Description

Wake in comfort to the sound of the sea, explore the misty brooding Romney Marsh, then warm up in the many atmospheric pubs with intriguing histories, resident ghouls, roaring fireplaces, cracking ales and tasty pub grub, walk along our pebbled beach, look out across the shimmering blue sea and you'll feel like you've discovered another world..

Stay at Coastguard's Beach House and discover a landscape full of myth's and legends, surrounded by the haunting loneliness of Romney Mash. A flat, open landscape of wide skies and fields criss-crossed by a lattice of drainage ditches, where yellow waterlilies float in early summer, it offers the opportunity to wander quiet lanes and paths and to visit some of its famous medieval churches and the vast stretch of historic invasion coast.

Built in this secluded spot, to help guard against smuggling and invasion, this beautiful renovated coastguard cottage is the perfect location for a holiday away from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

Coastguards Beach House is a renovated Coastguards Cottage at Jury's Gap, so close to the beach that you can see the sea from the upstairs windows and not far from Camber village and a little further on, the pretty Cinque port town of Rye.

Here at Coastguards Beach House, you are surrounded by views in every direction - marshland designated an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) to one side and the sea to the other. This location is the perfect getaway with only your close neighbours for company.

Coastguards Beach House is a stunning luxury, self catering holiday cottage where you can happily make lovely meals for your family and friends, but it's also within easy reach of local amenities including shops and many excellent pubs and restaurants for your eating out, you are on holiday after all!

Coastguards Beach House has a contemporary and sociable open plan layout downstairs, ideal for enjoying the company of your holiday group, this cottage has all of the modern comforts you need, within a modified traditional coastguards cottage.

As soon as you step inside you'll notice the huge amount of care and attention that has been given in the renovation from its former 1875 life as a Coastguards property to a cosy holiday cottage with log burner, comfortable lounge and modern kitchen – the perfect place for some well-earned R&R away from the monotonous grind of everyday life!

The newly equipped open plan layout kitchen, dining room and lounge in Coastguards Beach House has everything you'll need. Nespresso Coffee Machine, breakfast bar and farm house style dining table where you can relax and plan the day a head over breakfast - why not visit Rye and buy locally caught seafood fresh from the boat or some Romney marsh lamb from the local butchers? Beside The Sea Holidays will be more than happy to recommend our favourites!

From the kitchen area you can see into the comfortable lounge area, with log burning stove that is the centre piece of this lovely space where you can enjoy the company of your friends and family, or relax and enjoy your own company with a good book or well deserved glass of wine.

Upstairs you'll find a beautiful, modern, family bathroom and two bedrooms.

The large, comfortable master bedroom has a double bed with views of the sea, coastal garden and adjoining coastguard cottages.

The second bedroom has two 3ft beds and a single fold away bed with un-spoilt views over the sheep studded marsh where the local smugglers plied their trade in years gone by, this room also benefits from an en suite shower room.

The cottage has a fully enclosed south-facing and quiet garden, the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring one of the many historical sites or taking a hike along one of the areas many a coastal path or marshland walks.

Coastguards Beach House is the perfect holiday cottage to relax and unwind in and do as much or as little as you want and only the crackle of the fire and the crash of the waves to disturb you!

Please note: The MOD firing range is about a quarter of a mile away that is used occasionally, so do not be alarmed as it is not a shoot out with smugglers or Napoleon invading, its the British army sharpening their marksmanship!

Response from the manager Thank you for taking the time to submit this review. Naturally I am rather disappointed by your comments as there are a number of inaccuracies in the review. The property is in a secluded spot right next to the beach as you can see by the arial photos of the cottages which also show the surrounding area. As far as the presence of the wind farm that is located over two miles away, no attempt is made to conceal its presence as you can see them on the photos that accompany the listing and also on the google map. The digger may have been there carrying out works to the sea defences as the entrance to the beach area is near Coastguards. Again this is noted on the listing, but it tends to be more in the winter than Spring/Summer. Regarding the master bedroom drawers and slow draining bath tub, these would have been quite quick simple things for myself to put right for you - in the electronic guide book you received I do ask guests to let me know if there are any niggly issues as the cleaners are human and during busy periods they can miss things or forget to report back. If I somehow seemed unapproachable, I apologise. But I am here to make your stay better: a quick phone call, email or text, and I can fix most problems while you’re out enjoying yourself. There is a hairdryer located in the single rooms chest of drawers, which is noted in your electronic guide. I am however deeply disappointed in your comment that I asked you to go and stand outside in the wind to dry your hair as that is very dishonest statement for you to make. Thank you for the kind comments on our digital house guide as a lot of work goes into that to make it as definitive as possible for our guests to get the most out of their stay and that you enjoyed the welcome goodies. Again I am sorry that your holiday with us didn’t live up to your expectations or that of the other reviewers here on Trip Advisor. Kind regards Richard

“Beautiful Cottage”

Reviewed 23 Jul 2017

We wanted a tranquil retreat for a few days for our first family holiday (we have an 8 week old) no more than 90 minutes outside of London. The cottage was exactly what we were looking for. A fantastic location away from all the hustle and bustle, within a minutes walk from the beach. The cottage had everything that we needed and was a ten minute drive from Rye which was great for a day exploration. The team that look after the properties in particular Richard was lovely and send through a guide prior to us arriving which was PACKED with information and recommendations. I couldn't recommend it enough and will definitely be going back
