“Great Family Rental”

Reviewed 20 Feb 2014

We spent a month here with our adult children and grandson. It was really nice having two separate living spaces on two levels and the pool was lovely. We love staying in Penestanan...an easy walk into Ubud and much quieter. This is our fourth villa rental with Steve and we will be back!

“Noisy”

Reviewed 7 Dec 2013

Having looked forward to this planned holiday for my daughter's 21st for months, we were all very excited to start our stay in Ubud. I love Ubud and have visited numerous times. The Villa itself was lovely clean and well serviced. The main issue was noise from the site next door. By next door I mean literally on the other side of the pool wall. The building construction noise started by 8 in the morning and went until 5 or so, every single day of the week. On the last two days we were treated to angle grinders for hours on end (Sat & Sund). The rest of the time it was incessant banging into rock with I'm guessing, metal objects. When I complained to the owner, he basically passed the buck saying that they didn't know this was going to be happening and they inform guests at time of booking if there will be construction etc. It was a shame because it spoiled my experience of what I was looking forward to, a well earned one weeks relaxing peaceful rest. I also paid good money for this experience. We would have been happy with a relocation but that wasn't offered.

“An Oasis!”

Reviewed 19 Nov 2013

My husband and I rented Villa Sophia with another couple for 3 nights in September (4 Canadians). The villa, like a secret garden upon entering, was a perfect oasis for us while visiting Ubud - just outside the busy central area (2-5minute bike/cab, 15-20 minute walk). Visiting Ubud for the first time, we debated booking more centrally, but were all super relieved to have booked away from the busy, much more touristy area!! There is a place to rent bikes and a small convenience store right near the villas - great for snacks and beers, as well as quite a few restaurants right at the end of the pathway. Highly recommend "Bayu's kitchen" - very chill, music different nights, great Sri Lankan specials! Oni, our driver was prompt and helpful. About 1.5 hrs from DPS airport - cost was 25us for airport transfer, which was great. He can also arrange to have bikes for you (5$/day), if you're looking to rent. The villa itself was fantastic. If staying for a long or short period, it would work - two separate kitchen areas, each large bedroom has its own attached bathroom, and an extra bathroom in the main area. Lots of sitting/lounging areas, and a great bonus to have the small pool to cool off in at the end of the day. The large gate/walls covered in garden vines and trees made it very private and peaceful. You set a time with Dewi, who will come to make breakfast and clean up/change towels, etc. No one stays on-site but you (I wasn't sure of this when booking). My only suggestion would possibly be to install a hook to set up a bugnet, for guests who bring one. I would genuinely recommend this villa to anyone! Really fantastic ?

“I've just found the perfect venue for sharing a holiday in Bali”

Reviewed 21 Jun 2013

We had great service from the Private Ubud Villas company and all their staff. Their driver, Oni, greeted me at Denpasar airport even though it was midnight. Then each group of friends were met and delivered back to the airport as they came and went. We were all personally escorted to Villa Sofia where lights and air conditioning welcomed us.) The company also provided, through excellent local Balinese staff (in our case it was a wonderfully competent lady named Dewi) daily servicing including breakfast in our villa, cleaning, bed making etc. Villa Sofia was perfect for me, usually a solo traveller, to share a great holiday with friends. I spent six weeks there occupying the very private upstairs accommodation while various friends, some single, some couples came for 5-10 day periods and stayed downstairs. Obviously at times we all met in the various relaxation areas, especially the area around the pool and the downstairs dining area; but it was also great to be able to retreat to our own space at times. There are well equipped kitchens and terrace day beds both upstairs and downstairs and two poolside lounges. The location at Penestanan proved perfect in many ways. For those who wanted a more relaxing holiday, there is a variety of warungs (cafes), restaurants, shops and ricefields within easy walking distance as well as two TV areas with DVD capability. There are also Yoga classes and other Meditation Centres nearby. The free wi-fi works well both upstairs and downstairs. For those who came to enjoy the cultural and/ or natural attractions and/or shopping of this area, Penestanan has plenty of tour organisers and motor bike hirers and car drivers for day trips and is only a few minutes (about $4) by taxi away from the centre of Ubud. My fabourites were the Kecak Dancers in their village on Monday nights and the trips to Bedugal and Kintamani. My grandchildren loved our pool, the zoo (especially the elephant ride), the fruit for breakfast and the markets.
