Description

This is a quaint and cosy traditional thatched cottage with log burning stove and loads of character. It is more than 300 years old, is Grade 2 listed, has many quaint features such as a traditional Norfolk inglenook fireplace. It is on the edge of a conservation area and is opposite the medieval parish church which can be seen from the principal bedroom window.

It is within a mile of the Norfolk Broads, and is ideally located for visits to and walks around the Broads. It is three miles from the sandy beaches at Winterton. It is well pocated for visits to all the attractions in the Broads area.

Getting around

It is usually easiest to have a car to reach local sites. However, we have one set of friends who regularly stay at our cottage who don't have a car and take the coach or train to Great Yarmouth and use the no. 1 hourly bus from Great Yarmouth that comes past our cottage and use the bus stop 50 metres from the cottage. (The 1A bus is also available hourly from Great Yarmouth, but takes a different route into the village and can drop you in the village centre, but doesn't come past the cottage). The hourly no 1 Bus can also take you to Winterton for the beach on its way back to Great Yarmouth, from which it is an 800 mere walk to the beach itself.

Interaction with guest

We do not live in the area, and we rely on guests accessing the keys themselves from a Masterlock box at the rear of the cottage to which we provide the access code after the final payment is made. Our cleaners live in the next village and are available for any immediate needs, and we have a maintenance man who is very good and will come out to any urgent needs. We have yet to face a problem that we have been unable to resolve through local staff.

House rules

The cottage has very steep stairs, and it is important to ensure that the upstairs bedroom doors are properly shut to ensure that small children cannot fall down the stairs.

Dogs are permitted as long as they remain downstairs. The rear garden is now secure, with a one metre high picket fence to the rear, and higher fences on the sides.

No smoking is allowed inside the cottage or in the garden. Please use the back lane. This is because it is a thatched property and is an insurance requirement.

“home from home”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2021

we had an amazing stay. The cottage is cozy but larger than expected. It is well equipped with everything you need. Location is great. You can drive to the surrounding beaches and villages for walks within minutes. Communication with the owner was great and lots of tips were given. Would definitely stay again.

Response from the owner Thanks Becca, and its far comment about the log-burner. We hope to have it resolved at the end of June 2017, but it is a rather big complex job involving the conservation officer.

Response from the owner Thank you for your kind comments. You were great guests. Water heating heats for an hour, so just push the button again. I'll change the note that implies it'll provide enough for a day. Might be true for a couple, but not for a family, and the cottage is large enough for a young family.
