“Four Days Just Wasn't Enough!”

Reviewed 7 May 2014

I just wanted you all to know what a great place Encantada Guest House is! My wife and I recently left our home in Newtown Connecticut to visit Costa Rica and we had a wonderful trip. The Hacienda is in an absolutely gorgeous setting, with beautiful views of the nearby volcano, the jungle below, and the mountains above. It is a pleasure just to sit in the yard and soak in nature. And their new future B&B; /main home is coming along very nicely. They had just put the roof on, when we got there. You travel about 10 kilometers on a wide gravel road to reach Hacienda Encantada, so at first we thought it was very remote. And sure enough when you reach the village, there are farms and lots of nature everywhere. But once we settled in, we began to realize that much is available within 5 to 10 minutes of the Guest House, including spectacular zip lines (wow!), great restaurants, hot springs, pool slides, butterfly gardens, hiking trails with Indiana Jones- like suspended bridges over the jungle, an animal park, and the best horseback riding we have ever done. The area is amazing! Marty and Nita are wonderful hosts. Kudos to them for having the spunk to carve out this home in Costa Rica!

Response from the owner Thank you so Much, for the kind words, we are pleased that you had a great stay! Nita

“What a wonderful time we had at the Hacienda Encantada!”

Reviewed 2 Oct 2013

What a wonderful time we had at the Hacienda Encantada! The atmosphere was so pleasant, relaxing and inviting. The cottage had all the accommodations we required with plenty of space. The kitchen is large and well equipped, and there is a separate dining area. In the front of the cottage is what I called the "relaxing room" as it overlooks the entire valley with plenty of windows for a breath taking view. The wildlife was fascinating to watch and enjoy, especially the cries of the Howler Monkeys and the beauty of the many varieties of birds. We never drove more than a mile yet visited a bird farm, butterfly aviary, reptile park and picnicked next to a river. The view to the rear is the magnificent arenal Volcano and to the front Lake arenal. The setting is post-card perfect! (Make sure you take a stroll down to the stream for a refreshing swim and peaceful view of the surroundings in the sitting area, awesome!) The owners were a pleasure to work with. They answered all our questions and were honest and ethical in their representation of the property. It was as wonderful as they said it would be. I highly recommend this as a must do vacation site!!!

Response from the owner Tom, Thank you for your lovely review. We look forward to hosting you and your lovely wife again soon.

“Simply awesome”

A fun group of guys went on a trek to Costa Rica and stayed in this wonderful obscure residence in the hills of arenal. If you want relaxation, you definitely get it there. The property is extremely clean and the views provided by the residence are spectacular. Getting to the property is a little challenge but don't let that discourage you, once there it is undeniably beautiful and the purity of the residence will make you feel right at home. Not only was the home cute and charming, but the help provided by Marty and Nita was absolutely valuable. They secured us a horse ride that lead us to a hike and a stunning waterfall, they informed us about the local restaurants, and they even left a cell phone behind so we could contact them with any questions. Are you kidding me? Who does this... simply accommodating. If you are on the fence about staying here, think no more... like Nike says, "Just Do It!" Beyond any doubt, I plan on staying here again when. P.S. Thanks for providing accurate photos of the property. The residence was clean and the photos were factual. :-)

Response from the owner Pura Vida and please do come back soon!

“Spectacular!!!”

Our stay at Hacienda Encantada during the days 21 to 25 July 2013, it was an unforgettable experience. Comfortable, clean and everything you need to have fun with the family. The landscape, the rainy season, and the ambient sounds of birds and animals were elements that made us feel at peace and in communication with nature. Although the way to reach the house was a bit difficult, the same was not reason to stop enjoying all of the wonderful of the place. Talk with Mayquel on the customs and way of life of the inhabitants of the area, it was very interesting. Without a doubt, we would love to return. Thanks Marty.

Response from the owner Thank you for your kind words. So glad you had a great stay!

“Perfectly enchanting!”

Reviewed 6 Mar 2013

We stayed here for three nights in February 2013 as part of a 12-day trip to Costa Rica. It was the first leg of our journey, and it was fabulous. Located at the top of a mountain, in a secluded setting, the hacienda has beautiful landscaping and wonderful patio areas where you can sit in the evening, enjoy a beverage and listen to the sounds of the jungle. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was very nice and the kitchen was fine, but it was those patio areas around the home that we enjoyed most. And we also enjoyed the resident cats, who spent their evenings on our laps. At Nita's recommendation, we did a horseback riding trip to a private waterfall with Lelander, a local man who raises apaloosas. The ride and the swim were spectacular. We also got connected with Miguel, a Venice native who lives in the village and took us on a hike in the rainforest. And for dinner, we dined twice at Pizza Johns. The pizza is fabulous, but even better, we got to sit and talk and drink with Pizza John, who was delightful. If we make it back to Costa Rica, we'll definitely be staying here again. Note: you will need a SUV to get to the hacienda. It's at the top of a mountain with a very steep and rough road.

