Lovely apartment in Maubec with private heated pool, enclosed gardens and WiFi sleeps 4/6

L'Oustalado is a light and spacious apartment with the entrance being reached by a short stairway to the side of the building which leads on to a balcony. The accommodation is on the first floor and comprises two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other twin beds, a large lounge/dining room, kitchen, shower room and separate toilet. All rooms have lovely views of the Luberon or of the old village of Maubec.

The property has a beautiful south facing secluded garden which has a shady al fresco eating area as well as a private swimming pool which is kept at a comfortable 26-27˚C throughout the season. The garden is secure making it difficult for pets and children to wander off and also has parking for up to two cars.

The kitchen is equipped with an oven with gas and electric hob, a washer/dryer, dishwasher and a good size fridge/freezer plus coffee machine, kettle and microwave. All cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils and glassware are provided as well as bed linen and towels and there is an iron and ironing board.

There is wireless broadband throughout the property and the living area has a TV with French terrestrial and UK internet channels, a DVD player and a combined CD and radio with USB and Bluetooth connectivity for playing your own music. There are shutters on all windows to keep the house cool in summer and also a woodburning stove in the living area along with electric radiators for the winter.

Although we feel that the property is ideally suited for 4 people there is a double sofa bed in the lounge which can be used if required to accommodate a further 2 people.

We also have a travel cot at the property that visitors with young children are welcome to use.

The property is located at the edge of the old town of Maubec and is two minutes walk from the woods of the Luberon making it perfectly situated for a walking or cycling holiday with cycle routes and treks being located close by. There are two delightful restaurants, a bar, two bakeries and a shop within ten minutes walk and nearby Coustellet has a wonderful farmers market every Sunday where, amongst other things, local farm produce can be purchased.

“Partly lovely, partly disappointing.”

There were many good things about this property, which I will deal with first. The garden is delightful with a lovely pool, well looked after by an extremely helpful young man. Also very secure with both garden gates lockable. Incidentally, we found the old dog living opposite came in if the small garden gate wasn't locked! When the weather changed, it was rather too shady, but in the height of summer I'm sure the shade is needed! We never saw the gardener, but leaves were all round the lovely seating area under the pergola and it did look very untidy., but nevertheless it was very pretty. The outside furniture was excellent and very comfortable. The apartment was simply, but well furnished, with good bedlinen and towels. As we saw the maid on arrival, we asked for the twin beds to be made up. This should be done automatically as one is still paying the full amount! The woods and lovely walks are close by, and Maubec is well situated for visiting the enchanting hilltop villages nearby. Now the the downside - the kitchen and main bedroom overlook the garden of the apartment below and it really is a ramshackle sight sadly, with plastic Snow White and 5 dwarves, several pallets, a large empty oil drum for bonfires (only 1 when we arrived!), a delapidated bird cage and 3 dogs, who were quiet until 1 was left out at night!, every night! The people below were quiet until 1 went to work at around 6.00am! We found the instructions for the T.V. very confusing and the agents wouldn't come to show us as they said the owner wouldn't pay for their time! We have never found this problem before in the many properties we have rented, only agents too willing to help! The campsite across the road is well-screened from the property and there was no noise during our visit.

Response from the owner Thanks for your feedback, we are glad that you found the garden lovely and secure and that in general you found the apartment in good order, we do appreciate feedback from our guests and do our best to address any issues that they find. I was bit surprised that final two lettings of the season had mentioned the garden below as no-one has found it a problem over the previous 2 years, when we got to the apartment ourselves however we did find that the small curtains in the kitchen (as per the photograph) had been removed by someone and the garden was now more obvious whereas previously it had not been very conspicuous, (the bird cage did go while we were there by the way). We have now replaced the curtains in the kitchen and also added some to the rear bedroom this does put the downstairs garden out of sight. Unfortunately we do not have any control over the neighbours garden although they have only just moved in and have themselves told me that it is on their list of things to do! I agree with the beds and we were under the impression that they were all being made up, this has now been addressed and they will all be made up in future.
