Description

If you want to spend your holiday lying by a pool relaxing with a book or lazing under trees in a garden, this is not the holiday for you... Our Little Umbrian Cottage is just that; a cottage in Umbria (although right by the Tuscan border) especially for two - either for a couple or for friends holidaying together - in a traditional Italian hamlet and in the most fantastic location for sightseeing some incredible places. It was renovated a few years ago and retains lots of character but has modern comforts too. It is warm in winter and cool in summer, despite being south facing... The shutters are effective against the summer sun, the fly screens protect from mosquitoes and the central heating and double glazing make it cosy in winter. There are wonderful old beams downstairs, and traditional terracotta floor tiles and stone window-sills throughout.

It is a typical Italian village house and has a good sized kitchen and sitting room on the ground floor and two bedrooms, a small ensuite basin/wc (to the main bedroom) and modern shower room on the first floor. The main bedroom is large, with a large Italian bed. The second bedroom has a small double bed and also a large desk/table; the area is such a great place to inspire creativity and this is an ideal place to write a travel journal or to paint.

Internet: There is a small "mifi" unit set up in the bedroom. If you want to use the Internet, you can easily and cheaply buy an Italian SIM card from the mobile phone shop in Castiglione del Lago. You simply open the unit, insert the SIM card and browse... The unit supports up to 5 devices and we have found it to be fast and reliable. However... Some holidays, we still prefer NOT to have Internet access! It's wonderful to be away from emails and from distraction, and to really enjoy BEING there. (The lovely cafe opposite the train station in Castiglione del Lago has free internet access, as do many bars in the region.)

The cottage is located in a small, typical hamlet less than 10 minutes drive from Castiglione del Lago, and about 2 minutes drive from the large village of Pozzuolo, where you can find a supermarket, a couple of bars and a pizzeria.

Getting around

You really need a car to fully explore the area properly. That said, there is a bus stop at the end of the lane (100m) which takes you to Castiglione del Lago or Pozzuolo. The area around Trasimeno Lake is perfect for cyclists - the hills are challenging - but not too challenging! Contact us for more info - my husband is a keen cyclist who loves cycling in this area.

This has been - and still is - our holiday home for 10 years and we know the area well. It's our absolute favourite place! We are happy to tell you about the area and suggest possible visits. We do not live near the house - you'll be living in an Italian village for your holiday. Key collection will be arranged via the local key-holder.
