“Great place for family”

Reviewed 23 Jun 2017

Wonderful location with amazing views. Cozy, roomy cottage with lots of comfortable beds. A couple of snags with washer, dryer, but may have been we didn't know how to use. Would definitely come back and preferably for longer stay.

Response from the owner Thank you most cordially for your nice review. Elías

“Practical accomodation in a perfect location on the shore”

Reviewed 17 Feb 2017

We had 5 wonderful days here. Three bedrooms, two doubles downstairs and a large room up a ladder style staircase with two singles and a double. The house is literally on the shore line with beautiful views only 100m from the road, 20 minutes from the airport and blue lagoon and 20 minutes from Reykjavik. The house is really warm and practical not an interior design advert by any means. Its in a good location for the Golden circle and a fantastic location for the Blue lagoon (book before you fly out). We had a great trip to Solheimajokull, a glacier you can walk right up to about 2 hours away just off Route 1 in the south. We were lucky enough to see the Northern lights from the garden on our last night. This is a great place to stay for a family or even two families.

Response from the owner Thanks kindly, Elías

“We adored this peaceful, charming house!”

Reviewed 22 Jun 2016

Oh, how we loved this house! It was the first stop on a longer journey for my family of four, and we found it so hard to leave after three nights. The house is close enough to the airport and to Reykjavik to be convenient, but remote enough to feel like a retreat. It is situated on a lovely piece of land, with stunning views over the black sand beach and water to the mountains in the distance. (The views are even better than the pictures indicate.) The friendly horses in the neighboring pasture made it even more idyllic. The house itself is roomy and well-equipped and the beds are exceptionally comfortable. WiFi access was excellent. Although the house is not modern, we loved the fact that the interior reflected so much about the personality and history of the owner and his family. It felt to us like a real home, not like an impersonal hotel room. Do know that staying at this house takes a bit of planning, since it is not very close to grocery stores or restaurants. For us, though, it was well worth a few extra miles of driving to experience the beauty and charm of the house and its surroundings. We thought it was a great value, and we would happily stay here again on our next trip to Iceland.

Response from the owner Thank you for this nice review, best regards, Elías

“Wow!!! Breath taking”

Reviewed 23 Feb 2014

I can not say enough about our stay here. This was a trip of a life time. The pictures don't do the house or the surrounding area justice. With 2 collage age kids we are a active travelers and always on the run. The first day our land lord stopped by and pointed out the "Must see" destinations of the country. His input was a great help as a supplement to the tour guide. Every day was a complete adventure and after two weeks wow just did not cover it and stunned silence was a description in its self. With 24 hour sun, we where able to sight see all day. pick up food supplies before the stores closed at night. Then come home and start dinner at 10 or 11 pm. The fact that our vacation home had a grill was a great plus for quick hot dogs or grilled chicken late at night. A 2 am walk on the beach was not uncommon. The house is very comfortable and well decorated . It definitely is not the beach condo/frat house rentals that one normally comes across on vacation. I could move in here and call it home today. Our land lord was a great help. After a miss-communication on our part in regards to our departure date, they where able to adjust there schedule so we would not need to find a hotel at the last minute. That alone to me is priceless. Apparently it is common for the owner to stop by. He knocked on our door one morning and I spent an hour with him discussing both his and our travels threw out the world. Very interesting individual. If Iceland is a travel destination for any one in the future, This would defiantly be the place to stay. I definitely plan to return. Hopefully in winter to see the northern lights.

“Peaceful house on farmland near the water”

Reviewed 6 Oct 2012

I highly recommend this farm cottage as a peaceful retreat after a day of sight seeing. It was very clean and pleasantly decorated with comfortable beds. The kitchen was so well equipped we ate all dinners at the house after watching the sunset. The friendly Iceland ponies greeted us every morning and evening and provided great photo ops. Birgir our host was very kind, knowledgeable and shared interesting facts and places about Iceland. The owner of the house, an interesting man who has traveled the world, was also very warm and welcoming and shared some tea and conversation with us one afternoon. The house is close to the airport and Reykjavik as well as supermarkets. Birgir was kind enough to make car arrangements for us so we were able to get to the cottage to rest soon after we landed. I should mention that interested parties should realize that the steps to the upper bedroom were very steep and only appropriate for the athleticly inclined. My husband and I, both in our 50's, got used to them pretty quickly and they became part of the charm of this special cottage.

“Wonderful cottage in a peaceful, beautiful setting”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2012

We so enjoyed our stay at the Waterfront Cottage. It was so peaceful and the scenery is just stunning. The ocean views and landscape was perfect. If you wish to experience the beautiful nature of Iceland , this is a perfect place to stay. It was so lovely to meet BJ and anna and enjoyed their company and the appreciated the time they took to show us around the property and tell us about the area.

“Thank you!”

Reviewed 20 Jul 2012

Dear BJ, From the moment we met you and your wife, we felt at home. Staying in your beautiful, homey little cottage by the shore is just what our family needed, and we thank you for your kind hospitality. I also can't thank you enough for letting us stay that additional night (even though it was going to make cleaning the cottage for the next visitor a push) when we accidentally on purpose missed our flight to Germany. The extra stay allowed us to have just enough time to finish our laundry, which was a huge blessing! We loved walking along the black sand beach by the house (thank you so much for the sand toys!), petting your horses, eating the delicious, fresh eggs laid by your chickens, and watching our children run in the yard and climb on the rocks. Thank you for your advice on what we should see, and also I'd like to thank the landlord for stopping by to say hi. I only regret that we didn't have more time to speak with him and with you while we were there because I'm sure that we would become fast friends. Next time we stay with you (because there will be a next time), we'll have a BBQ on the amazing grill that you have there! Thank you again, and enjoy your trip to the Outer Banks! Kind Regards, The Jones Family

“Wonderful House”

Reviewed 22 May 2012

My friends and I stayed at this house for a few nights and we enjoyed it much. The location is spectacular. It is along the shore and perfect for people that want to be near the water. The sun sets over the ocean view which is great for sunset photos. The house had a lot a character which we liked. The beds were comfortable and the wi-fi was excellant. This home is also a short drive to the blue lagoon which was nice. The gentelment that rents our the home is very friendly and helpful. One of our favorite parts of our trip was meeting him. I highly recommend this home for anyone looking to rent in this area of Iceland.

“Rustic and Cozy Seaside escape!”

Take a trip back in time without losing any modern conveniences! This is a great house that is roomy, comfortable and full of character. Scenery includes magnificent mountain views with the ocean and a beautiful beach just a few steps away! Very private and quiet, the location is perfect, close to the airport as well as the capital city. It was a really enjoyable stay at a great house.
