“Villa Semadhi: paradise found!”

Reviewed 2 Dec 2014

We stayed for two weeks in Villa Semadhi and we enjoyed every single moment: the house is beautifully designed and furnished with a great eye and sense for detail. Beside that, it's very comfortable with its large rooms and bathrooms. For example: we enjoyed very much our comfortable outdoor, walled bathroom with an amazing tree and beautiful big plants. During day- and evening time the garden is the place to be: for every moment of the day you can find several comfortable places to read, meditate or just relax in the shadow of flowering trees, such as the amazing 'frangipani' (Plumeria). Furthermore there's a lovely breakfast/lunch/dinner pavilion in the garden, surrounded by a pond full of fairy tale waterlilies and fishes. We just sat down, had a nice Balinese Bintang beer and waited for the wonderful Balinese 'cuisine' to surprise us! We were absolutely spoiled by the very friendly staff, not only with delicious meals, but also with a bicycle whenever desired and other small attentions. I should not forget to mention the infinity pool, which is very well placed within this tropical paradise garden: we swam with a lovely view on the ocean at one side and the beautiful house on the other! As for the surroundings of the villa, they are also worth a close look: we found some interesting temples and even attended a service in one of them. Furthermore there are several beautiful resorts at about 10 min. cycling. We were very welcome to walk around and take a look and pictures and to have a nice lunch or dinner at the beach. Every resort has its own character, so we visited them all! We also found some nice little giftshops and small 'warungs' (little restaurants). At last we made a very special trip to Menjangan Island by boat, where we went snorkling and saw the most amazing fishes and other creatures. Last but not least we were truly touched by the unbelievable friendliness of the Balinese people: everybody smiles, says 'hello' or even asks where you're from and if you like Bali. Never before we met such friendly and open people! No surprise: we truly and very enthusiastically recommend this villa and give it five stars!

“Off the beaten path lies a gem”

Bali is one of our favourite places and having visited the more common areas numerous times, we decided to venture further out this time. Unlike the touristy areas of Bali, Pemuteran offered us peace (there were no tourists anywhere else apart from the neighbours) and the sights on the journey to the villa were beautiful! Villa Semadhi has an amazing location offering the best of both worlds - the sea directly in front and green velvety mountains close behind. The layout of the villa is perfect for family getaways as while the common areas were amply spread out to offer everyone some personal space when needed, they are all within sight of one another so you never have to 'look for a missing person' either. The villa owners are incredibly helpful and reply promptly to all requests for assistance. Especially for our group where we had to cater to some last minute changes due to logistical issues, Jane displayed an amazing amount of patience. Putra the villa manager was very pleasant and spoke better English than all other villa managers I have encountered. He was ever ready to help make our stay as memorable as possible - just tell him what the group needs and he works magic! The villa's drivers spoke good English too so they were able to interact and provide insightful local information during the travel of our day trips. Jero cooks up an amazing feast every meal (best in Bali!) and leaves us wanting more now that we are back home. Komang the boatman is polite and attentive, quick to pick up signals when differing abilities in the group require him to pick people out of the water. The cleaning ladies tidied our bedrooms/dining/living areas routinely but could have benefited from a bit more initiative. We had to ask them to clean "forgotten areas" and request for shower floor mats, dining/living room tissue boxes, pool towels, and replacement towels or there would be none. Nonetheless, the trip was great overall for everyone. We look forward to a return trip.

“Paradise”

Beautiful island and beautiful villa. The staff were really friendly and the "in-house" cooking was delicious, all made with local fresh ingredients. Plently of space in the villa which was always kept really clean. The outside bathrooms were a real novelty! The village is really un-developed. No hassle at all from the usual traders on the beach and not a tourist shop in sight - brilliant. The snorkeling was amazing (even better than the Great Barrier Reef) and the staff at Reef Seen are so passionate about the work they have been doing with the coral, the fish and the turtles. The staff there are full of information and very friendly. Guided walks around the interior of the islands showed us all the wonderful fruit and vegetables that are grown on the island; no wonder so many of the locals have never left the island. We were a group of friends all in our mid fifties but would be great for groups of any age wanting a bit of peace and quiet. All in all a wonderful, memorable and relaxing holiday that we would certainly recomend to anyone wanting to get away from it all and have a bit of luxury at the same time.

“Total Relaxation”

Reviewed 11 Mar 2012

Our recent stay in Villa Semhadi was a chance to catch up with friends from Germany, our party which consisted of four adults and one 20 month child were greeted on arrival by Putra and as we walked to the villa through the gate into the gardens we were transported into a garden haven. The villa and gardens are beautifully kept and a delight to stay in. The staff were so helpful and nothing was a problem, from food for our toddler to our own Gin and Tonic at 5.30 which arrived every evening. I would suggest eating in at Villa Semhadi as the food is great, with a great variety, which can sometimes be a problem when staying in villas, but not at Villa Semhadi, the BBQ is great and eaten on the beachfront as the sun sets is pure indulgence and the making of memories. I would stay again tomorrow if given the chance. Once again thanks to Putra and all the staff, including Komang the boat captain for a truly great time.

