Description
Oreti River House offers boutique accommodation in Lumsden, situated in the lower part of South Island of New Zealand. The self contained house combines old charm with modern amenities in a quiet secluded location, close to town amenities. It is a perfect base for trout fishing in the Oreti River, Mataura River, Waikaia River, Nevis River and many others.
It is also very agreeable holiday accommodation for families or friends who are travelling in Southland and interested in the many sporting, sightseeing and adventure pursuits offered in this beautiful part of New Zealand. The Oreti River is a 2 minute drive or a 15 minute walk from the house. As a river on a glacial stream-bed, it winds and braids through wide open areas of colourful pebbles. The Oreti is famous for its aqua blue, crystal clear water - home to rising trout, ducks and geese. The river is home to the endangered Black Billed gull which can be regularly seen flying over the house.
Oreti River House is surrounded by mature hedges, wide green lawns and an extensive landscaped garden. The garden is quiet and restful.
Lumsden forms part of the spectacular new cycle trail called "The Around the Mountains Rail Trail" which winds through majestic mountains and along clear streams. The trail follows old railway easements so it offers low grades through some of New Zealand's most beautiful scenery. Oreti River House offers very comfortable accommodation to both cycling, golf, touring and fishing enthusiasts.

“Comfortable quiet country house”
We had a lovely stay at Oreti House. It is well situated in the pretty little town of Lumsden which has basic shops and a couple of cafes. The house is extremely well appointed with comfortable beds, and lounges, a well equipped kitchen and BBQ. Sun or air con warmed. An amazingly big and well cared for garden, good for croquet and boules as well as evenings by the fire pit. We had a thoroughly lovely time.

“Trout fishermans home away from home”
We were a group of 4 adults staying at Oreti River House for the purpose of trout fishing in the area. The house was immaculate with very superior fixtures, fittings and furnishings. The location was also close enough for a day trip to Invercargill and Gore where there are plenty of things to do and see. Would highly recommend and we will stay there again.

We had great time staying at Oreti River House. The house is comfortable, clean and warm and surrounded by beautiful private gardens. Short driving distance to Queenstown and surrounding towns. We can't wait to come back soon!

“Wonderful House with Magnificent Gardens”
My wife and I stayed at Oreti River House on our latest visit to the South Island of New Zealand. We had many adventures touring the local region and fishing the local rivers and streams for brown and ocean trout. The house provided a perfect base to return to each evening. The beds are very comfortable, the gas fireplace warms the entire house and the accommodation and fixtures are of the highest standard. The surrounding garden is magnificent and highlights the owners commitment to making Oreti House a true 5 star property. We are already looking forward to returning to Oreti River House some time in the not too distant future.

“Wonderful accommodation, clean, tidy, beautiful grounds and a lovely country feeling but within close driving to a great”
Enjoyed the accommodation, neat and tidy and grounds gorgeous and well maintained. Conveniently located to all forms of recreational activities. Quality golf courses nearby and fishing also a must. The owners obviously take a great deal of pride in Oreti House and are very concerned to ensure that the accommodation is first class with all the usual facilities. The added bonus is proximity to Queenstown with all of its attractions and the airport. In all would have no hesitation in recommending Oreti House to anyone seeking clean and comfortable accommodation with all the extras.
