“Kid friendly hot tub fun!” We thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend in the high mountains of West Virginia because of this prime rental. All of us loved the great kitchen, the big fireplace and the inviting hot tub. A great location - close to skiing or hiking. Just sitting on the sprawling deck and forgetting the rest of the world would have been enough!

“Perfect Getaway” We have been vacationing in Canaan Valley for many years and this is simply the best place we have stayed. There is a lot of room inside and outside to play and have fun. The place looks brand new and is well-equipped. The location is more isolated and peaceful than other properties. Great place for family with kids. Will definitely be staying here again in the future.

“A peaceful place to stay” The cabin was a great place to have as our base camp while exploring the area. Even with the rain, we were able to enjoy the hot tub & sit out on the deck. All we did was bring some food & everything else was available at the cabin. The scenery was beautiful!

“Nice Home. Pretty Scenery. Relaxing.” This house was so enjoyable. The large deck was beautiful. My favorite thing was to sit on the deck with a cup of coffee and wait for the deer to show up in the yard. At night, we turned on the deck light and there was a raccoon eating out of the bird feeder. He put on quite a show for us most nights. With 2 living rooms, everybody could spread out if they wanted to. And even though it was July, we had a few fires at night in the fireplace to take the chill off. The area is beautiful for mountain biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking. As usual, we really hated to leave at the end of the week.

“CAWV Summer Camp House for the Spencers” We had a wonderful time in Calnaan Valley. We were in the valley for the CAWV Summer camp. The house was great. CAWV is short for Challenged Athletes of West Virginia. The camp that was put on was for Wounded Warriors and their families. We were some of the volunteers helping with the event. Will call you guy next year for this house.

“Moose Lodge at Timberline” This was a very nice house for our group (2 couples & 2 children.) For skiing, the mud room/laundry was very convenient. It was a rather long walk to the ski slopes, however--hard to drag the kids that far in their ski boots! Hot tub was great after a day on the slopes. Beds were comfy. I would have appreciated a better sound system for the living area--I like music more than watching TV.

“winter wonderland quilting retreat” Our quilting guild group of 13 had a marvelous time sewing, cooking and dining in the well equipped and spacious house. I loved the guest house and the view from both houses was fantastic. The balcony with the pool table had ants tho, and several of the overhead lightbulbs were burned out and we could have used them all to be working. I also looked for salt to help melt the snow and ice on the walkways, but could not find any. It would have been nice to have had that provided. Best of Canaan has great people and is very nice to work with.

About West Virginia

West Virginia, home of the mountaineer, is as rural as it gets. Outdoor enthusiasts take delight in visiting the state for the plethora of rivers and mountains that make-up over 75% of the area. While West Virginia is known as a place for tranquility and relaxation, it also offers events for adrenaline junkies too.

Once a year in October, Bridge Day is celebrated on the New River Bridge. This festival sees the closure of the bridge while daredevils, bungee jumpers and base jumpers careen off the 870-foot-tall bridge for the thrill of a lifetime. For those people that like to keep their feet on the ground, there are other activities, as well as plenty of hiking, to be had throughout the landscape.

Some of the places you will want to check out include:

  • The Appalachian Trail: The majority of the state is colored by this natural wonder, which cements it as the Mountain State. During spring and summer, hiking, kayaking, white-water rafting and golfing are the biggest draws here for West Virginian vacationers.
  • Harpers Ferry: After you have had your fill of Mother Nature, check out this historic town and visit the place that defined the American Civil War.
  • Charleston: As the state capital and the largest city in West Virginia, Charleston is home to some of the best arts, culture, dining and entertainment around.
  • Blennerhassett Island: This historical state park is situated near Parkersburg. It boasts a mansion, breathtaking natural walks, and wagon ride tours.
  • Charles Town: Founded by Charles, the youngest brother of George Washington, this quaint area is full of historical sites, shops, antiques and restaurants.
  • Wheeling: Known for its Victorian architecture and the scenic Ohio River waterfront, this town is home to Oglebay Park and a casino, which are both popular attractions with residents and visitors alike.

West Virginia offers visitors plenty in the way of recreational activity. West Virginia camping during every season is a big draw for people who relish the outdoors, and West Virginia national parks provide exquisite views of the surroundings. During wintertime, skiing in West Virginia is a popular activity for those who love to hit the slopes. And all of these activities are enjoyed within the scenic backdrop that dots the state's landscape, which is chockfull of West Virginia cottages and lush greenery.

When you are ready to settle in for the night, a vacation rental is a great way to make yourself at home. Enjoy a countryside cabin near the woods or a condo in downtown Charleston. No matter where you choose to rest your weary head, you will get to experience all of the beauty that West Virginia has to offer.

Great location, great hosts

My wife and I had a great stay at the Riverkeeper Inn with our dog and 14 month-old son. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming, the cabin was perfect for our family, and the proximity to the river and Harpers Ferry was great. Only wish we could have stayed longer! … see more

Great Getaway

Cabin was beautiful and very cozy. Location was great. The only thing that would be better is if we had UTV/ATV to take. Lots of trails, woods and even zip lining. Recommend Rustic Ravines 100%. Absolutely beautiful. Hot tub was great!!! … see more

Quaint spot not too far from Snowshoe

About 40 minutes from snowshoe resort, not bad for the price. Beds were solid, kitchen needs a bit of work (e.g. knives were not great) but otherwise a fun and comfortable stay. … see more

Spacious, updated condo close to slopes.

We enjoyed our stay in spite of the warm temperatures. The skiing was still a lot of fun and the slope is a short and easy walk from the condo. I think you could actually ski out the door versus walk the path if it's snowy. Great parking at the condo. Easy in and out. Beds were comfortable and the place was very clean. Updated kitchen and baths. We really appreciated the disposables being there - coffee, soaps, all paper products and toiletries. Plenty of nice towels were provided. Condo has a nice layout w two masters downstairs and two Bedrooms plus a loft with Queen bed upstairs and a full bath. A few basic maintenance issues occurred while we were there, but we called and they were fixed very quickly.see more
Bent Mountain Ledge-Inn
Beautiful trip

Stephen, the owner was nothing short of amazing! The house was beautiful. The view, WOW! I can not think of anything negative to say. The hill to get to the house was an adventure lol, but Stephen met us and guided us to ensure we were comfortable getting up and down. We actually got snowed in on departure day. We cheered and chanted “Stephen, Stephen”, as we saw him coming right along with his snowplow. He even dug a sedan out that we left at the bottom of the hill!! You will not be disappointed with this home or the owner! We can’t wait to go back!!see more
