Enjoy the quintessential Slow Travel vacation — a week (that is not to say you can’t stay for 3 days or a month for that matter) in an intimate town where you can settle in and relax. Your stay at the beautifully restored and furnished Palazzo Fiumi-LaPlaca is the perfect base from which to discover Umbria. Enjoy spectacular art and architecture, extraordinary cuisine, amazing wine, and wonderful views all along the way.

The palazzo was restored and opened in 2008. There are many stone walls with rustic beamed ceilings and complemented by beautiful Mission style furnishings . The rooms are spacious, the kitchen (with marble counter) has everything you will need to prepare full meals, the bed is extremely comfortable with beautiful linens and soft towels, and the bathroom has a full tub/show combination. From the windows the entire Spoleto Valley opens ups with Assisi, Mount Subasio, and the Apennines in the distance. Sunrises are breathtakingly beautiful. The apartment exudes comfort and tranquility.

There are several terraces for guest use. Meals are served on the garden terrace off the palazzo's main kitchen. We are located in the historic center of town only two blocks from the main piazza — the center of activity in town — where you can enjoy a cappuccino at the bar bar or delicious Umbrian fare at the osteria. There you will also find our town museum (with a lovely Perugino), two churches, the bank (with ATM) and post office.

Response from the owner TripAdvisor is a useful tool for travelers and a barometer for innkeepers and restauranteurs. When a business is given overwhelmingly positive reviews (or superlative ones as in my case) and suddenly there is one profoundly negative review, it's easy to conclude the problem lies with the customer, not the service provider. I have discovered that the adage “the customer is always right” is merely an excuse for bad behavior on a guest’s part. How to deal with perpetually disgruntled guests who have an innate sense of entitlement is something Innkeepers grapple with to get that good review. If anything is not to their liking they can always vent on the internet. Anyone can have a bad day but it is no excuse for venomous rants designed to sabotage a small business. That’s the work of a true troll. Despite this cringeworthy review, I remain committed to offering wonderful experiences in Umbria.

“A characterful apartment”
Palazzo Fiumi-LaPlaca is set in the ancient hill town of Bettona with beautiful views across the valley. We stayed in Gufo, a studio apartment with solid stone walls and a mezzanine area for the comfortable double bed. The kitchen area is very well equipped with a full set of sharp knives. Michael has renovated the palazzo with a fine eye for detail . He takes a genuine interest in his guests and is happy to guide people on art,wine or food tours. We had an enjoyable day in his kitchen completing a fresh pasta cookery course and ate the results later that evening on his pretty terrace. Michael goes the extra mile to ensure guests have a good time. Great apartment in a handy location for exploring Umbria.
