Very Good

We loved it - being amongst real village life, delicious restaurants, and most of all having chickens ducks and turkeys in the lovely garden. The balcony was perfect, and we enjoyed the visits from Roxy and GinGin the cats. A beautiful place.

“Away from it all”

Reviewed 25 Oct 2011

If you are looking for a relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings, with marvellous countryside, archaeological sites and a beautiful beach within easy reach, this is it! We spent two weeks in Grapevine Cottage and reality surpassed our expectations. We loved the cottage with its slight quirkiness and many individual touches, the space and light of the upstairs room and the coolness of the bedrooms downstairs. Outside, you are spoilt for choice: the spacious shady balcony with its marvellous views towards Kalkan, the comfortable couch and chairs under the vines in front of the house, another dining table by the barbecue or the hammock. All of this set in a mature garden with the sound of water from the irrigation channels adding to the feeling of coolness and relaxation, as do the muezzin's calls from the mosque in the village above. Islamlar is about 20 minutes from Kalkan, though with practice, the distance seems to get shorter. It is a small village with quite a few restaurants offering simple meals, all featuring local trout. Kalkan has everything you could want, though we spent little time there as we felt it was a little too touristy. There is plenty to see in the area with many, often deserted, Lycian sites nearby, stunning countryside and, once you get away from the coast, villages that are untouched by tourism. The beautiful, completely unspoilt Patara beach is just 30 minutes from Islamlar and even in august not at all crowded. It was great to have Deborah nearby who was very hospitable and provided us not only with local knowledge but also with marvellously fresh eggs from her hens and ducks. Various other friendly animals wander about in the garden, all adding to what, for us, was an ideal holiday.

“perfect hill retreat”

i booked and had no idea where i was going, and felt quite at home as soon as Deborah collected me from the bus.I was made very welcome by deborah and all pets in her wanderful hillside traditional Turkish home.I walked, relaxed, pottered around kalkan and soaked up the tranquility of the village.Deborah was very generous in her hospitality, rides down the hill and to neighbouring towns,I will definately return with friends but also realy did enjoy travelling on my own. “A Secluded Property”

Reviewed 8 Oct 2011

If you want to enjoy seclusion, lovely scenery and views as well as the company of some charming ducks, a couple of turkeys, a 'cheeky' chicken, and two friendly dogs, then this is for you. Located high above Kalkan in a rambling Turkish village with some highly eccentric local restaurants, the whole experience reeks of authentic Turkey. We fear that this is fast disappearing so grab an opportunity to experience something that may not be around for very long. Deborah is a wonderful host, non intrusive and ensures that you have a healthy supply of eggs as often as they are available. Grapevine cottage is a haven of coolness and calmness to return to during the heatwave we experienced in September.

“tranquility right in the middle of green beauty”

Reviewed 6 Oct 2011

Deborah's place is a charming, beautiful and quiet nest far from the hustle and bustle of the town, which is however reachable easily if you have a car. The cottage is decorated and organized with taste and love, which really makes it a place you feel home in. It is clean, comfortable, cosy. The upper floor is large and full of light, with a delightful terrace wherefrom you can sit hours looking at the sea in the background, and the trees and grape yards around. Furthermore, Deborah is a kind and helpful lady, who will do her best to make your stay a lovely one. Definitely one our best stays ever! Definitely recommended for couples: a real honeymoon cocoon!
