Description

The Wishing Towers is a Beautiful Victorian Building with the original Copper Turrets. The recently refurbished apartment extends over two floors and boasts a large roof terrace which offers panoramic sea views. Breath taking views from the large living area and one of the turreted bedrooms and of course the roof terrace.

Cliftonville is part of the 26 miles of Thanet coastline, with a choice of golden sandy beaches, live entertainment and plenty of activities, including walking, cycling, golf and watersports.
With the opening of the Turner Contemporary in Margate, other quaint coffee bars, restaurants and shops have been popping up in the old town.
Ramsgate also offers beautiful harbouside haunts along with the nearby broadstairs, home to charles dickens and the famous august folk week.

Whether you want and old fashioned beach holiday, a base for day trips, a cultural experience or simply somewhere to unwind and let the sea air revive you, then a stay at this apartment has it all.

Response from the owner The apartment of Suzy Nina is actually even more beautiful than the pictures can show! Extremely tasteful and lovingly furnished, polygonal rooms with fantastic views of the sea and over the roofs of the houses. (Especially nice: if you look from the living room window looking ships over the roofs ;-)) The apartment is very spacious and offers enough space, generous, cozy beds, a sufficiently equipped kitchen (a small kitchen knife to cut vegetables was missing us very much , that would be really great!), not to mention the large, with many furniture and flowers equipped roof terrace, which offers an additional room with wonderful sea views. It is particularly pleasant to be on the beach within 2 minutes on foot, where there is a really big, independent from the tides swimming. Susy Nina herself is a very friendly, courteous landlady who was always approachable for tips and advice and action. If we want to go back to Margate, we will definitely inquire first for the Wishing Towers! Thanks, Suzy Nina! Thank you for your lovely review - you are most welcome anytime to call me back - kitchen knife noted - will pick one up

“A rooftop paradise”

Reviewed 23 Aug 2016

We were blessed with the most gorgeous weather for our two week stay. The property itself genuinely felt like home and 'Up on the Roof' became the signature tune for me as, in the evening, when kids finally dozed off, bronzed by the sun and as carefree as the sea, I was able to watch the stars from the roof terrace. A bit windy some nights up there but a beautiful scene with the copper turrets, neighbouring church and crescent moon. The decor is outstanding with wonderful views in the living space and upstairs bedrooms, so even when indoors one can see the boats on the sea and watch the seagulls swoop. Open plan living space is ideal for family, so I could cook and keep an eye on kids at the same time. I agree that a light for night time would be helpful on the stairs but we managed without a problem, also some small light for the roof terrace at night would be helpful. There was some noise from cars at night but that was mainly at a weekend as young folk were out enjoying themselves. A big van was parked in the flat's parking space for first week, but disappeared afterwards. I did not bring a car but had visitors who came for a day trip and they parked on the roadside without trouble. I found a launderette with reasonable prices on Northdown road (Margate end) as there is no machine in the flat. I didn't mind this as I didn't come on holiday to do the washing too! The area is better in my opinion than closer to Margate, quieter with good bus links on Northdown road to Broadstsirs, Ramsgate, Margate and the 'breeze' number 8 takes you all the way to Canterbury if you fancy. Further down Northdown road towards Margate the area seems to deteriorate but that is quite a long walk away, at least ten to fifteen minutes, and the flat is in a much nicer area with some impressive housing just over the road. I found neighbours friendly and accommodating and met some interesting local people at the palm bay cafe 2 minutes walk away. The cafe overlooks the sea with plenty of seating, yummy milkshakes and very nice clientele. On Northdown road there is a gem of a patisserie with real croissants, cream cakes and chocolate torte, not forgetting our favourite spelt and honey loaf! We got fresh towels weekly and a change of bed linen and a Henry hoover meant it was possible to clear up any crumbs left by the kids in a jiffy. My only worry were the windows without safety catches but I was very strict with the kids about it and thankfully they stayed away from any open window, but it would keep parents' minds at rest if some were installed. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, from the crab fishing by the local tidal pool (we caught loads along with shrimp too) to ice-cream at the cafe while watching the jet skiers race across the bay. A bit seaweedy along the nearest beach but a fifteen minute walk along the coast to Margate or another twenty minutes the other way past foreland and along the cliff to the lovely Botany Bay for less seaweed and more sand. Loved it, the Thanet area is well worth a visit and I am sure we will be back as the kids will never forget the property or the freedom with which they enjoyed the coastline.

Response from the owner Many thanks for your review - I'm so pleased you had a great time - now the apartment is empty we can ge ready for the new rentals and correct all of the lighting issues. There is actually a small key by the key rack in the kitchen for the window locks but will get more cut for the upstairs. Thank you again.

“Needs changes made”

Reviewed 10 Aug 2016

The Wishing Towers was lovely and 'airy' but by evening it got quite dark and the main light in the living room didn't seem to be working and there were lamps throughout with either no bulb/ no working bulb or no socket near. We had to use the bright, twin glassed lamps from the living room to put in the hall at night as the stairs were pitch black and my husband had already tripped over the stairgate and bumped his head. That stairwell really needs a light, even if it's just one of those that come on when it senses movement. We were disappointed to have been told that there would be an off road parking space for us only to find that by Tuesday we could not use the space due to someone's massive van being parked there. Our 3 children all have varying levels of autism and it would have made things a lot easier than keep parking on the road, which was quite busy at times. The windows were large and opened far too wide, maybe a safety device could be fitted to the windows so they only open a certain amount? The other little 'niggle' we had is that there was so much of the owners own taste put into the apartment it didn't really feel like a holiday apartment it felt as if they'd just gone away for a while and left us the keys to water the plants. The coffee table was cluttered with 49 'interior design' magazines that I thought was a little overkill. When I got back home I realised I had got an email from the owner telling me about the key code etc...the email was sent 2 days after we arrived on holiday, so communication wasn't great. The area itself was run down and Saturday night was horrendous due to youths car cruising from 8pm - 2am up and down the beach pathway. Car definitely needed as nothing else in the area other than the lido which could do with a good clean. My daughter foundnappies in it. Would not use this apartment again due to these issues.

Response from the owner I'm so sorry for your experience at The Wishing Towers. It is rare that we have a review like this. I do live in the property and it is my home so apologies if this was not suitable for you. It is rare that screaming cars drive up and down all night long - an unlucky night it seems. I have taken note of your comment on the stairs lighting and will get this rectified. Many thanks for your comments they are always helpful
