Description

The apartment is a large duplex apartment situated in the historic, picturesque perched village called Peillon. Peillon is featured in a coffee table book entitled '50 of the most beautiful villages in France', and it lives up to the title. Perched like an eagles nest on top of sheer rocky mountains it is a feat of engineering that has seen human occupancy since pre historic times. Just 13km from Nice it sits at 376 metres above sea level overlooking the Paillon valleys.

The apartment is situated right in the heart of this peaceful village, with its thick stone walls, curving arches and breathtaking views. The traditional exterior belies the large open space inside the apartment that comfortably accommodates a family or group of friends.

The first floor is given over to kitchen, dining, living area with a large dining table and open fireplace. This is also where the second bedroom with twin beds is situated along with an office/den area with a sofabed. Shuttered windows open onto the village and the valley.

The second-floor features a master suite with jetted tub, separate shower, double sinks, and a balcony from which the lights of Nice can be seen at night. The balcony terrace has a separate entrance from the bedroom so it can be enjoyed by all the guests. It's a sun trap, has dining table and chairs

and is the perfect spot to watch the sun go down and the lights of Nice twinkling.

The kitchen has all mod cons: dishwasher, large refrigerator, coffee makers, microwave, oven, and stove-top and is fully equipped with cookware and dinnerware. The home also comes equipped with a washer and dryer, which are located in a separate 'cave.'

The drive to Peillon from the airport is 30 or 40 minutes and the distance to central Nice is 13km and easily accessed by car or local train. A twisty road winds up to this perched marvel and ends in a village parking area with fountain. The village is all pedestrainised and one must walk up a cobblestone path into the village and to the home. The location is quiet and peaceful -- there is very little commercial activity in Peillon. The only establishments are a restaurant -- Les Plaisirs -- and an inn, with restaurant, called L'Auberge de la Madonne.

The home is best suited to people who are looking for a holiday that combines quiet time with hikes up into the mountain, day trips, and rock-climbing. Another village, called Peille, is a 2-hour hike away; a trip to Peille for lunch makes for a wonderful day.

From Peillon, a variety of trips is possible, including into Nice, where one may catch a train for day trips into Italy and elsewhere. Monaco, Monte Carlo, Cannes, Eze, Cap d'Antibes, St. Paul de Vence are all close by. Trips further out are possible within a day: Arles, Moustiers Sainte-Marie and the Gorges du Verdon, any number of vineyards, the Alps, the Var, Marseille. The beaches at St. Raphael are fantastic. Antibes, where Marineland is located, is a doable day trip for those with kids
