“excellent value for money !” The website of the owner describes the villa perfectly and the site is up to date. A small road leads to a nice villa with a well maintained (every day) swimming pool. A large , fully fenced garden (very useful if you have a dog). A very friendly host Paul. A bottle of wine as a welcome and during our stay (10 days) he gave us some tips of the area and maintained the swimming pool. The location is very quiet. A bakery is only 5 min, a supermarket 20 min and the nice town Bergerac is only a 30 min drive away. Plenty of things to see in a range of 60km. To end this review I would say "thank you" to the host Paul who made our stay very pleasant and relaxing.

“Most Charming accommodation in Sarlat” Just stay here! Don't procrastinate! Don't look at other places! But leave yourself at least four nights to savour the experience. If possible make one of those days a Saturday for the markets. This town is charming, this accommodation is gorgeous, the hosts are wonderful. They have thought of everything to make it enjoyable and relaxing. While in Sarlat walk and look...but don't miss the eastern side of town (from the main street.) What are you waiting for?

“Ideal Location in First Class appartment” A fanatastic choice well situated next to the Marie in the heart of this beautiful place with so much to see and offer. An appartment that was home from home, clean and well maintained. The obliging owners are based a short distance away in the town, although we had no reason to avail ourselves of their services. Market days are well worth perusing as an alternative to all the Dordogne has to offer right on your doorstep. Wee would certainly stay here again.

“A most enjoyable, relaxing holiday” Following a really warm welcome from Isabelle and Thiery we enjoyed our holiday in their accommodation. The house was very welcoming with everything we needed to relax. There was plenty of space both inside and outside to loose yourself in the peace and tranquility of the house. The farm animals were great neighbours and frequently shared our conversations! The farmhouse was in an excellent position, close enough to the nearest town, Eymet, to get provisions, eat out and generally watch life go by, but also far enough away to realise that we were holidaying in the countryside. Everything was in easy reach, including the airport at Bergerac for flights to the UK. The part of the holiday we remember most of all was the great feeling of relaxation we found staying with Isabelle and Thiery. They are very warm people and we look forward to visiting them again very soon.

“Our French "Home"!” I cannot recommend this place highly enough. It is inviting, the kitchen is so handy, and even a washing machine! We just brought along a clothesline and hung our stuff out to dry. It is situated in a small gathering of homes in the French countryside, close enough to all the sights for day trips. We got up every morning and went to St. Cyprian for a baguette and pastry, then drove short distances to great places in this fairytale land. But every night we came home to a very quiet, relaxing environment. Make sure you come here first during the day so you don't get lost, but Deborah's directions are perfect. And she is extremely helpful in the planning process - call her!

Why Dordogne?

This picturesque part of southern France is the epitome of laid-back rural life. Lush, green meadows, stone built houses, grand châteaus and sprawling vineyards cover this area, and many have likened it to a sunnier, larger version of the Cotswolds in the UK. The landscape is steeped in history: explore prehistoric caves, 12th century fortresses and much, much more.

So if it's a taste of traditional France you're looking for, why not book a rental in the Dordogne? Choose from cottages, villas, apartments and, of course, gorgeous French gîtes.

A rich history

There are so many fascinating historical places of interest in the Dordogne, it's impossible to list them all here. But to get you started, highlights include the painted caves in Lascaux. Although the original caves are no longer open to the public, the replica caves are an impressive sight indeed. Visit the Cave of Font-de-Gaume to see the ancient engravings and paintings or ride the electric train through the caves at Rouffignac.

If you want to get your children interested in French history, you'll find plenty of opportunities in the Dordogne. Head to Les Villages Bournat where you'll discover a working watermill, walnut press, fairground rides, wood carving, pottery making and dressing up. At Chateau de Bridoire, watch a jousting display or even have a go a firing a crossbow! And at Vezac, navigate your way through the maze of sculpted hedges and flowers. There's a children's play area and café on site, too.

Food & wine

Whether you're buying fresh bread from the local bakery or dining out in an elegant restaurant, you're in for a taste sensation. Specialites include cassoulet and confit de canard, and local produce such as ceps, figs and chestnuts, will leave you wanting more. One of the best things about booking a self-catering rental in the Dordogne is having your own kitchen where you can recreate French recipes using local produce. There are hundreds of markets taking place all over the region. Salat market is one of the biggest and runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Visit La Truffe Sarladaise in Vezac where you can buy walnuts, truffles, wine and more. Speaking of wine, a visit to the Dordogne isn't complete without a vineyard tour and there are many excellent options here.

