“Fantastic...everybit as good as our first visit!”
This was our 2nd time to stay with Charlie in Bayview Villas. We didn't even remotely try looking elsewhere when we decided to come back to Exuma for the 4th time. Firstly Charlie & his family are so welcoming and accommodating. From the minute we arrived we were like old friends. And he was like that for the entire 2 weeks we were there. Always around if you needed him, but not around also if you know what I mean! We rented our own car for the 2 weeks and it had a slow puncture but Charlie had no problem putting some air into it for us. The Villa (number 1 again) was immaculate as the first time we stayed there in 2014. There's not many owners or hotels that do a deep clean after every guest leaves...Charlie does & it shows...or rather it doesnt as you wont find a speck or dust or dirt inside, or around the property. It's bright, airy, has everything you need to cook, and we did every night for 2 weeks & most lunches. And the beach area is gorgeous & has been recently done up very nicely. The gazebo area is fantastic too. That water is so nice. And there's a couple of resident turtles eating & swimming around the grass in the water now! And most evenings you'll get nurse & lemon sharks swimming by...so great to watch! The area is one of the best for kayaking & the fact Bayview comes with kayak usage is a huge plus. If you go left out of the villa you can go to the huge Man O War sand bar, get the tides right & they'll take you down, then bring you back to Charlie's when you're done! Go right out of the property & you can kayak all the way to Moriah Harbour cay which is amazing. It's a longish kayak but so worth it. Again, make sure the tides are right! Then there's the inside of Man O War cay which again is awesome & worth at least a half day kayaking looking for the most amazing beaches...right at the far end!! The location of Bayview is pretty much perfect - 15 mins from Georgetown, and 10 minutes from Little Exuma, which has hands down the best beaches on the island, and you have to find them (not Tropic of Cancer, there's better!) so there's usually nobody on them! And Santanas is nearby too, the best restaurant on Exuma! If you haven't guessed, I highly recommend Bayview Villas, we'll be back for certain!
Charlie was so wonderful and hospitable! He went above and beyond to ensure our stay was fabulous! I felt like we had our own slice of heaven with the sandbar just behind the villa. Be sure to take bug spray as the noseeums are no joke but other than that the trip exceeded my expectations! Tiffany Cecil
This place is great. Great location, super clean, beautiful grounds, it has everything you need to have a great stay in Exuma. Charlie went above and beyond to make our vacation perfect. We will definitely be coming back.
What an amazing trip!! This is truly paradise! Accomodations are extremely clean, well appointed and the view and water at your doorstep is just incredible!!! We saw turtles, sting rays and dolphins right off the dock!!! And Charlie is hands down the BEST host ever!! We are counting down the days until we return!!!
Max
“Loved Exuma but I wouldn't go back at Bay View vacation Rentals”
Better an egg today or a chicken tomorrow? This is my question to Charlie, the owner. I'm going to explain myself during this review Please consider I was going to leave a positive feedback until the very last minute of our stay, but what happened "opened" my eyes on how customer are actually treated as an asset to get out more money as possible I didn't rent a car from a car rental at the airport because Charlie was renting one to me at an honest 50$ per day. I wanted to rent it at the airport in order to have immediately a vehicle to reach Charlie’s house. “Thank god” I thought when Charlie said he was going to pick us up at the airport by his own. The last day of our stay he arranged his father to drive us to the airport (flight at 3pm) since we had to leave the apartment (at a very early 9.30 am) for him to do the cleaning, I thought again “very nice organization” The father (I presume 80 years old) showed up with a 70’s van in terrible shape, later than what we asked for When we were actually leaving – in a hurry (since we had 2 connecting flights and we couldn’t lose the first one) - Charlie stopped us and asked 70$ for the 10 miles ride to the airport. I was thinking about a joke, but he was serious. I had no money left and I was shocked about that enormous amount of money he was asking for: I asked why we had to pay for the ride since he never said that we had to so. I also have an email proving that the price he presented me was a final price, including everything (a part from his car rental and the boat rental). Still in shock, I just wanted to get on the plane as fast