Description from owner

Description

Charming 500 year old townhouse on 4 levels. Perfect for a winter or summer retreat! The property is south facing and gets the sun all year round, yet in the summer the thick walls keep it lovely and cool after a day in the sun. On the ground floor is the kitchen/dining-room with beautiful vaulted ceiling. A bedroom with 3 beds and a bathroom with shower is on the second floor. On the third floor is the master bedroom with stunning views. On the top floor is the bright, sunny living room where the views get even better!

One can gaze out at night and see the village of Castelvittorio seemingly suspended in the air. The living room has a large comfortable sofa which turns into a double bed. It has a cathedral ceiling and french doors leading onto two small balconies.

The house is very quaint but has all the mod cons for your comfort. The property has rare vehicle access close to the front door for unloading and there is parking 100m away. We have central heating making the house lovely and cosy for those winter nights

Further details outdoors

Two balconies on the top floor , south facing, overlooking the mountains and the village of Castel Vittorio. An absolutely stunning view. Listen to the bells of San Michelle pealing in the distance - you will know you are in Italy! The piazza is just around the corner with a quirky little bar with tables and chairs set out during the summer months. The market is held here on Saturdays. There is a museum dedicated to the old ways of the village.

Response from the owner Thank you for your honest review. We are pleased you appreciated the house, it's cleanliness and it's situation. Regarding the bells, these are characteristic of all Italian villages and one of the things that we, and a lot of our guests, feel add to the charm of the place. It's a valid point so thanks again for your review.

Response from the owner We regret that Ms MacDougall was not enamoured to the many charms of Pigna and our house as all our past guests over ten years have been. The two top floors are south-facing and have the sun all day and people are always very impressed by the stunning views. There had been no communication regarding the issue of her friend’s mobility before or after booking. All amenities within Pigna are within a 10/15 minute walk. There are 4 bars and 5 eateries in the town. The old town is on a hill not a ‘cliff’. In the summer the bars are open late - indeed one, The Villa stays open until 4am. We have had guests who have stayed here and found the people so welcoming and the location so beautiful that they have bought places here themselves. It is regrettable that Ms MacDougall did not have a positive experience and we hope in future that she does some more research before booking a holiday.

“wonderful little find !”

A wonderful 4 storey home from home. There was everything we needed from books, dvds, games , hairdryer etc ... We had a fabulous 4 days here and felt like locals ! The owners went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed down to making sure the heating was on when we arrived and a welcome pack . There is a fully stocked information folder which was extremely helpful and we followed directions to streams and rock pools which my son loved exploring . This is a lovely house to come and stay in whilst you explore this delightful area of Italy . Loved the local village cafes and restaurants . The little cakes were to die for ..still dream of them now !!! Would definitely come back . Mimi

“Wonderful base for exploring Italian/French Riviera & Maritime Alps”

Reviewed 6 Oct 2013

Having previously stayed in several villages along the Ligurian coast we were looking for a village with a few more facilities on the door step and a less perilous drive to reach it. Pigna was the perfect answer. Its baker, grocers and small selection bars/restaurants meant we didn’t have to drive somewhere every night. The perfect base for exploring the sophistication of Nice, Monte Carlo and San Remo but also all the charming historic villages of the coast and hills. The house is typical of the area with quite a climb to the top floor but well worth it for the amazing views over the ancient pan tiled roofs and church tower towards the mountains. It is charming and comfortable with everything you could need – so pleasant that we stayed in several nights and cooked some of the fantastic local ingredients. Best bits – the mountains, the wonderful bread and pastries from the baker and the late limoncello digestifs with the staff at the bar. We plan return next year.

“Comfort, character and charm”

Reviewed 29 Jul 2013

The house is in a central location in Pigna, a medieaval village of great charm. The location affords easy access to the stunning mountain scenery of the Ligurian Alps, and is half an hour from the beaches of the Italian Riviera. Monaco/Monte Carlo is less than an hour away by car/train. In the other direction, San Remo is a short journey. We flew Liverpool to Nice and the journey from the airport was about an hour, even allowing for our unfamiliarity with the route. Ventimiglia is the nearest town. It has some interesting shops and a good beach, but can be a bit of a traffic bottleneck. We recommend trying the local cuisine and wines, especially good was the Hotel Restaurant Therme (not to be confused with the Grande Therme Spa). The house itself is most unusual, being on four floors with no immediate vehicle access due to the narrow streets. This suited us well - both being keen to shed a few pounds! The house has been tastefully modernised and furnished, and is well equipped. The top floor lounge has two small balconies with wonderful views. We enjoyed a memorable week, and would heartily recommend the property, with the proviso that you need to be fit enough to relish climbing stairs.
