Description from owner

Description

La Cuisine d'Alice is a gracious one-bedroom house on the grounds of the French country estate known as La Chartreuse du Maine, and is one of three vacation homes located on the property, around the courtyard.

Le Maine is situated in the peaceful countryside, at the edge of the small village of Cubjac, just five minutes walk from the local shops and weekly farmers' market. The estate encompasses 63 acres of gardens, meadows and wooded paths. In the middle of a meadow filled with wild flowers, the swimming pool is an ideal spot to relax. The unique situation of La Chartreuse du Maine in the centre of the Dordogne region makes it the perfect base to explore the many châteaux, villages, prehistoric caves, markets and wine yards of the area.

Newly restored in the most pure Périgord tradition, this very spacious home has kept, in addition to impressive vaulted ceilings and exposed beams, its carved stone sink and its large original fireplace.

From the garden, a few steps take you into inside the house. The beautiful limestone walls, the softly colored limewash tones, and the natural materials make for a unique and inviting atmosphere. In winter, the heated floor warms the room and makes it cozy.

La Cuisine d'Alice boasts an open-plan layout. In the main living space, there is a sitting room with comfortable leather sofa and armchair in front of the fireplace, and a dining area to enjoy your meals. The modern kitchen is complete with high-end appliances.

The bedroom is a few steps up from the living space. The openness of this room allows you to see the fireplace from the bed, making it the most romantic getaway for couples. All bed and bedding and linens are new and of the highest quality. The ensuite bathroom has a heated towel rack so you can enjoy warm towels after your shower or bath.

The living space has windows overlooking the private garden, where dining furniture and lounge chairs invite you to sit in the sun or spend wonderful evenings al fresco.

We, Catherine and Maxence, live permanently on site and are more than happy to welcome you to La Chartreuse du Maine, our family home for four generations.

Discover another Dordogne than the one on the holiday brochures. Our passion and local knowledge will allow you an intimate, authentic and unforgettable taste of the real Périgord.

Further details indoors

La Cuisine d'Alice has a very comfortable under-floor heating downstairs, large radiators upstairs and a heated towel rack in the bathroom.
In Summer the heated floor is reversible and becomes a cooling floor.
The bedroom benefits from an electronic opening skylight with an automated shade.
Bed and bedding are brand-new and of the highest quality.
The kitchen is fully equipped with all the appliances, utensils and tableware you will need to prepare gourmet "Perigordine" meals.

Further details outdoors

La Cuisine d'Alice's private garden has lounge chairs, dinning furniture and a Weber outdoor grill
In addition the estate offers you:
- Private woods with many footpaths to enjoy walking, footing, bird and wild life watching
- A kitchen garden with rose-trees on ancient arches and lavender bed. There our guests are welcome to pick herbs for cooking
- A pasture where Zebulon the donkey and Rothschild the sheep are happy to socialize with (not only) children
- A meadow on the Auvezere river banks ideal for fishing
- Bicycles for adults are at your disposal at the property

The large swimming pool is to be shared with a maximum of 8 other guests. It has
- A large teak deck with lounge chairs and parasols
- Modern chlorine-free purifying system (slightly salt water not aggressive for eyes and skin)
- An automated security cover to protect non swimming children
- It is located some 80 meters away from the houses, so as children can play without disturbing nap enthusiasts!

Response from the owner Thank you very much Joanna, for this lovely review. We are very happy you enjoyed your stay at la Chartreuse du Maine so much! We love to help our visitors with suggestions about best places to visit, scenic itineraries, finest restaurants and great activities in this fabulous Dordogne area. We feel blessed to have a bakery in such a small village at walking distance. The location, a little out of beaten tracks though in the center of all the places of interest, makes le Maine an ideal relaxing base to explore the Dordogne. Thank you for your visit. Meeting you both was lovely and we keep happy memories of your stay with us. We will be more than happy to have you back for future holidays.

Response from the owner Thank you John, for this lovely comment on your stay with us. We are happy you had a fabulous time at la Cuisine d'Alice au Maine, found the location to be fantastic, allowing you to see amazing sites and dine in memorable restaurants. Thank you very much for helping us to improve little things, as for the wine glasses, which we changed so that our guests can enjoy quality wines better. Regarding toilet paper and rubbish bags, our holiday homes are self-catering accommodations. However we are happy to provide all essentials for the start of our guests' stay... and, for many items, much longer as you noticed. Thank you for highly recommending us! We look forward to having you back soon !
