About Manzanita

Manzanita first became a beach resort in 1912, taking its name from the Manzanita (‘Little Apple’) plants growing in the area. Over the last 100 years, people have come from far and wide to climb the Neahkahnie Mountain in search of treasure that was supposedly buried there by 16th century Spaniards – some have even died.

As you’d expect from a beach resort, fresh seafood is on almost every restaurant menu, with salmon and crab popular choices – the fish tacos and clam chowder are excellent too! Organic local produce is around every corner, with many local restaurants offering a ‘farm-to-table’ experience. But you’ll also find cuisine from around the world, with Mexican, pizza and ice cream available; most restaurants are family-friendly and offer kids menus and portions.

What to do

Whether you’re into hiking, biking, swimming or surfing, Oswald West State Park is a great place to take the family. This 2,500-acre park has plenty of trails and beautiful beaches where you can relax and unwind, or head for Nehalem Bay State Park with its forested bike paths and opportunities for kayaking and fishing. Get your hiking boots on and hike to the top of Neahkahnie Mountain; you may not find the treasure that’s buried here but you will hit the jackpot when it comes to stunning 360-degree views over the resort and surrounding area.

Shopping at Manzanita Farmers Market is a must for fresh produce. Every Friday, from June to September, you can enjoy live music, food samples and a range of handmade products.

Take a trip to Nehalem Bay Winery to enjoy a guided tour and the chance to taste some locally-produced wine.
