“August 2017”

Reviewed 24 Sep 2017

We stayed at la caltiere for the last three weeks of August. We had a really good holiday, the weather was really good to us which was great with having use of the private pool. The farm is clean, comfortable & spatious. It is tucked away on a quiet back road, but in easy reach of the local villages for bread & cheese. There are some fantastic local markets too ! This was our second stay, we would definitely go back a third time

We had a lovely stay at this very well equipped farmhouse with extensive grounds, swimming pool (very comfortable sun loungers) and lots of outdoor seating in various locations. Bikes, snooker, table tennis all provided should we have felt energetic! Charming surrounding villages to visit. Wifi excellent. Recommend for peace and tranquility and amazing star gazing.

“Beautiful Gite - but needs update and deep clean”

Reviewed 20 Aug 2016

We stayed at La Caltiere from 31/7 to 13/8 this year. the gite itself is lovely, the location is amazing and had everything we needed for 4 adults and two 15 yr old boys. The positives far outweigh the negatives - plenty of outside space, fresh linen on arrival and after 1 week, lots of crockery and cutlery, really good dishwasher and washing machine in the kitchen, 2 good shower rooms and space in the farmhouse itself. It was a little disappointing that after travelling for over 12 hours, we arrived late Saturday afternoon and had to the clean down the kitchen before we could put away our groceries. The freezer had not been cleaned out at all. The rest of the property was as clean as it could be - but to be honest, the whole place needs a really good deep clean and freshen up - not necessarily the fault of Maureen and Terry, the caretakers who do their best to help with any concerns. There are dusty, smelly old tapestries hung around the place, dusty wardrobes that we had to hoover out before putting clothes away, the lounge furniture is old and uncomfortable; there are bits of wood under the cushions as the springs have gone! The beds, although not uncomfortable are very creaky and it was a little disconcerting to find an old, dirty tee shirt stuffed down the side of the mattress when changing over the linen! The facilities advertised are great and were a major factor in us choosing this property as we had two teenagers to keep occupied. However, the photos are clearly old ones. The pool table is in a dirty, musty old barn with a dirty sofa for seating - the cues are all broken and tatty. As the lounger cushions are also stored here - it makes you not want to lay on them in the glorious sunshine. The bikes are not suitable for 4 adults to use - they are quite small, though use-able. The pool was kept clean by a very accommodating Terry, but the area surrounding it could benefit from a good jet-wash and weed - it wouldn't take much effort to make the area so much nicer and cleaner. The BBQ is allegedly a gas one - but someone had removed the ceramic coals and replaced them with charcoal - ridiculous on a gas burner. The oven breaking down 4 days before we were due to leave was not anyone's fault - a new one could not be delivered until the day we left, and Terry was very apologetic. The wooden stairs leading up to the master bedroom and twin bedroom are VERY steep and narrow, absolutely no good for older guests, or indeed young children - and this should be stated in the description in our opinion. We have holidayed in French properties as two families for over 25 years, together and separately. La Caltiere was definitely one of the nicest places we have visited in terms of location, but it was a shame that due to the farmhouse and facilities needing some TLC - it was only good when it could be amazing. All in all, we had a wonderful holiday, the weather was stunning, the local villages offer great shopping facilities and some great Auberges for tasty, local food. Bigger supermarkets are not far to stock up on food, wine and beer and all reasonably priced. If the farmhouse was cleaned thoroughly and the furniture updated, it would be just perfect. Response from the owner Thanks for your comments. As soon as you alerted us , a new cooker was installed unfortunately on the day that you left. Maureen and Terry work very hard to keep this old property clean and tidy and we will review the furniture which is " in keeping" with the house. The pool area will be revamped for 2017.
