“Luxury Self Catering accommadation”

Reviewed 21 Nov 2013

We have stayed at Foxes Reach twice. We find the house is a good base, for our trips into The Forest of Dean and countless other places of interest. Each night after our daily adventures we would unwind in the hot tub and gaze at the stars...fantastic. We are planning another trip next year to this lovely house.

“Very nice indeed”

Reviewed 21 Nov 2013

Had a lovely time at this cottage. Hot tub was of course as amazing as you would expect! Owners were friendly and helpful. Garden was very secure for the dogs. Location was excellent and whilst there were neighbours we rarely saw anyone - which we liked. We were surprised to get home from an outing once to find the owner inside the property carrying out maintenence without telling us and he also turned up un-announced twice, which we werent really keen for. Was generally tidy and the little extra's were very nice. The vodka was lovely! Thanks. Would recommend to others but would not return.

Response from the owner Thanks for taking the time to write such a nice review. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and all the many extras we provide. We are particularly glad that you enjoyed the hot tub which like the whole house we maintain to a very high standard. It is true that we came round during your stay but not altogether fair to say this was unannounced. On your arrival day( Saturday) we had discovered that the cooker hood had become faulty and this meant that part of the kitchen ceiling lighting was also faulty. We explained to you on arrival that we had called the electrician and he would be there accompanied by us as soon as possible -but at that stage no fixed appointment had been made. He did agree to come very speedily and fitted us in at such short notice that we were not able to tell you in advance, however as a result you had a very short period of time with this unfortunate fault. Neither he nor we went further into the cottage than the hall and kitchen and none of your things were touched . Sorry if this wasnt acceptable to you, it was a pity you didnt tell us that you would have preferred to be left undisturbed and that the fault could wait. We are very disappointed with your comment as we had felt pleased to have arranged such a fast professional repair for you. Secondly, it cannot be negotiable that the hot tub does have to be serviced on a daily basis . This is so important to your health and well being. It is absolutely essential that we do attend to it and honestly you would not want to have it any other way as the risks to your health could be high. To do this we just need to be on site for about 10 minutes each day but we do not enter the cottage at any time. We usually come in the middle part of the day when often there is no one home and therefore minimum disturbance. Please dont stay anywhere that doesnt do this properly- or at least dont ever go in a tub that isnt well managed!

“Relaxing Stay at Foxes Reach”

Reviewed 26 Jul 2013

Had a very nice welcome from Mr Wilton, who then showed us around the cottage etc. Foxes Reach is a homely, very clean and modern cottage, with a very pretty garden. Great location, which is just a couple of miles away from abbey Mill, Tintern etc. Hot Tub in the garden, was used regularly!

“beautiful cottage to stay”

Reviewed 21 Apr 2013

Five of us plus my dog stayed 4 nights to walk Wye Valley walk, April 15th-19th The cottage is lovely, beautifully decorated. After walking all day it was great to relax in the hot tub! We had a very warm welcome with wine, blackcurrant vodka and flowers.

“A perfect week in a perfect cottage”

Reviewed 1 Dec 2012

We couldn`t find a single fault with this cottage. Everything you would need is provided, a real home from home. Location is perfect if you want to get away from it all but not too far away. The owners couldn`t be more helpful if you need them. Kids loved the hot tub it was constantly in use throughout the whole week. Would definetly recommend to anyone. 5 stars from us without a doubt

“Fantastic and thoroughly relaxing cottage”

Reviewed 3 Oct 2012

Excellent, excellent, excellent! Chosen for our honeymoon retreat, we were not disappointed. We particularly liked the personal touches - welcoming drinks, fresh flowers in almost every room and a small card re our recent marriage (the card was much appreciated, especially as the owners were out of the country on their own holiday upon our arrival). The cottage contains everything you could possible need to make your stay relaxing and enjoyable. The weather during our stay was not brilliant, but sat inside such a cosy cottage with a real fire glowing via the wood burning stove - who cares! The rain couldn't even dampen our spirits whilst sat in the lovely hot tub and having a glass of bubbly! The location of the cottage provided a good base for all of the things we wanted to see and do in the Wye Valley & surrounding area, including a trip over the 'border' to Bristol and Weston-super-Mare. There is a 24 hour Tesco's in Chepstow (about 10-15 mins drive away) for all your food and drink wants. So overall, a truly great place to stay to relax and unwind in peaceful and very quiet surroundings. We would definitely book again and would recommend to our family and friends. What more can we say!

“A beautiful peaceful cottage!”

We had a wonderful time at Foxes Reach. Fiona and Malcolm have thought of everything to make the cottage as welcoming and comfortable as possible. It was so peaceful and we came back thoroughly rested!

“Homely cottage in lovely area”

Reviewed 23 Jul 2012

We received a warm welcome when we arrived. Found the cottage easliy even though it is quite rural, via the very good directions in the pre-arrival info. Cottage is cosy and lovely, the peace and quiet is priceless. The cottage has everything you could want, the owners have thought very hard about their guest's experience. Even though the weather wasnt very kind to us during out stay, it didnt stop us exploring the area. Lots to do and see. The hot tub was lovely to unwind at the end of the day. Loved the cottage so much, we've booked to come again!

“Marvellous Monmouth”

Reviewed 1 Jul 2012

The cottage was excellent and had all amenities. Particularly enjoyed hot tub which after walking was lovely for a soothing soak. Fantastic countryside and loads of beautiful walks and easy to get to Tintern, Monmouth and Chepstow as well as the Forest of Dean. A lot of little extras were left which we thoroughly enjoyed.

“A perfect weekend...”

Reviewed 21 Apr 2012

Had a fantastic stay here recently. The cottage is charming. The hot tub and traditional wood burner provide ingredients for an idyllic romantic or simply relaxing evening. Great location as well, as it's a very short distance from Tintern abbey. We were welcomed with a lovely bottle of wine and home made blackcurrant vodka. We also liked that the kitchen was well enough equipped for us to be able to cook our own dinners and make the most of spending time in such a beautiful cottage. Would recommend this as a place to stay to anyone. The only bad thing was not being able to check in until 4pm, as we were only staying for two nights and had to be ready to check out by 10am on the last day. Would have been great if we had been able to check in slightly earlier. Hoping to return again soon and hopefully for a longer stay.

Response from the owner Delighted you enjoyed your stay so much that we are already in touch about a return visit. Our check in/check out times are very much in line with the industry standard and are set because it takes a lot of time to clean , refresh and present and entire cottage to the high standards we maintain, plus we must empty refill and reheat the hot tub for you and we look after the garden and cut grass etc. We are up to 4 people flat out all day so cant go faster! Next time you come we suggest that you arrive in the locality earlier in the day and enjoy a pub lunch and some sightseeing before you come to us. You dont have to be with us right at 4, later after you have had a fun afternoon is fine. We look forward to welcoming you back!
