Description

The Cockle Shell is a surprisingly spacious holiday let opposite a well known local beauty spot popular with artists, photographers and bird watchers. It also benefits from being in the heart of the village of Penclawdd, North Gower. There is plenty of free parking opposite with room for all size vehicles. Within easy access of award winning beaches, castles and holiday activities including cycling and walking. The area is particularly popular with surfers.

Penclawdd is a traditional Welsh Village famous for its cockle shell industry which dates back to Roman times and is still thriving to this day. Samples of the local cockles can be purchased in the village alongside other local goods such as lava bread and salt marsh lamb.

There are lots of amenities nearby including a fish and chip shop, surf shop, gym, chemist, 5 Star Cafe and large supermarket, hairdressers, Doctors Surgery literally minutes away.

There is a partial view of the Estuary from The Cockle Shell which overlooks the nearby car park and children's playground. There are boats anchored nearby, a favourite subject for photographers especially at sunrise and sunset.

The Cockle Shell benefits from a wood burning stove and a new fitted kitchen. There is a family bathroom upstairs with a bath overhead shower and toilet and wash basin. There is also a downstairs cloakroom with toilet and wash hand basin.

The Cockle Shell dates back to the 19th Century and the street is shown on early maps. It's had a number of uses in the past including Drapers Shop.

“Beautiful tardis”

Reviewed 20 Jun 2021

From the opening of the front door, until we locked up and left, we were thrilled with all the the cottage has to offer, we travelled around the Gower peninsula and, down to Porthcawl. Parking was not a problem, GG’s ice cream was delightful, disappointed with the Fish and Chip shop next door.
