Gîte St Martin - Les Eyzies de Tayac

Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil cottage

2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“A real opportunity to spend a “linguistic “holiday in Tayac in F” I have fond memories of Gite St Martin in Les Eyzies de Tayac : the house is very comfortable and pleasant, very picturesque of the region; The garden is spacious and peaceful I found I was able to relax there, I enjoyed visiting Les Eyzies and the region. There are many walks to do around the cottage. Lots of forests, hills and fields. Chantal and John make you feel very welcome. Chantal knows French customs well and she equally understands English tastes: she knows how to combine them and we feel at home in her property. It is a real opportunity to spend a "linguistic "holiday in a French environment, in very good conditions. Thoroughly recommended!

“Our stay at Campagnac villa was everything we wanted.” Campagnac Villa was an excellent base to explore the Dordogne. The villa itself was spacious, clean, welcoming and very well equipped. We all loved the gardens and pool, and were amazed at the peace and quiet. The location was ideal in terms of striking a balance between tranquility and places to explore. Paul was very welcoming, helpful and very knowledgeable about the area, providing us with suggestions of places to visit and activities for the children. A really enjoyable holiday. We would love to return! Thank You Paul

Les Combles character apartment in medieval Sarlat

Sarlat-la-Canéda apartment

“Most Charming accommodation in Sarlat” Just stay here! Don't procrastinate! Don't look at other places! But leave yourself at least four nights to savour the experience. If possible make one of those days a Saturday for the markets. This town is charming, this accommodation is gorgeous, the hosts are wonderful. They have thought of everything to make it enjoyable and relaxing. While in Sarlat walk and look...but don't miss the eastern side of town (from the main street.) What are you waiting for?

Sarlat-la-Canéda apartment

“Ideal Location in First Class appartment” A fanatastic choice well situated next to the Marie in the heart of this beautiful place with so much to see and offer. An appartment that was home from home, clean and well maintained. The obliging owners are based a short distance away in the town, although we had no reason to avail ourselves of their services. Market days are well worth perusing as an alternative to all the Dordogne has to offer right on your doorstep. Wee would certainly stay here again.

Lauzanac Farmhouse, charming cottage, Eymet en Dordogne

Eymet house

3 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms / sleeps 8

“A fantastic location.” We loved the animals, especially the donkeys and the adorable farm dog! The patio and it''s rural view were the perfect place to relax and when it got cold in the evening, we closed the shutters and lit the log burning stove. It was too cold to use the swimming pool, but it was clearly well maintained and I would have been tempted, even in april, if the weather had been a bit warmer! The kitchen was exceptionally well equipped. The accomodation was very comfortable, with plenty of towels and bedding. The heating worked well and the house was warm. As my parents are elderly, the only slight difficulty was the spiral staircase up to the main bedroom. On the other hand, it was very convenient to have a bathroom right next to the bedroom. Wonderful bastide towns/markets/resaurants to visit within easy driving distance. Lots of tourist info available in the house. We would particularly recommend the Etappe Gasconne restauant at allemans du Dropt. Don''t miss the frescoes in the nearby church if you go there! Duras castle is also well woth a visit. There.s also a good walk from the house up to and around a reservoir. It was helpful and reassuring to have the owners living on the farm. They were very welcoming and friendly. Ideal for children, with stair gates, fenced off garden and pool. I would recommend it to anyone and we''d definitely go back!

Le Pigeonnier de Roquecombe

Sarlat-la-Canéda house

3 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 7

“an outstanding holiday experience” Our stay in 'la Roquecombe' over a seventeen-day period (mid-February 2011) resulted in an outstanding holiday experience. 'Le Pigeonnier' provided us with top-ranking accommodations and magnificent countryside surroundings: the cottage is all at once cozy, and decorated with exquisite taste. Its distinctive architecture displays exposed timbers along with the unique, authentic Périgord-style ochre stonework. Nestled against a gentle hillside, the romantic cottage overlooks a lush meadow within fifteen acres of woodland extending towards the Dordogne valley, as a genuine beauty, peace and quiet harbor... a truly unforgettable visit indeed!

Why Dordogne?

This picturesque part of southern France is the epitome of laid-back rural life. Lush, green meadows, stone built houses, grand châteaus and sprawling vineyards cover this area, and many have likened it to a sunnier, larger version of the Cotswolds in the UK. The landscape is steeped in history: explore prehistoric caves, 12th century fortresses and much, much more.

So if it's a taste of traditional France you're looking for, why not book a rental in the Dordogne? Choose from cottages, villas, apartments and, of course, gorgeous French gîtes.

A rich history

There are so many fascinating historical places of interest in the Dordogne, it's impossible to list them all here. But to get you started, highlights include the painted caves in Lascaux. Although the original caves are no longer open to the public, the replica caves are an impressive sight indeed. Visit the Cave of Font-de-Gaume to see the ancient engravings and paintings or ride the electric train through the caves at Rouffignac.

If you want to get your children interested in French history, you'll find plenty of opportunities in the Dordogne. Head to Les Villages Bournat where you'll discover a working watermill, walnut press, fairground rides, wood carving, pottery making and dressing up. At Chateau de Bridoire, watch a jousting display or even have a go a firing a crossbow! And at Vezac, navigate your way through the maze of sculpted hedges and flowers. There's a children's play area and café on site, too.

