Description

The Avondale Riverside has accommodation suitable for a party of 8 - 10 people plus a baby in 4 bedrooms, smaller parties can be accommodated by arrangement using fewer bedrooms but still with the use of the rest of the accommodation. All rooms have double glazed windows and central heating, the beds are all fitted with goosedown quilts, with towels provided.

The garden is totally secure for Dog owners and there are lovely walks by the River for your furry friends.

Ideally situated within a 10 - 15min drive of the City of Bath, the Cotswolds, Longleat and the beautiful surrounding area. The property overlooks the River Avon and has a generous garden with seating area, barbecue . Good local facilities - buses leave from very close by with a good regular service. Good walking area - Cotswold way, Salisbury Hill etc and cycle paths along the canal from Bathampton.

Avondale is the ideal place to have a Birthday/Anniversary celebration, Reunion, Family get together or Hen party with a large dining area and catering by arrangement. Weekend and Midweek breaks our speciality.

We are inspected annually by the Tourist Board and I am a Member of Bath self catering Association. There are extra measures in place for cleaning and safe changeovers.

Getting around

Excellent transport links into the City with bus stop just a short distance from the gate, regular services all day. Boat trips from the nearby village of Bathampton all the way into Bath. Cycle paths along the canal or excellent walking into the centre.

Plenty of local information provided in the accommodation, free Wi Fi to research the area from your i pad or phone. House rules

The Hot Tub is strictly for adult use only and no children under the age of 15 years. The rate of £80 is for weekend parties and not for a 7 day duration.
There is an additional security deposit of £160 payable to the owner.

Dogs by arrangement with a few doggie rules and extra £15 per dog.
We only do bookings of 2 nights from a Friday to a Sunday all other stays must be a minimum of 3 nights.

Response from the owner just saw this review and know exactly who wrote it, there were problems with the bath having a leak which we weren't sure exactly of the cause and both my son and husband tried to sort it out. We do not expect guests to use the heating in August as the accommodation faces South and is all double glazed.\ The Hot Tub was cleaned before their arrival although it often gets foamy due to guests using excessive amounts of shower gel before they go in. I always inform guests at all times when someone is going to go down and we wanted to put things right for them. Sorry that has bounced back at us in negative way. The place is checked and cleaned in between every let so I don't agree about the the other comments. My other reviews don't seem to mirror this one so its a shame when we were doing out best to sort problems out. never mind must try harder.

Response from the owner My German isnt too good but my lovely German family did tell me that they enjoyed their stay. Brought their three lovely dogs with them too but left everything in very good order. i hope to have more visits from Germany - Brexit permitting!!

I certainly take on board your comments regarding the garden, we do try to make it clear to visitors with dogs and children that the garden is not secure and the close proximity of the river. As a dog owner myself I have found it difficult to find accommodation with really secure gardens and we will definitely review the situation now we seem to be getting more visitors with dogs. Do come again very welcome!

Response from the owner Very sad that these guests felt the need to put up a second review saying the same things but in great detail. They didnt communicate any of their problems with me during or after their visit. I dont leave a 'note' there is a Tripadvisor board asking for reviews, I added to this asking for constructive comments as my previous experience of the site is it isnt always the case! Garden at the rear is off a private drive, not a road, only used by neighbouring property and 2 engineers that work in our studio next door. Guest are advised not to leave small children alone in the garden due to the close proximity of the river. We allow guests to use this for surplus parking when there are large groups with more than two cars. I apologised for the key issue but the house keeper was away and had the key ( small visitors tend to lose or hide the keys left in doors. Guests should not have access to the basement area and there is a metal gate on the staircase which should be padlocked so maybe it was left open in error. I havent had any complaints regarding damp - we have fans in all bathrooms and a fan in the kitchen and i think this may have been due to wet towels, robes, washing etc. The previous guests had come from Switzerland and did do a lot of washing which they hung up indoors due to the wet weather we had had at that time. The whole property is double glazed and for a property on the City outskirts with good transport links and facilities experiences a certain level of noise at peak times. A 5 min walk from our gate is the entrance to a walk/cycle way across the River to the Bathampton where you can walk along the canal path all the way into Bath, alternatively a lovely boat ride. Im glad that the problems these guests experienced didnt spoil their visit, sorry about the disappointment over the Hot Tub but we had incidents of unattended small children using it like a plunge pool. These tubs can be very dangerous and children have drowned. This is explained at the time of booking. We are inspected annually by the Tourist Board and have a 5* rating, many returning guests and lovely comments in the visitors book so sad that these guests couldnt address things with me directly.