“North Bali is great”

The whole staff of Villa Semadhi is very friendly and helpful and always with a smile. We specially enjoyed the excellent meals. We liked the house and also the openair bathroom was a new experience. The best of it was the large and very well kept garden with the pool and fish pond. The location directly on the beach was really perfect. The area is very good for diving and snorkling.

“comfortable and relaxing for our family break”

Reviewed 15 Nov 2011

Beautiful Villa and pool/grounds with lovely and helpful staff. Enjoyed the accessability of the meals available at the Villa. We really enjoyed trips organised to nearby areas for snorkelling and to the National Park, and well as a day trip to Java. Great area, not overrun with tourists at the time we were there, but a very long trip from the airport at Denpasar.

“Bali's best side”

Reviewed 5 Nov 2011

This was our fourth trip to Bali, the second with our entire family of five, and Villa Semadhi offered the best combination of relaxation, luxury, and activities we ever experienced. After a 4 hour car ride through the centre of Bali, we arrived at Villa Semadhi a bit worse for wear. As we walked into the compound, we were amazed at the lovely vista - the gardens and infinity edge pool, and the sparkling ocean edged by a black sand beach with views of the volcanos of Java beyond. Putra and his lovely staff took care of us extremely well. Putra helped us plan and arrange our days, which were a mix of activity and relaxation. This included hiring of a scooter, massage, snorkelling off the villa's boat, at the bio-reef to see the reef recovery project and its amazing progress first hand, diving with an excellent local dive shop, Kubuku. The diving with Putu at Mengangan Island was the highlight of the trip for my daughter and I, while my wife and other two children snorkelled. We enjoyed the cooking immensely and ate almost every meal at Semadh - so fresh and creatively cooked with a range of local spices. Putra even arranged a birthday cake and candles for my 14 year old daughter's birthday, with only a day's notice. It was a lovely touch. Our itinerary was for one week at Villa Semadhi, followed by a second week in Ubud. We found ourselves wishing we planned for two weeks at Semadhi as we truly were able to relax and unwind. Even my wife, who dragged her work with her, was able to handle e-mails in the morning given the excellent internet access, and then participate in the activities of the day, including exploring some of the local temples by scooter, or just reading a book in the bale. Permuteran, Mengangan and Villa Semadhi, along with the sister villa, Wilali, are literally on the "other side” of Bali, but this relatively less well known part of Bali is truly worth exploring. We will go back and will plan to stay longer next time.

Response from the owner Thank you for your wonderful review, we are happy you enjoyed your stay at Villa Semadhi so much, we look forward on seeing you and your family again. Best regards, Jane and Bernard

“Best relaxing holiday experience!”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2011

This July, we stayed at villa Semadhi with 2 families. We had done a lot of research on the internet last year and booked early as we wanted a care free holiday. I can say we are very happy with our choice. It was my third trip to Bali and this is by far the best place we have been. The villa and grounds are large and have a wonderfull atmosphere. Putra the manager is great at organizing whatever you need and also great fun. Jero is an excellent cook Each day we discussed what we wanted for dinner and all meals were little events. The staff is very warm and pleasant, You simply feel welcome and at home. Rooms are very clean and I very much enjoyed our huge outdoor bathroom. We used the boat several times to go snorkeling and fishing. The biorock project in the bay is amazing and excellent for snorkeling. There are nice spots on the beach there to relax and have a drink. On one late return by boat, we had a beautifull sunset. Magical to see the sun going down behind the vulcanoes on Java and watch the mountains from the sea. We will be back .

“It was the Pearl of all places in Bali”

This was my first but I hope not the last time at Villa Semadhi. I was there with a little group of friends three teenagers and 5 oldies 35-60. We all loved the place and the time there - very nice staff and a the garden is wonderful - My plans for the future is that next time I have friends visiting me in Bali we will go north to Villa Semadhi for some lovely days. Why not a Wedding Party... we make plans.

“Close to perfection”

Back in Holland and wearing the office suit and tie again  Can we compliment you with a wonderful villa, tasteful interior and last but not least friendly staff at Villa Semadhi! After a long journey we felt at home instantly. Putra managed well and fixed a few arrangements upon our request (think wines) and we stocked up the refrigerator in the outdoor kitchen. Kadek and Ketut are such friendly people that you want to take them home with you. The BBQ arranged for the surprise party celebrating a number of birthdays was priceless. The diners for 11 persons that the cook prepared outside the menu (i.e. barracuda / king prawns / sate bbq) were mouthwatering. We have tried and enjoyed the local restaurants Susu and Badini as well as facilities of adjacent resorts aneka and Matahari with a wonderful Spa. We have rented motor-scooters, enjoyed scuba diving with 'searovers' located at adi assri and went on a snorkeling and diving expedition to Menjangan Island. Hiked with the guide through the National Park and bought eggs at the local supermarket  Due to low humidity compared to the south and middle of Bali the temperature was high but comfortable which was an eye-opener for us and all in a beautiful setting with the green and steep mountains in the background and sea in front of you. A place to remember and to recommend to anyone who likes to relax and enjoy holiday deluxe style!
