Response from the owner Thank you for reviewing us and for your feed back . We are glad you enjoyed our home and the service we provided you . We are sorry you found Manoir du Bocage too isolated , which may be the main reason you rated us "3 bubbles " on 5. I need to bring to your attention , that among many distinctions we received through the years , one is " Gites pleine Nature " , given to prime properties offering privacy , quietness and a kind of the end of the world , which all informations are disclosed on the advert and documents provided by Gites de France or ourselves . Once again I m sorry Manoir du Bocage did not reach your expectations in terms of location , and trust you enjoyed with your family your long week end by us .

Response from the owner Thank you for your comments and feed back. Regarding WIFI : we put up recently extenders to improve coverage in the house. “Our time at Le Manoir du Bocage”

Reviewed 13 Aug 2015

We booked the Manoir for 1 week. Gites de France were very efficient and the owner was very helpful and replied promptly by e-mail when I had some questions. It can be difficult to find but thanks to previous entries on trip advisor and a look at google earth we found it without a hitch. It is worth putting your sat nav to 1/2 mile setting and "le bocage" appears on the map. Madame Annie Chaumont was very helpful. She was available if needed but did not bother us for the week. She recommended the local market day on Monday in St Piere sur dives which was well worth it. She also recommended a local vet in Orbec so we could book our dog in for his return pet passport to be stamped after worming. Be warned the vet is in the centre of Orbec next to the DIA supermarket but the sat nav will take you to an out of town industrial estate with the same name! The Manoir is a beautiful house with amazing oriental furniture, beautiful paintings and African works. It is full of character. It is very quiet there which was exactly what we wanted. Yet it is easy to get to Honfleur , Deauville or Lisieux for example. It is a lived in house so if you are looking for boutique style accommodation it is not for you. However if you enjoy a genuine 17th century manoir with all the character of that then you will love it. We certainly did. The kitchen is well equipped and the bedrooms are beautiful. There is a bbq outside and patio furniture and parasols. We would happily return there again.

“Beautiful house and grounds”

Reviewed 30 Dec 2014

The house sleeps 10 comfortably. We last stayed here in 2007 and little had changed. The character of the property is lovely and we were amazed that it offered more than we expected, English TV on a large TV in the front room and TVs in all bedrooms. There is a completely separate wing for those members of the family that drive you mad!!! The real fire in the front room is amazing ( extra charges for wood), although the house is centrally heated - the atmosphere is gives is worth it. The main bedroom has a four poster bed with a jacuzzi en suite bathroom which is fantastic! Each main bedroom has an en-suite for privacy. My husband loves fishing - the lake in the garden has one fish that he found- it was a little limp but he managed to get it to swim away (it definitely didn't have enough life in it to eat the maggots he bought). Annie who looks after the property is lovely, although lacks a vast amount of English - just enough to get by, and she leaves you completely alone unless you ring her. One word of warning - the property is worth the rental but you have to give 600 euros as a deposit - fair enough - but there is additional costs of 202 euros for heating - approx 50 euros for wood and 80 euros for cleaning - so don't expect all of you deposit back. The supermarket we would recommend is in Liseux - about a 20 min drive away it has everything you could possibly need. Honfleur is a beautiful little seaside town with a vast amount of restaurants and shops to choose from. St Julienne golf course which is near Honfleur is well worth a visit for the golfers.

Response from the owner Thank you for comments and staying by us . About extra charges : they are clearly showing on websites where property is advertised . Charges are for electricity and heating and don t apply only in july and august. Wood : you will be charged according your consumption Cleaning on departure : euro 87 , is optional as you welcome not to take it but will have to leave property like you found it . We always try to make additional costs clear when we quote you or answer enquiries , as we believe that misunderstandings or "cheating " clients would be bad behaviour from us . We love our home , and want to stay proud to open it to people visiting us from all over the world

“A holiday location with the 'Wow factor'.”

Reviewed 28 Aug 2014

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday at the Manoir du Bocage in the Calvados region of Normandy. Although our extended family was made up of 8 adults, two teenagers and a baby, the manior provided plenty of room for us all to live in comfort. The manior has excellent facilities, is beautifully decorated and has extensive grounds. It is tucked away down a small lane a short drive from the nearest village which makes for a peaceful break. It was a bonus that the 'Roger Groult' Calvados distillery was just a 15 minute walk from the Manoir providing a very interesting tour of the distillery with a tasting at the end. The owner Philippe and Annie the caretaker are a pleasure to deal with. We could not fault the Manoir but have two small criticism's of the holiday package. One of the web sites quoted that the Manoir had bikes but with no reference to them being hire bikes (50 euros per week). Also, when we stayed at the Manoir the weather became cooler, especially in the evening. We asked how we start the heating system at night and were told that it could only be activated when the temperature went below a cerrtain level. We lit a fire on a couple of cold evenings and were charged 10 euros at the end of our stay for the firewood. We just thought this was a bit 'penny pinching'. We would also like to suggest that it would be helpful to have the Manoir's name somewhere near the gates to help future visitors know they have reached their destination. Thank you for a great stay.

Response from the owner Thank you for your comments and want to say that we do not hire bicycles any more, unfortunately certain websites carry on giving old non relevant information . Unfortunately yes we have to invoice our customers for wood used as we pay for wood our self to get it cut and delivered . Best .

Lovely old French manor house with huge gardens. Had a great week staying in this rustic house. If mod cons are your thing not the house for you. If an authentic stay in a French manor is what you are looking for this is the place to come. Amazing fireplace in living room. Close to Cerza zoo and honfleur/ Deaville which were all great trips. Look out for the rain in Normandy in May we had quite a lot!