Rustic Traditional Cottage in Quiet Dordogne Village (Near Thiviers)
A lovely, relaxing holiday in a gorgeous French gite

This is the first time that we have stayed in a rental cottage in France and we weren't disappointed. The contact with the owners before our stay was short and sweet and then everything was arranged for us when we got there. We were met by a lovely French man who spoke great English and showed us round the house. The house is spacious, decorated with traditional French furniture and has everything you would need on holiday: dishwasher, satellite TV (the house has two dishes so if we wanted to we could have watched channels from all over Europe.;-). It is immaculately clean and there was even a little welcome pack left there for us. Oh and the firplace is huge. It must be 3 metres across. So romantic. Even though the weather was warm , we lit a couple of fires just to get the full effect! The garden is huge and well kept. We often took walks around it in the evenings listening to the crickets and birds. Simply wonderful. The summerhouse is the best feature. We spent most evenings in there. It has a great built-in bar-b-q. We love to ride so we explored the surrounding countryside on most days. We found a cave and a waterfall and all sorts of gorgeous little French villages where we often stopped for a cafe au lait or a French pastry. Just nothing to complain about. The perfect, relaxing holiday. We had a wonderful time. We would love to go back one day.see more
Campagnac Villa - Pays de Bergerac.
A lovely villa in a beautiful location

This is a lovely villa with great facilities in a beautiful location. There was lots of space for the 5 of us to spread out and we enjoyed using the pool, garden and table tennis. It's set in beautiful countryside so you get privacy and great views, but it is close to shops, bars etc. and beautiful Bergerac is only a few minutes away. Paul was extremely helpful and looked after us from our (rather frazzled) arrival and was on hand throughout our stay. We had a wonderful relaxing two weeks and I absolutely love this part of the country. I would have no hesitation recommending this villa to others and dream of coming back myself before too long.see more

A house perfectly situed for fantastic family vacation with kids

Very welcoming atmosphere establishes by the owners. Nice and private area for hanging out and having barbecues. Our Kid was constantly scrolling around to look for the animals or was very happy to go swimming in a nice and save pool. The surrouding offers a lot of opportunities for nice excursions. Two thumbs up.see more
Gîte St Martin - Les Eyzies de Tayac
Peace and tranquility in France

Gite St Martin is a sympathetically restored traditional French cottage set at the base of a beautiful valley on the edge of Les Eyzies. It is a gentle15 mins walk into the centre of the town (3-4 minutes in the car) where there are an assortment of cafes and shops that supply most things that you will need. We loved our stay here in this tranquil little spot. There is a large table with chairs and recliners in the porch at the back leading on to a grassed area with trees where you can have your barbecue, and this in turn leads down to the pool which had just been opened when we arrived. The cottage had everything we needed and the bedrooms are particularly beautiful with their high pitched rooves and open timber beams. There are several walks around the area through beautiful scenery with woods open fields. Chantel and John were our perfect hosts, friendly, informative and always helpful but never intruding on our privacy. My wife was suffering from toothache and they quickly located an English speaking dentist in the area who sorted out her problem. I already miss the smell of wild mint and the butterflies that were abundant in the area. We will always have fond memories of our stay here and hopefully one day will call back, even if it was just to say hello to Chantel and John.see more
Gîte Le Recoux - Charming Dordogne Holiday Cottage in Central Location
Peaceful landmark in the hills

We spend a very relaxing week in the gorgeous gite with our two girls (8 + 10 years). Sometimes we felt like real Frenchmen in this wonderful fairytale-landscape. We loved the cozy bedrooms upstairs and the nostalgic charm of the living room with the fireplace, the stone walls and the big family-table for games in the evening. I very much enjoyed cooking fresh vegetables and meat from the market in the perfect equipped kitchen – you’ll find everything you need! Of course the Weber-barbecue outside made my husband smile! Therefore we loved to eat under the big tree with the wonderful view into the sunset when everything around is totally quiet except some late birds or a neighbors’ dog. By the way the neighbors are very friendly and if we had a question, Marie José was with us within some minutes (as our French is quite little, it was easier to talk face to face). During the days we discovered the characteristic and interesting cities and villages around. The girls swam in the river and experienced the Gouffre Proumeysac with its fantastic light and the exciting gondola-drive down into the cave (it is worth to do this). Finally not to forget the amount of adventure parks around with climbing courses… they are so much better than in Germany! This nice little gite within this region, so full of wonderful places, will always be a wonderful memory.see more

Maison Breuil contributed greatly to a memorable holiday in the

Our stay at Maison Breuil was extremely pleasant. In booking and arranging our stay, we found responses to our e-mails unfailingly prompt and cordial. We much appreciated the welcome basket on our arrival as well as the folder with helpful information, including recipes typical of the area. The proprietors, Paula and Stephen, and manager Steve were in all ways efficient and helpful. The house accommodated us comfortably: all appointments in the house were clean, fresh and of good quality. All rooms were pleasant; we most used the cosy kitchen/dining room. We also found the free Wi-Fi and landline very convenient. The garden is attractive and well-tended. On account of the season we did not use the swimming pool but it is well positioned and in hot weather would be a boon. The immediate surroundings are semi-suburban, but tranquil and with a rural atmosphere. The walk into the medieval town takes a pleasant 10 minutes. Sarlat itself is delightful with arresting architecture; we never missed a market day. The surrounding countryside and all the neighbouring towns are charming. Use of a car is a great advantage. All in all the property was everything we had hoped it would be. We had a wonderful holiday.see more