Food & wine

Whether you're buying fresh bread from the local bakery or dining out in an elegant restaurant, you're in for a taste sensation. Specialites include cassoulet and confit de canard, and local produce such as ceps, figs and chestnuts, will leave you wanting more. One of the best things about booking a self-catering rental in the Dordogne is having your own kitchen where you can recreate French recipes using local produce. There are hundreds of markets taking place all over the region. Salat market is one of the biggest and runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Visit La Truffe Sarladaise in Vezac where you can buy walnuts, truffles, wine and more. Speaking of wine, a visit to the Dordogne isn't complete without a vineyard tour and there are many excellent options here.

Charming cottage in Périgord Noir (4 pers) 2km Sarlat
A place you'd never want to leave

If you want peacefulness, beauty and life in a dreamlike place, this gite is what you're looking for. Its owners, bless their hearts, turned an old barn in a charming house with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room and a kitchen with everything you may need on a holiday, corkscrew included. You can enjoy a meal and a glass of wine on the terrace. The 15 donkeys in the neighbourhood may be visiting from time to time and won't feel hurt if you feed them a loaf of bread. The local cat is also known to roam the place, such as a rabbit or two. The gite is about 3 kilometers from downtown Sarlat, a small and unbelievingly picturesque town boasting a few impressive manors and a trillion restaurants, bars and shops. You'd be well advised not to miss the food market which takes place every Wednesday morning. There are plenty of things to do around Sarlat: visiting castles and gardens, canoeing on the Dordogne, visiting towns like Montignac or Bergerac and, weather permitting, hot air ballooning. If you have a very light sleep, it would be a good idea to buy some ear plugs. You're in a place full of birds who have a tendency to give vent to their happiness at five in the morning. All in all, an unforgettable experience in a fantastic place. Not to be missed. Compliments to Celine and Mathieu and a kind word for Pascale, who is ready to help whenever needed. I could live here forever!

This is a tremendous property in every respect. We were a group of eight (there was room for at least another couple comfortably) Americans and booked for four nights. We could not think of a single negative. Bernie and Adele went all out to make this pace very very livable. -Everything was beyond well stocked. Not just six or eight dishes, but dozens of matching dishes, glasses and cups of varying sizes. Fully stocked kitchen. -The showers, bathrooms and WCs were great. Clean, well designed and in working order. Somewhat rare in France. -Having a washer and dryer is fantastic. Directions to all appliances nicely available -Plenty of space everywhere. -The location of the home is perfect. Just perfect. Walkable to everything. And Sarlat is such a wonderful city, with for what it offers and the things that are nearby. If you are considering this property, go ahead and book it. You can not do better!see more

B&B/Chambre d'hote. (N) double room with terrace.
Such a pleasant stay! Such a lovely position.

Pam & Glyn not only have a lovey place but it is also in a spectacular part of the country. Everyday there is somewhere to visit. Beautiful villages, caves, the river, châteaux. Whilst the gîte is in a very quiet location, it is close to many of the sites of 'The Dordogne'. Our group arrived 'very' late due to a faulty SatNav system in our rental car and a holdup from a motorway accident...but we were still greeted with genuine warmth on our midnight arrival. The cottage is in a very lovely location that brought back childhood memories of wild fields/county lanes. We rose to birds with our breakfast on the patio then we were off for the day to explore and returned to have a wine in the garden. After dinner we would take a stroll around the quiet location. Domme (the prettiest village with restaurants, shops and 'views') can be reached quickly by car but I suggest walking to it via the lane from the gîte. We were a group of 4 ladies but I will definitely return with my husband to stay at this wonderful location again. Merci beaucoup Glyn & Pam! Susan,Kim, Jenny & Ange from Australia.see more

Peaceful landmark in the hills

We spend a very relaxing week in the gorgeous gite with our two girls (8 + 10 years). Sometimes we felt like real Frenchmen in this wonderful fairytale-landscape. We loved the cozy bedrooms upstairs and the nostalgic charm of the living room with the fireplace, the stone walls and the big family-table for games in the evening. I very much enjoyed cooking fresh vegetables and meat from the market in the perfect equipped kitchen – you’ll find everything you need! Of course the Weber-barbecue outside made my husband smile! Therefore we loved to eat under the big tree with the wonderful view into the sunset when everything around is totally quiet except some late birds or a neighbors’ dog. By the way the neighbors are very friendly and if we had a question, Marie José was with us within some minutes (as our French is quite little, it was easier to talk face to face). During the days we discovered the characteristic and interesting cities and villages around. The girls swam in the river and experienced the Gouffre Proumeysac with its fantastic light and the exciting gondola-drive down into the cave (it is worth to do this). Finally not to forget the amount of adventure parks around with climbing courses… they are so much better than in Germany! This nice little gite within this region, so full of wonderful places, will always be a wonderful memory.see more
Fabulous Riverview Stonehouse
it is magical!!

This was our second trip to this lovely home and even though you think you can't go back again, this proves you can!! The house was just as we remembered, though now able to to accommodate 4 couples, which we were. The kitchen was the focal point, (one special meal which Dimitri brought to us and cooked, I highly recommend him), with all the amenities we needed to prepare meals and relax after canoeing, biking and almost hot air ballooning. Just seeing the balloons pass by the patio area was incredible!! This time, the owners, Kitty and Dave were there to greet us, give us additional tips and share a bottle of wine with us. They obviously love their home away home and love to share it with others, so take the gift and rent it whenever you can, I know we will again next year!!see more
