Description from owner

Description

This lovely 4 bedroom, 3.5 bathroom house including casita, has just been redone with influences from India, Thailand and of course, Mexico. The owners have traveled the world to decorate this house with a colonial feel. The house also includes art and folk art by local San Miguel and other Mexican artists.

The house is located in Ojo de Agua, just south of Juarez Park and is a 15 minute, flat walk into town. You get the luxury of being close, but the serenity of being removed from the hustle and bustle of the historical district.

The house has a lovely garden with fountain and an interior light well with a second fountain that fills the entire house with its peaceful sound.

There are 3 bedrooms in the main house with 3 king beds. One of the kings can convert into 2 twins for flexibility. 2 bedrooms share a bathroom. The master suite has a king bed with a daybed. There is a large bathroom and superior closet space. You can catch some sun on the private balcony off of the master suite on one of the chaise lounges set up for you.

The kitchen is well equipped with all new cookware, dishes, flatware and glassware. There is a small breakfast table that seats 4 guests. You can enjoy the garden not only from the dining room, but also from the kitchen. So wherever you are, you feel like you are always part of the action.

There is a large living room that has 2 seating areas. You can take advantage of the TV with DVD player, while relaxing in one of the the ultra suede chairs or you can sit on one of the sofas on the other side of the room and enjoy a fire in the gas fireplace or cocktails before dinner. There are french doors that lead to the patio, where you can enjoy the serenity of the fountain and the garden.

The casita has its own small patio area and fountain plus separate bath. There is one Queen bed and a Queen size sleeper sofa on the upstairs loft. This is a great option for 2 families, because it adds more space with it's own seating area equipped with fireplace, TV with DVD and CD player.

This house has all of the amenities and comforts of home with the best of the best. There is Vonage phone that you can use to call the states for free and receive calls from a US area code. There is also high-speed internet, if you want to bring down your computer and still be connected to reality.

The housekeeper/cook who comes 6 days a week, can prepare 1-2 meals a day, if you desire. No pets, no smoking and no children under 10 years of age, please.

We do not rent to adult groups under the age of 26 and prefer no children under the age of 10.

Founded in 1541, San Miguel de Allende with its spires and cupolas, centuries-old churches, steep cobblestone streets and stuccoed walls painted in bright tones of terra-cotta and sienna has a very old-world flavor. The March 7, 2005, issue of New York Magazine described this 16th century city as "the closest thing Mexico has to Florence."

Since 1947, when it was established as an art colony, the town has attracted many foreign artists as well as fine Mexican artists. Today, the town of approximately 75,000 people is home to at least 7,000 to 10,000 foreigners from Canada, the United States and Europe. In addition, it is a major tourist destination with Travel and Leisure Magazine listing it as number four in the top ten destinations in Mexico, Central, and South America in its 2009 World's Best Awards.

On May 22, 2005, The New York Times reported that "Americas searching for vacation homes are increasingly buying up property in the old section of town. But all this investment has not altered the bones of the place: the 300 year-old architecture from Spain, the heavy, carved wooden doors along narrow sidewalks, the explosion of bougainvillea over compound walls surrounding meticulous courtyards. Unlike Cancun or Acapulco, where American fast food joints and discos rule, San Miguel de Allende still feels like Mexico."

The most recent Conde Nast Traveler Reader's Choice Awards for 2008 ranked San Miguel as the number five city in the Americas as a destination which included Canada, Latin and South America.

Getting to San Miguel

San Miguel is approximately a one hour and 20 minute drive from the Leon, Mexico Airport. We can arrange transportation for you. This international airport is served by Mexicana Airlines with flights from Chicago and Los Angeles, American Airlines with flights from Dallas and Continental with flights from Houston. There are also numerous flights from Mexico City and other cities within Mexico. The colonial city of Queretaro is an hour away and has a newly expanded airport. Continental has just started service there from Houston and American should follow suit in the near future.

Getting around

You can easily walk into town and to restaurants and shopping. Local taxis are available and are very reasonable. I recommend taking a taxi home at night after dark. My driver Carlos Sanchez can take you out to the wineries, the pyramids, to Atotonilco plus day trips to Guanajuato or Queretaro

Interaction with guest

My local agent will arrange for transportation and will have someone there to greet you upon our arrival. My house manager is available 24 hours if there is an issues with water, electricity, internet or cable TV. I have a housekeeper who is there every day except for Sunday and a gardener who is there 2.5 days a week. Francisca will cook breakfast and lunch. She will also cook dinner you and leave it in the refrigerator before she leaves or will come back in the evening for a small hourly charge.
