“It Wasn't all That I Had Hoped For”

Overall the place was cute but it really felt more like a cabin in a campground and I was truly hoping for a much nicer place. I was told it had been updated but it didn't feel that way. The wallpaper was coming off the wall in the bathrooms so when I tried to enjoy a luxurious bath, all I could see was the wallpaper coming off the wall. The decorative pillows on the couch were all lumpy and we were missing a shower curtain in one of the bathrooms so we all had to share the other shower. It took them 2 days to put a shower curtain up. The patio looked like it hadn't been clean in quite sometime...there was an ash tray on the porch with butts in it and some garbage on the porch. The beach chairs were so rusted that we didn't even touch them. One evening we decided to BBQ and the grill they had was on it's last leg...literally. It was difficult keeping it upright while we cooked our steaks. Thought for sure, the whole BBQ was going to fall over. I'm undecided whether I would stay in this complex again...I definitely wouldn't stay in this unit.

Response from the manager Thanks for the feedback. I hadn't thought to check out the wallpaper when relaxing in the bath, nonetheless upon reading the review I had our maintenance person stop by to check out it out too. The shower curtain in the second bathroom is not a curtain, but instead a decorative liner. Even still, upon request we delivered a plain liner promptly to have in addition to the decorative liner. It was reported in the afternoon and we had it there the next day. The beach chairs and bbq pit were left behind by a previous guest and have since been discarded. Within 50 feet of the front door is a cast-iron charcoal BBQ pit located in the courtyard that this condo overlooks. It is regrettable that the weather during your stay was less than perfect. “Laid Back November Vacation”

We stayed at Boogie Man in November, visiting our son, who was attending school at NaS Pensacola. Unit is in a good location with ample parking right out front and only steps from the indoor pool and gym. Easy drive over to the beach with a couple of nearby public parking lots. The unit was spacious,comfortable and nicely decorated. Good internet connection was nice. Would like to see a few additions to the kitchen like "normal size" bowls and cups. The front screened porch was nice but the plastic furniture should be upgraded. My wife pointed out that the master bed was quite soft. Overall, wWe would gladly pick the unit when we are back in the area.

“Great vacation rental!!”

The place was wonderful. Our kids enjoyed the outdoor pool better that the beach. It was awesome with the waterfall and size. The staff could not have been more helpful. The house was great with the screened porch and the kitchen, dining room and living area were very open and comfortable for our family.

“Not what it seemed”

We came with 3 children and were told the indoor pool, spa and work out facility were available. Everything was locked up with a sign that was closed for painting. We should have been told this at time of renting the unit. I feel like we were mislead. No toilet paper, no soap. No dishwasher soap.

Response from the manager This guest was scheduled to arrive on a Tuesday and departed two days later on Thursday morning. It is correct that the indoor pool house was closed for these two days in January so that the floors could be repainted. The outdoor hot tub was still on and being used by our guests. At the time the guest booked this maintenance had not been scheduled so we were not able to relay this to him. We do not mislead our guests and try to go above and beyond to keep them informed. Thus, when our reservationist staff learned of the maintenance we called the guest and informed him that the indoor pool house would be closed during his stay. We gave him the option of cancelling at no charge with a full refund or keeping the reservation and reducing the rent to half price. He chose to keep the reservation. Even though the pool was closed for painting people from this condo were seen going into the pool one evening by a resident condo owner. We reminded the guest the next morning that the pool house was closed and again apologized for the inconvenience. Regarding the toilet paper and soap; all vacation homes are supplied with one roll of toilet paper and one bar of soap per bathroom. This vacation home has three bathrooms. “Great location, friendly staff, and military discount!!”

I discovered The Purple Parrot Resort online while looking for a hotel to reserve and thought it looked nice and the pricing was reasonable (although once the cleaning fee is added, it makes the price higher than the average hotel - but was still a decent value for our party of 8). I was very appreciative of the military discount that we received too! I read some of the other reviews, and do agree that the condo itself is kind of shabbily built (ie: you can hear a pin drop in another room - thin walls, you can feel the unit shake if a door is closed too hard or someone runs up/down the stairs)and I would not want to stay there during hurricane season! The unit was fairly spacious, had a washer & dryer,and was well stocked with the kitchen basics - the only issues we had was that it needs a good deep cleaning (light fixtures full of bugs, ceiling fans, walls and woodwork need to be washed, baseboards and ceilings had built up dust and cobwebs etc),the bedding & towels were also very well worn and one of the dining chair legs was broken making eatting together a challenge. Also, making customers aware that trash bags, papertowels and toilet paper are not provided would be good information prior to their stay. The staff was friendly and helpful, which was appreciated considering I had to call a couple times to get reimbursed for being overcharged and also to inform them of the broken chair. We had a nice stay, and would consider coming back during the warmer months to take advantage of the pool and beach and would also recommend this unit/complex to family/friends wanting to visit the area.

