Description from owner

Description

I'm renting my villa in the village of Koundouros on the island of Kea (less than two hours from Athens).

Overlooking the Bay of Koundouros (in my perspective, one of the most beautiful of the Cyclades) the house dates from the mid 80's and was renovated in 2011 and 2012. It has four bedrooms, two large, one with en suite, one with its own terrace. In addition to the first double bedroom you'll find on the ground floor a large room divided into a common room (or dining room), a kitchen and a living room (with sea view). On the first floor are three further bedrooms (two double bedrooms, and one with twin beds), a second bathroom and another living room with a balcony. The house is fully equipped (refrigerator, freezer, hob, oven, dishwasher, washing machine, wifi, iPod system, DVD player, air conditioning in all rooms), has quite simple furnishings and a upscale Cocomat bedding.

On the front of the house, a terrace is opened to a wonderful sea view, and extends up to a beautiful garden. This terrace also has, under a pergola, a first outdoor lounge and a summer kitchen (barbecue and pizza oven).

The rear portion is in turn occupied by another terrace of 250 m² ending with an infinity pool, also with a wonderful sea view (hydro-massage and counter-current in the pool). The terrace is partly covered with a large pergola, and provides a bar, two others lounges and outdoor games for children (ping-pong and basketball).

Below the villa you'll find the first beach of Koundouros. Ideal for children, forming a natural pool almost always sheltered from the wind, a bar-restaurant was established there (named Porto Koundouros, you can check some nice pictures on their website). It is part of the twenty beaches in the Cyclades which were able to obtain the eco-label "blue flag" (which sets standards for cleanliness and water quality).

The second small beach, a few hundred yards away, on the other hand has a small naval base offering skiing and buoys.

For those who do not know the island of Kea, it is the first island of the Cyclades located an hour's ferry ride from Lavrio, south of Attica.

Preserved for the time of mass tourism, frequented mainly on weekends and August by the Athenians, there is condensed into what Greece has much to offer to tourists: beaches and coves with clear water, typical villages looking just like postcards (you must see Vourkari, small marina and fishing port, or Ioulis the central village perched on the mountain), many taverns where you can eat very well or simply pass time at the water's edge, a cultural life punctuated by the summer festivals, a dense network of hiking trails, especially nice in the green of spring or fall, ancient places to discover with the soul of an archaeologist (do not miss the walk to Karthea), some remains of Venetian architecture, dozens of churches, rural life preserved and local products, neither too much nor too little craft shops, a wilderness swept by winds (much of the east of the island is classified as natural park), magnificent views (on a clear day you can see from the heights a large part of the Cyclades), and of course people particularly pleasant, total absence of crime and the sun half of the year. You will also avoid the worst: no big resorts where travelers will never see more from Greece than the pool, their couch and the restaurant, no crowded and dirty beaches, no nightclubs crammed disseminating their unbearable music till morning ...

For whom has the courage it is an excellent base for day trips to Athens and Attica. And for who'll have this opportunity, a perfect departure port for cruises to the Cyclades or even to the Saronic.

For more information on Kea you can check the online guide "Greek Travel" or the official website of the island of Kea.