Response from the owner Thanks Alison for a great review..We are so glad that you enjoyed you stay. As a side note...We are going to do some more work on the road, while we are here.. so hopefully that will make it a little easier to drive!

“Wow! Hacienda Encantada far exceeded our expectations!”

If it was possible to give this home 7 stars, I would! Truly this is a remarkable little home. I cannot say enough great things about Hacienda Encantada. Everything on the listing is accurate and up to date, the photos do not do the place justice, and it is very close to nearby attractions. Nancy, the property manager, was amazing (as well as her husband Z). She organized and booked our zip-line tour, guided jungle tour, our lovely horseback ride with appaloosa Stables to a local private waterfall, and also recommended Ecothermales (the hot springs near arenal that everyone should visit). The cell phone available to those who stayed was such a help as Nancy and Z didn't mind us calling to have them answer questions. I felt like I was staying at a 5 star resort with the accommodations and assistance from everyone involved. Also eating at Pizza John is a must! He makes you feel quite at home. To top things off, the place was clean and well stocked which is important for us! Thank you, Nita, Nancy and Z, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Response from the owner Tori So glad we could share our little piece of Pura Vida with you. Thanks!

“Great house, great view, great times”

Reviewed 13 Feb 2012

We stayed at Hacienda Encantada 2 nights with another couple, but wish we had stayed longer; it was such a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed the house. We stayed at 3 other properties while in Costa Rica, and we were most impressed with Hacienda Encantada. It was very clean, amply stocked, tastefully furnished; and perfect for our needs. Nancy & Z made themselves very available & were quite helpful with tips & suggestions. Beautiful panoramic views of the lake, Arenal, and rolling hills could be seen from the house. Quiet and peaceful. We could not have asked for a more perfect setting, and we could not have enjoyed it more.

Response from the owner So Glad you enjoyed your visit! Thanks for your kind words.

As newlyweds, Pauline (my wife!) & I enjoyed the privacy and seclusion of this beautful house. Situated on the edge of the rainforest, we enjoyed the jungle's wildlife and beauty. Our stay of 11 days was over before we knew it. Hoping to return again to this slice of heaven someday. Our close family joined us for about 1/2 the stay making it a total blast to bounce down the driveway in our loaner pick up truck to go to the little corner restuarant in town and ziplining! Thanks, Larry and Pauline Emnett Castle Rock, Colorado

Response from the owner Congratulations! Thanks for the great review and we are so glad you enjoyed your stay!

great accomodations, quiet setting, wonderful despite the heavy continuous rain that we embraced as part of the rain forest experience..

Response from the owner Thanks so much for the kind words and Review. Sorry that it rained so much.. but after all that is why they call it the Rainforest LOL

“Perfect Place to Stay in arenal”

Reviewed 8 Jan 2012

My husband and two daughters, ages 6 and 11, traversed Costa Rica for two weeks during the New Year's Break. Hacienda Encantada was a highlight of our stay. Nancy was our contact for the house through Vrbo. She also acted as a concierge during our stay. There was a cellphone in the house for us to use during our stay, and I called her a few times to arrange activities and once just to ask for a restaurant recommendation. She was very helpful yet we still felt as if we were the only family left on the planet while we were at the house. The house functions perfectly. It's completely off the grid, so there are a couple tricks like only using one appliance at a time. The house had a solid wi-fi connection as well. For activities, we went on a four hour horseback ride with a local ranch owner named Lilander. He was so cool. He took us to a beautiful waterfall. Another day we went to the SkyTrek and hiked the hanging bridges loop. It was $20. per person, but totally worth it! After that, we went to the "termales libres", where all the locals sit in the volcanic hot springs to soak their aching bones. That was free and super cool. We were so happy to return to Hacienda Encantada after each activity we did. In fact, we didn't try to jam any more activities into our stay because we loved hanging out around the house, in the hammocks and down by the river. Our stay was a true slice of magic in the jungles of Costa Rica!

Response from the owner So glad you enjoyed your stay in our little piece of Pura Vida.
