You will love staying at this serene beach house with spectacular views of the ocean, amazing sunsets, a fully-equipped kitchen -- including a new range, refrigerator & microwave -- and access to a gated private beach with level parking!
The home is new to this site but we are experienced hosts. I'll happily provide multiple reviews from recent guests with their contact information so you can be sure what you're getting.
Located on the beautiful Northern California coast between the historic town of Mendocino (30 miles/48 km North) and the artist community of Gualala (20 miles/32 km South), this extraordinary 2-bath, 3-bedroom retreat -- all on one level – allows you to experience incredible Pacific Ocean views from virtually every room. See Point Arena Light House, open meadows filled with wildlife, and magical sunsets. Designed by a well-known artist, the home features multiple pieces of his original artwork below cathedral ceilings.
Bring food and drink to create a special recipe in the well-equipped kitchen which features new appliances, including a refrigerator, microwave, and range with a convection oven. Enjoy a meal in the adjoining dining area with an ocean view.
The master and second bedrooms are in separate wings of the house, ensuring privacy whenever you want it. The master opens to a deck with ocean views, has a king bed, a reading area, and ample closet space. The expansive master bath offers a huge two-person all tile shower. A second bedroom has ocean views, a king bed (can be configured as two twins), many shelves of books, and a large closet. The second bathroom is next door and features a deep infinity tub/shower with fantastic ocean views.
A third bedroom/office has a queen futon, a desk & printer, and a full wall of closet space.
We welcome children, but the home is not childproofed and some original artwork features tasteful female nudes.
The large, comfortable living room overlooks the ocean, has mid-century modern furniture, a wood-burning fireplace, board games, and CD/DVD player. There is no television service but you're welcome to bring your own DVDs or select from our library.
Take an easy drive up the coast to Mendocino and Fort Bragg or south to the Point Arena light house. Enjoy the sounds of breaking waves, see migrating whales, walk or drive to the private 8-mile beach or Pomo Lake, visit Anderson Valley wineries, sample fare at remarkable restaurants & bakeries. Or do nothing...just relax.
Forget something? No worries! A well-stocked grocery store is located in Manchester, 4 miles/6.5 km south. Want a little excitement? Visit the casino/restaurant, tour the lighthouse, or take in a movie in the town of Point Arena, 8 miles/13 km south.
Come visit, we'd love to hear from you!
A few notes:
Guests have access to all areas of the house, deck, and garage with the exception of two locked storage areas.
I touch base with guests by email, text or phone several days prior to arrival to answer questions, provide additional information on the house, and see if they have any special requests. I like to be at the home to greet guests if at all possible, but I head home after getting everyone settled.
Left on 04/14/2014 for a stay in April 2014 | Jim R
We stayed at the artist Retreat for a three day weekend in april to celebrate my wife's birthday.
The artist House has a warm, welcoming feel. It is comfortable and inviting with open wood beam ceilings and decorated with original artwork throughout.
The views are beautiful, especially the eight miles of sandy beach from Irish Beach to the Point arena Light House to the South.
Deer and hummingbirds were frequent guests and can be seen in the front and side yards, we even saw a bunny.
The sunken living room adds charm and depth. It is a great place to relax, look out over the ocean and enjoy the fireplace. A pair of oversized swivel chairs and a round table call to you from the corner window to sit and overlook the beach. There is a pair of binoculars on the bookcase if you want to look for migrating whales.
The dining room table is ready for six place settings with a candle chandelier. This window has an observation area complete with an astromaster telescope powerful enough to see the moon in detail.
We enjoyed cooking together and the kitchen has plenty of counter space, appliances and utensils for us to use.
The deck had two chairs, a table, flower boxes and awesome views, it was a perfect place for a cup of coffee or glass of wine.
The Master is roomy and has a comfortable bed with views of the ocean from the sliding glass doors that open out to the deck. The huge bathroom has a large two person tiled shower with dual shower heads.
Karla is responsive, easy to communicate with and it was a pleasure to book with her. We love her house by the sea and look forward to staying there again.
The S & B Market about four miles south in Manchester has everything.
The drive along the Sonoma, Mendocino coast is amazingly beautiful.
Be sure to visit the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens.