as possible; I told him I had no more US Dollars in cash and that I could bank transfer him the money. We were in hurry, because of his father being late. He said no way. His dad was going to escort us to a bank, withdraw money and pay him, than to the airport. Obviously I am not saying he was blackmailing us, just that this coincidence seemed a little strange. So, the question is: better an egg today (70$) or a chicken tomorrow (a positive feedback)? Previously I said this last minute unexpected gift “opened my eyes” on our host, now I’m going to explain why with a series of facts: - When I first got in touch with Flipkey a price was reported on the website. Well don’t trust that price, even if the owner says it is final, because when I received the payment request this was raised by 150$ of hidden costs, that later I found out were cleaning fees (I think he may have recently listed these costs on the property description). Obviously I saved all the emails (and a copy is on Fipkey servers), so I can prove what I am saying. - One of the reasons we choose Charlie’s house is that he rents a Boston Whaler boat at a very reasonable 75$ per day. Shame that when we actually asked the boat the price for the “smaller boat” (they have 3 sizes) had risen to 160$ per day - I asked Charlie to get fresh lobsters since his bother in law fish for living. I brought me only tails, not the entire animal - still alive - as it should be. The tails were incredibly cold. I’m not saying obviously that they were frozen and not fresh, just that I paid for a live entire animal, and the one I got was very far from that. - Charlie is a verbose guy, he just wants to talk. Let’s imagine, you’re showering he starts knocking at the door and he goes on until you open. Once you open, you’re done, forget everything you were doing because at least 30 minutes are wasted even if there’s nothing to say. When you try to ask him to leave (and considering it is his house I was not to comfortable in asking him to), it takes 2/3 times saying “well Charlie, it’s late now I should prepare dinner” or “well it’s late now I would like to shower”), before he actually leaves - Since he’s just one guy doing everything, on checkout day (the one with the 70$ surprise), we had to leave the apartment at 9.30 am (flight at 3pm) and were allowed only to use bathroom while he was actually in the house doing the cleaning - Internet is not working half of the time, don’t count on that. First day we got there, downtime for 24 hours. 5th day same thing. On 6 days of vacation 2 entire days with no WiFi. - Beds are terrible since they are small (smaller than queen size) wrapped in plastic and then covered with bed linen (I guess this is to ease Charlie’s cleaning). It’s a nightmare to sleep in there since 1) you sweat because there’s no transpiration 2) every time you move you wake up your partner because of the plastic stretching noise. - Sun in Bahamas in winter raises at 6.30 am, blinds at windows are really cheap quality and they let all sun come in, so the result is that at 7am there’s midday illumination in the bedroom In the end: I loved Exuma, but I wouldn't go back at Charlie’s
“This is the place 2 be for a paradise holiday”
After 24 hours travelling we arrived at Exuma. It was a great surprise and excellent service that the owner Charlie was waiting for us. We rented a car and followed him to his property in Rolletown. It was about 20 minutes drive and driving on the lefthandside. The appartment was so spottless clean and fresh bananas from Charlies garden were waiting for us.We found everything we needed in this fully equiped 2 bedroom appartment. There was even a smoothiemaker,a wii for our daughter and high speed internet access. Charlie made us feel at home straight from the beginning and we became friends after only one week staying. If you like, and he has the time,he is the most perfect host caring about you like family. He took us out on our first fishingtrip and amazingly our daughter caught all the fish, that we prepared and enjoyed a lovely dinner with Charlies family. He made great tasting conchfritters and conchsalad for us as well as he opened freshly cutted coconuts with his impressive machete. We had a lot of fun getting them from the tree in his garden and we enjoyed sitting and talking with him under the gazebo. The view from there is out of this world. We have never seen such colours of the sea and making our way with the kayaks to Man O War island was a highlight of our holiday. Nobody there,it was like adam and Eve in paradise. Exuma is a beautiful little island where you find very friendly, relaxed people and beaches just for you. It´s truely paradise!!! We would love to return one day and recommend Charlies Bay View appartement to anybody we speak to in Europe.
