An authentic village experience, a little too authentic for my wife with bathrooms open to the elements, and comparing it to recent 'resort style' villas, but after a 5 star spa treatment at a resort nearby she settled in. My 6 year old daughter and I loved it, lots of space to breathe and a few visits from the local wildlife. Good aircon and tv. The new restaurant on the other side of the rice paddy was a godsend, saving us from the long walk up the path to the taxis everyday. We even hosted a dinner party for friends, thanks to Kadek for cooking a traditional/western feast for 7 people.
“Beautiful setting in an authentic Bali villa with everything you”
Helen and Kadeo could no have been more welcoming. Helen gave us lots of information before we arrived and provided a few things we asked for including airport pick up and a brand new baby car seat. We were pleasantly surprised by the walk to the villa having imagined a bit of a trek it really was only 5 minutes through the rice paddies which we easily managed with two asleep children (aged 3 & 4) and our bags with kareoke help and a torch! It all added to a sense of adventure. In the day light this walk was wonderful and we saw beautiful views villas and lots of wildlife including ducks frogs dragonfly dogs etc to the delight of the boys. Karens breakfast was gorgeous and she was very good with the kids. The villa was beautifully decorated but so you didn't feel at home and they encouraged us to move anything around to make us happy. The two bedrooms outdoor ensuites and huge open plan living area was lovely with ceiling fans and aC. The outdoor patio, pool and Bali hut were stunning and very private with high walls and a lovely wooden door out to the paddies. We stayed 5 days and spent one at the elephant sanctuary which was well worth the pricy entrance, Kadek arranged a driver for around $30 au for 4-5 hrs. We felt quite close to Ubud centre too but didn't walk there only because it was a bit tricky on the narrow roads with kids but taxis were good and very cheap. We are at dreams cafe on the oath many times and loved the food and ambience my son started to look like banana fritters and my husband and I like nasi goreng! Amazing place and we felt so welcome thanks again to Helen for her lovely impromptu australia Day get together we were so kindly included in! Btw we took every mozzie repellant and had no problems or need for it also no sickness which is quite am achievement when your toddler eats off the floor! Highly recommend pondok iman for families or couples.
Response from the owner Hi Kate Thanks for your wonderfully detailed review! Having a journal like this of your time here is a great way to help others see it from a travellers point of view, rather then the marketing blurb! It was a pleasure to meet you, Nigel & your gorgeous boys - and thanks for being such great company on Australia Day, and helping make it a great party Hope to see you back here one day Helen
“Lovely stay, off the beaten path, luxury in the 'real' Bali”
Lovely lovely house with wonderful owner and staff. Really enjoyed our stay. Great breakfast. Good location. Felt very authentic. Pool and garden are lovely. Katut made us lunch at the villa at it was some of the best food we had in Bali. Well equipped kitchen, TV and Dvds provided. Highly recommend it. A few comments: - We arrived at night and did not know we needed to walk 5 minutes down a very narrow, very dark path to get to the house. Was a bit disconcerting. Once we saw it during the day it was less of an issue but getting there the first time was rather strange. - Outdoor showers are beautiful but one room the toilet paper got soaked every time we would shower. Ended up not using that shower at all and sticking to the one that didn't soak the toilet and toilet paper. - I found the mattress uncomfortable. My husband and kids slept great but I am a bit more sensitive and it was a bit too creaky and soft for me. But after a long exciting day in the Ubud area, I managed to sleep anyhow. - No shampoo was provided so bring your own. - And of no fault of the owner...it is loud at night, the animal life is amazing and the sounds of the frogs, roosters, crickets and whatever else was out there was incredibly loud. But those complaints are just meant for the owner, who is new to this whole vacation rental business...we would have stayed longer and would go back if we are ever in Ubud. Still some room for improvement.
Response from the owner Thanks for the feedback - its always so helpful as it lets us know how we can make our guests more comfortable. We have adjusted the marketing materials to help people be prepared for the night arrivals. In addition the area is being upgraded so there is much better lighting now all along the path to the Villas, and a new path is being laid which makes the walk easier also And we have moved the tiolet roll holders away from the showers! So now they stay dry. Glad you enjoyed your stay & look foward to seeing you back in Ubud one day Helen
From the very beginning even before we arrived, communication with Helen was excellent. She was very accommodating to our needs (4 adults and 3 little ones). The villa was comfortable and was always stocked with bottled water. We were also given a mobile phone to use to make local calls while we were there - this was great as we were able to organise daytrips etc. The villa is a 20 min or so walk to the main centre and is located about a 5 min walk from the road down a path through rice paddies. There is a nice warung at the start of the path and the dream cafe, closer to the villa, is lovely. Keduk was on hand to help out at all times with drivers, advice etc. It is worth asking her to cook a dinner for you in the villa, it was a whole table full of delicious, fresh, local dishes. Our last day was difficult with one of our party coming down with dengue fever (picked up in Seminyak) and Helen and Kedak could not have been more helpful. If you are happy with walking and not being in the main centre then this villa and the service offered is awesome. Breakfast is even made for you each morning!
Response from the owner It was a pleaseure having you guys here! Hope we see you again for another holiday Cheers Helen
