away there is little chance of running out of the essentials. Skye has a multitude of attractions from its scenery to its wildlife and even the chance to go fossil hunting. A week is simply not enough time to explore the island and we intend to go back in the not too distant future. The only downside (albeit relatively minor) is that the cottages' location is not central so there is quite a bit of driving to be done, especially when visiting the south of the island.
