This chic, central bolthole is ideal for families or friends wanting to be close to the restaurants, theatres and attractions of Eastbourne.

Set in a period property with delightful high ceilings and sash windows, but stylishly modern inside, this first floor apartment is located on Spencer Road, by the renowned 'Little Chelsea' area of Eastbourne with its independent boutiques, cafes and bars. It is a stone's throw from the Devonshire Park tennis, where the pre-Wimbledon championships take place, and Eastbourne's family-friendly beach is just a five minutes stroll.

The welcoming hallway, complete with art wall, leads to a contemporary, open plan living space. The sleek kitchen is well equipped for family dining, and there's a small dining table to seat four. The lounge area includes a large flatscreen, multi-channel Smart TV and an iPod docking station, and free WiFi is provided.

The spacious master bedroom can be set up as a kingsize or with twin beds, and the cosy second bedroom is perfect for children with bunk beds. The modern bathroom has a bath with shower over, and houses a small washing machine.

All towels and linen are provided. In peak season, bookings have a week-long minimum stay. Short stays may be available out of season and last minute. Discounts may be possible for long stays. Parking permits can be supplied for £2 per day.

The owner is actually an architect so the design, furnishings and equipment are thoughtful and I'm pleased it all worked for you and your little one. I can definitely recommend a trip to one of theatres at the end of the road - they often get shows straight from the West End and offer a very intimate atmosphere. I am mortified to hear your thoughts after your several consecutive bookings with us - you have previously told us that you have remained loyal due to the consistently spotless interiors and quality of our properties and if we have failed to hit our previous highs I sincerely apologise. Our excellent reputation at Exclusively Eastbourne is built upon impeccable customer service, so to arrive 10 minutes late for your arrival was a disappointment to us as well as you. We pride ourselves on maintaining immaculate cleaning standards (as our previous reviews for this property highlight) so immediately returned to the apartment after your call to establish if anything was amiss and to rectify any problems. The flooring in the lounge is exposed high quality sound-proofing material rather than carpeting - the contemporary design fitting in well with the newly refurbished interior. However, it can appear discoloured and for this reason we have discussed changes with the owner and it will have new carpet overlaid upon it this month. We have recently taken on a new cleaner for the apartment (we find that having a single person responsible for a property ensures a consistently good finish) and she had not buffed the kitchen worktop to a level that we demand so she finished it off appropriately after we reviewed requirements. I have to say that whilst the Hoover provided in the apartment and used by the cleaner isn't mind-blowingly powerful it is perfectly serviceable and the floors and carpets will always be clean for guests (obviously prior to any arrival). Similarly, the sash windows are regularly cleaned inside. Since you were with us in the winter the outside can take a battering from the elements so it won't always be free of marks. The communal areas of the building are beyond our control, although we keep an eye on things. The other (permanent) residents are very quiet, and are happy with the more traditional finish of the period building rather than demanding the contemporary style of the holiday apartment The central heating is completely controlled by individual guests to ensure that the temperature is spot on for their needs. Previous guests may have turned the thermostat down, but you can simply turn up the heat to a maximum of 30 degrees as outlined in the welcome pack provided for a really toasty feel. Being a fairly compact apartment it does warm up completely in about half an hour so I'm sorry if you missed the information. We would have talked you through the issue had you ever asked and, indeed, would have turned up the dial when I came to visit. Sorry again if your experience tainted your trip to Eastbourne and I hope we see you again next year. Carl