Response from the manager I appreciate your feedback. This reservation was not booked through the resort, but rather an online travel agency. We inform all of our guests of what they need to bring when renting one of the vacation homes prior to arrival and this list is on the resort's website as well under the "things to bring" link. Upon arrival we applied a discount when they informed us that they were military as we appreciate the service to our country! The condos are not shabby built, but rather are vacation homes built on pilings so the elevated floors are not sitting on a concrete slab. This is the same way that the other vacation homes here on the island of Perdido Key are constructed with the exception of the high-rises. These buildings survived hurricane Ivan which knocked down high-rises here on Perdido Key. We had the housekeeping go through after this departure and do a more thorough cleaning. We didn't find bugs, but it was good to get all the tops of the fan blades and cabinets. Thanks again for the feedback and we hope to have your group stay with us again. “If only the other reviews had been true!”

You can imagine my excitement when for the first time ever, I was going to have all four of my grandchildren and my two daughters together in one place. Since it had been several years since I had been on a true vacation, I wanted to make sure I chose the right place to stay. My oldest daughter, her husband and two daughters were already at the Purple Parrot for two weeks because of schooling at NaS. I stopped in Montgomery and picked up my other daughter and her two boys who would be staying with me, it was going to be great. I scoured all of the reviews available for the three bedroom units and finally chose this one.Two of the major things that swayed me were comments on how comfy the beds were and then the listed amenities which included Wi-fi. Let's start with the beds, first. In all of my years of travel, both domestically and abroad, I honestly don't ever remember a bed that slept so poorly. I contemplated removing the mattress and placing it on the floor, but there was no room to do that. My daughter, who is almost eight months pregnant stated the same about her bed, which was in the master. Good vacations rarely happen when there are bad beds to rest on. As for the Wi-fi, that would be a negative. I called the desk several times and left messages before I received a call back. They at first wanted to give me the number to Cox Communication and have them walk me through the connection, but I told them I did not think they would have the password needed in order to connect. I looked on the router as instructed, but there was nothing listed there. They tried calling the owner, but were unable to get the information needed to log on. What I had to finally do was connect the Ethernet cord (which was very short) to my computer, then change it over to my daughters when I was through. Besides having to program the universal remote to operate the TV and DVD, I also had to buy a bulb for the fridge in order to be able to see our food. Probably won't be back.

Response from the manager I am glad that you scoured the reviews. We work very hard to keep our guests happy and I think that is illustrated in the reviews. The office has light bulbs if one goes out while your here and we can reprogram a universal remote if someone has accidentally changed the programming. Concerning the working internet connection; we were not told you needed a longer ethernet cord or we would have certainly gone out and bought one for you. When I checked the router it was working fine, which means that the problem was likely a security setting on your computer. We do not allow our office staff to adjust settings on the guests' personal computers which is why we offered you to use the wired connection. This is the first I have come across negative feedback about the beds and I will pass along the input to the owner. I hope that when you were not on the computer that you enjoyed visiting with your four grandchildren and two daughters at the outdoor pool, in the courtyard directly in front of this condo or at the beach. The Perdido Key area is best enjoyed poolside, in good company at one of the fantastic local eateries or with the sand beneath your feet. Kindest, JD Hallam PKRM Rental Manager

“Nice place for a weekend”

The pool was very nice. The tiki bar was fun and loved the daily entertainment! Staff was friendly and accommodating. Security was always around and checked cars entering,etc. so safety was not an issue. Our villa was nicely decorated with updates, but the construction of the building was shaky. The upstairs floors would shake when anyone would go up or down the steps. The walls were thin, so we could hear things going on outside as well as others in another room. We had a couple bugs in the villa, but were not carried away by them and realize that is expected in Florida. It was a nice place for a weekend stay but I wouldn't want to stay entire week or longer.

“Wonderful Stay in Perdido”

We stayed at the Boogie Man for a week in July and loved it. The house was very comfortable and had plenty of room for our group. We liked being a short walking distance from the pool, but not so close that the music would keep us up at night. It was great to have the pool and tiki bar as an alternative to the beach. It was nice to be able to meet and visit with other people who were staying at the Purple Parrot, and although the property appeared to be full, it never felt crowded. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will likely return next year.

“great stay”

The condo was great. Three bedrooms and 2 and 1/2 baths was wonderful. It needs more kitchen supplies but for a group of 6 friends it was perfect. The location was not the best. A car was needed and the cab rise to and from the airport was expensive.

Great getaway. Stress free and easy going. Great bargain for the price. Friendly people! Tiki Bar has a little trouble staying open, but they should work that out. This was our 2nd visit and we look forward to the next trip! Keep up the good work JD.
