“Villa Bahri - Paradise” Villa Bahri is quite an oasis of tranquility. Nestled on a quiet street amid fields on the west bank of the Nile,the private garden is lovely and you can while away the hours if you like in the garden or on the private balconies. The interior is stylish and clean. Every modern convenience is available. Yasmina and ahmed gave us the run of the place and started by 'welcome home' and indeed we felt at home. Mohammed worried about our every need and loves to visit. He took one of us on a motorcycle ride. Mahmoud will drive you wherever you wish to go. They will provide any touring that you need, or let you relax and do your own thing. The villa is just a short walk to restaurants, shops, bicycle rental, the ferry, a great pastry shop, and most of all- really most of all, a wonderfully friendly neighborhood of kind and generous people. A week is hardly enough; some of our 'site touring' plans got thrown out the window to make room for our new neighborhood friend's hospitality. You can't go wrong with Villa Bahri. Thanks Yasmina, Ahmed, Mohamed, and Mahmoud!

A relaxed break in Luxor's rural west bank

I traveled with my father to the Goubli apartments for Christmas and New Year,over a two week period and we had a lovely time. The apartment we stayed in was huge, with three bedrooms, one en suite, a huge kitchen and two terraces with views over the surrounding cultivated land. The roof terrace provided all-day sunshine and even better views. We ate out a lot and cooked for ourselves but we also took advantage of the ability to book in the morning for dinner in the evening, prepared on demand by the resident chef. The food was excellent. The in-house staff speak some English and are very helpful. There is a big fridge in the foyer full of beer and water which you can help yourself to and sign for, to be paid for at the end. There is wi-fi in the foyer. If you need a taxi you can phone the proprietor, Jane, and she will arrange one. This works too for the trips to local sites and monuments. The walk to the ferry is around half an hour along good roads/tracks. Getting back via taxi is more complicated as most drivers don't know where it is (there are no road names on the West Bank) but we very much enjoyed the ferry and the walk. It was particularly nice to be away from the bustle of Luxor's main town. Tours are easy to arrange the proprietor who will sort out anything from car tours to aswan and elsewhere or boat trips, public or private. The proprietor, and English lady married to an Egyptian, has contacts everywhere which proved to be very useful. We had a great time and would recommend it to others if you like the peace and quiet, don't need shops and restaurants on your doorstep and don't mind a walk to the ferry or a taxi drive via the bridge to get in to Luxor. … see more
DAHABIYA PRINCESS DONIA - Nile Cruise
out of this world experience

we had a 5 day cruise on the Princess Donia from Louxor to aswan. The boat is magnificient, incredibly comfortable and clean and the crew are the nicest people you can imagine. They know the Nile better than anyone, willing to go the extra mile for us, as for example setting up a gala diner in front of a temple on a beach where we really felt we owned the world. The food is delicious and very varied. We were there with 3 children from 6 to 10 and the crew were absolutely adorable and very patient. Could not recommend anything more than this. … see more

Luxor - relaxed with the locals

This was our best weeks holiday. The accommodation was clean and comfortable, with lovely spaces to relax inside and in the garden eg. breakfast on the patio with the music calls of Nile Songbirds. A peaceful location in the middle of the real Luxor - away from the tourist trappings, but conveniently placed for all the sites, and some superb local restaurants. Yasmina and ahmed were fantastic hosts - able to give local advice on any plans and helped us to see fantastic sites missed by the tour operators. Also helped us to get good service and value on boat trips, camel rides - if it happens in or around Luxor, Ahmed can sort it!
