Description
Country Cottage set in its own large garden In an idyllic and peaceful location with beautiful views. It is 200 metres from La Baleine which is situated near Gavray in the Manche area of Normandy.
We have been fully booked every year for 17 years, with a lot of our lovely guests returning.
A brand new kitchen was completed for 2015.
There is a first class restaurant within 5 minutes walk.. 200 metres and you will be walking through the woods by the river Seine.
The market town of Gavray is 5 minutes drive and has a choice of restaurants, supermarket, several patisseries, banks, pharmacy plus other shops.
Superb countryside, within easy reach of beaches and other major places of interest In Normandy such as the D-Day Landing Beaches, the War Cemeteries, Mont St Michel, and the Bayeux Tapestry.
Villedieu les Poeles the famous copper town, is 20 minutes drive from us. Here the Bell Foundry is worth a visit, they made the last new bell for Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. One can also get a train direct to Paris in two hours 45 minutes.
A 20 minute drive and you will find Granville which commands a stunning view of the Bay of the Mont Saint-Michel from its fortified headland. Enjoy this invigorating resort’s wonderful array of ports, quarters and beaches, plus its museums, one devoted to local genius Christian Dior.
Ferries from Granville serve the magical Chausey Islands archipelago, like a mirage 15km out to sea, plus the Channel Islands.
Its a very busy fishing port so you will be spoilt for choice with fish restaurants all around the Habour and the Marina.
A visit to Coutances is a must, cobbled streets, little shops and restaurants and of course the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Coutances. Its a Gothic Roman Catholic cathedral constructed from 1210 to 1274. It incorporated the remains of an earlier Norman cathedral. Standing 80 metres tall, it dominates the town and can be seen from as far away as the island of Jersey. It is a classic example of the Gothic style of Normandy in its use of long, straight, vertical lines. The stained glass windows are stunning.
If you like to visit gardens there is a magnificent garden by the Museum, across the road from the Cathedral.
During the 2nd World War 97% of St. Lo was destroyed. You can reach the town within a 35 minute drive.
With its media library, fine art and Norman Hedged Farmland museums; its design and music schools; its Theatre the ‘Normandy’ - a reputed contemporary music centre (10,000 visitors per year) - Saint Lô targets excellence, with access for all.
St. Lo has the largest of the 23 national stud farms. This stud specialises in the Normandy cob, the trotting horse and the French saddle horse. There are eight stable blocks around the central courtyard, which house some 40 stallions from seven different breeds or types. It is open to the public. The World Equestrian Championships was held here recently.
Worth a visit is the Parish Church of Notre Dame of St. Lo. It was bombed extensively during the second world war and sustained massive damages, Over the years parts of the church have been restored the rest left as it was. It makes you appreciate just what happened to a small town during the war.
The sandy beaches of the west coast are 20 minutes drive and they go for miles and miles, virtually untouched by tourism, unlike those of the UK. A lovely place to relax and have a swim in a peaceful location.
Easily reached by ferry from Cherbourg or Caen. Nearest International airport is at Caen. Paris is 2 3/4 hours by direct train.
Channel Tunnel is 4 hours drive. Le Havre is 2 hours drive.
