Description
We are located in a small hamlet, close to Bergerac, rural but not isolated and very peaceful. As one guest described the cottage and setting: "an oasis of calm".
Set in the grounds of a beautiful Perigordian Chartreuse, La Petite Maison is a two room cottage built of honey-coloured stone under a tiled roof with lovely oak beams in the living area.
It is an ideal retreat for couples or families with young children. Perfect for getting away from the stresses of modern life.
The garden attracts abundant bird and wildlife, including birds rare to the UK, red squirrels,many beautiful butterflies and humming-bird moths. Wild flowers, including orchids as well as flowering trees and shrubs provide a colourful backdrop most of the year.
There is a good sized swimming pool 12 metres by 6. It is fully fenced with a security gate and although unheated, the solar blanket means that the water remains warm. We open the pool as soon as the weather permits, usually from early May and put it to bed for winter in late October, though the main season is June to September. The pool is ideally placed to catch the maximum sunshine and is very private with views over the garden and surrounding countryside and woodlands.
We have a swing and slide set for small children as well as a selection of outdoor toys.
The area benefits from a very pleasant climate and although temperatures in the Dordogne in high summer can be very warm we usually benefit from a dry non humid heat.
The area is justifiably famous for its food, wine, cultural heritage and archaeological sites as well as having the world heritage city, Bordeaux nearby.
La Petite Maison is well placed for day trips and the choice of activities is only limited by what you enjoy. It is an ideal base for exploring the region or even house-hunting for your own dream cottage.
The rental rates quoted are for the cottage and include bedding, linen, bathroom and swimming towels.
Although the cottage can sleep four, we can only accept two adults and two children.
We can supply cots and other useful baby and toddler equipment, if pre-booked.

There are two main rooms, the double bedroom with separate shower room and the spacious, sunny, open plan living and dining room which has a small double futon sofa bed for children. Please see the photographs.
Equipment such as cots buggies and toddler trikes can be provided.
Baby equipment should be booked in advance.
A washing machine and dryer as well as clothes airers are available for the use of our guests.
The rental rates quoted are for the cottage and include bedding, linen, bathroom and swimming towels.
Because we are usually on site, we can generally lend you additional equipment from the main house if needed.

There are tables, chairs, benches and sun loungers available and one of the great pleasures here is sitting outside, sampling one of the many Bergeracoise wines on a balmy evening looking at the stars through the clear skies. Because this is a rural hamlet, there is very little light pollution so visibility can be excellent.
We find most guests eat their meals outside in the garden in the summer .
The pool is very private, sheltered and in the sunniest part of the garden and has a solar heated shower.
There are games available, such as boules.
The outdoor parking area is within the fully fenced garden, near the cottage.
The entrance to the property is through electrically operated gates.
The English owners live in the main house and only use the pool when it is convenient for our guests.

House rules
Families with children have said they've loved it. We have a quantity of baby equipment, cot, high-chair, buggies, bicycles etc.
Check-in/out times can be flexible IF we don't have a same day changeover.

“Perfect in every way.”
I don't normally participate in reviews but in this case I wish to say that our two week stay was perfect in every way. This was the first time my wife and I have stayed in a rental house in France so we did not know what to expect. The attention to detail to make our stay extremely memorable was exemplary. Down to the drinks in the fridge and the fresh flowers in the house Liz and Rob know the true meaning of hospitality. If you want peace and tranquillity this is the place to stay.

“Amazing, Fabulous, Idyllic!!”
This as a perfect long weekend, the cottage was beautiful, the hosts were amazing, definitely going above and beyond what is normal for a holiday let.
